  • Patent number: 4824438
Abstract: Green briquettes made from particulate carbonaceous material and lignosulfonate as a binder are cured in an oven in the presence of circulating gases containing a high percentage of oxygen and superheated steam. The sulfur derived from the binder is oxidized and then hydrolyzed (exothermic reactions) at the curing temperature with formation of sulfuric acid, which is dissociated (endothermic reaction) in the case of a temperature rise. The reactions provide a means for thermal balance within the curing oven.

  • Patent number: 4794096
Abstract: The present invention provides a catalyst system for the polymerization and copolymerization of olefins with the system comprising a chiral, stereorigid hafnium metallocene catalyst in combination with an aluminum compound. The aluminum compound is preferably an alumoxane and may be a mixture of alumoxane and trimethyl aluminum. It was discovered that this mixture causes a transformation of the catalyst over time. The catalyst system may also include a solvent to increase the solubility of the metallocene catalyst. It was discovered that these catalyst systems produce useful polymer products with molecular weights greater than 10,000.

  • Patent number: 4774379
Abstract: A process for the alkylation of aromatic compounds employing silicalite of extremely low sodium content. A feedstock containing an aromatic substrate such as benzene is supplied along with an alkylating agent such as ethylene to a reaction zone containing a silicalite alkylation catalyst having a sodium content of less than 100 ppm Na.sub.2 O. Steam may be cofed to the reaction zone in an amount of at least 1 wt. % based upon the aromatic substrate.
