  • Patent number: 6817266
Abstract: Several embodiments of a stiff, metallic hub for an energy storage devices are disclosed in the present invention. The stiff hub produces a critical velocity that is significantly greater than the design operating speed of the flywheel assembly so that resonant frequency is never reached during normal operation of the energy storage device's flywheel assembly. The stiff hub comprises a central core section that maintains a tight interference fit with the rotating shaft; an outer rim section that maintains a tight interference with the high-strength, low-density composite fiber rim, in which energy primarily is stored; and a web section that is situated therebetween, extending radially from the rotary shaft. At high operating speeds, the outer rim of the hub expands radially commensurate with expansion of the composite fiber rim so that enough of the outer rim remains in tight interference fit with the composite fiber rim to substantially minimize vibrations.

  • Patent number: 6816279
Abstract: A network system includes a plurality of printers and a digital copying machine interconnected through a data transmission line, detects a free space in an image memory of each printer, adds a user identification code to image data of a document read in an image reading section of the digital copying machine, and then sends the image data to a printer with the image memory having a sufficient free space so as to store the image data. With this structure, even if the digital copying machine does not have an image memory, it is possible to store the image data subjected to an image formation within the network and omit an image reading process when performing an image formation according to the same image data later. Moreover, with this structure, various processing can be executed on the image data by effectively using the functions of the respective apparatuses.

  • Patent number: 6747378
Abstract: In one aspect of the present invention discloses a dual-stiffness damping system for an evacuated energy storage system, the damping system comprising one or more flexible dampers and a plurality of more rigid bumpers, and a method of damping an evacuated energy storage system using dual-stiffness damping. Indeed, under normal operating conditions, a flexible damper, having a stiffness of about 500 lb/in to about 4000 lb/in, minimizes the rigid body critical speed of the rotor assembly of the energy storage system, allowing relative displacement between the stator assembly and rotor assembly but preventing the assemblies from physically contacting each other. Under more extreme external loading conditions, e.g., during an earthquake, the plurality of more rigid bumpers, having a stiffness of about 50,000 to 250,000 lb/in, engages the outer race of the bearing assembly to arrest further relative displacement substantially.

  • Patent number: 6618043
Abstract: A precharge circuit is composed of (a) a reference signal input section, to which at least one precharge reference potential is inputted, (b) a control signal input section, to which at least one control signal is inputted, (c) a plurality of signal delay sections for sequentially delaying an output of the control signal input section, and (d) a reference signal switching section for switching, in accordance with outputs of the signal delay sections, between a state of outputting the precharge reference potential of the reference signal input section to each of the data signal lines and a state of non-outputting the same thereto. With this arrangement, the precharge control signal is sequentially delayed within the precharge circuit by the delay circuits composed of inverter circuits or the like, so that timings at which the precharge reference potential is written in the data signal lines are dispersed.

  • Patent number: 6600892
Abstract: A developing device includes a developing roller and a toner charging roller. The toner charging roller has (a) a metallic layer which induces its electrons by receiving light irradiation, and (b) an ultraviolet irradiater which irradiates ultraviolet to the metallic layer. The toner charging roller gives the electrons to toner, so that the toner on the developing roller is charged. There is a space between the toner charging roller and the developing roller, and a grid electrode which controls a flow of the electrons is provided in the space. Thus, mechanical/thermal load given to the toner or the toner charging roller can be reduced, so that it is possible to prevent deterioration of toner and the device.
