  • Patent number: 4697693
Abstract: A conveying system useful for synchronous conveying of articles along a straight line path between a driving and driven pulley. Selected teeth of a synchronous belt are modified to provide passages between a backing and a top land. Each modified tooth is formed with a reduced addendum. A tip plate is bolted to the top land of the modified teeth so that the height of the teeth become compatible with the standard size teeth of the belt. The tip plate bolts are also used to fasten transporting devices to the backing of the belt at the locations of the nonstandard teeth.

  • Patent number: 4690853
Abstract: A scarfing method and apparatus are disclosed for making a longitudinally and transversely contoured batt on a moving fibrous web. The apparatus comprises a scarfing roll disposed on one side of a foraminous belt and a contouring roll, having a nonuniform surface, disposed on the opposite side of the belt. As the contouring roll is rotated, it raises the belt and the fibrous web towards the scarfing roll, according to the shape of the nonuniform surface. Hence, a contour is provided in the direction of movement of the web. The transverse contour can be provided by the shape of the scarfing roll itself.

  • Patent number: 4650532
Abstract: A method of forming folded hems about the periphery of openings in a moving fabric web includes inserting a mandrel having radially expandable and contractible folding means into the openings to turn out of the web a peripheral portion of the fabric which is then folded back by radial expansion of the folding means. The folding means is radially contracted for entry and withdrawal of the mandrel. Apparatus for carrying out the method may comprise a rotating drum within which a plurality of mandrels is mounted to orbit with the drum. A continuous web of fabric having openings therein is carried by the drum and positioning means reciprocatingly insert and withdraw the mandrel through the fabric openings. Control means radially expand and contract the folding means synchronously with the positioning means.

  • Patent number: 4617082
Abstract: Continuous strips of a first material, e.g., elastic strips, are continuously supplied to flexible strip supports in a supply zone while the strip supports are in a linear configuration. The strip supports are carried on respective transfer members which are mounted on a rotatable support so that individual transfer members follow a closed (orbital) path upon rotation of the support. The continuous strips are cut into discrete strips adhered to respective flexible strip supports whose configuration, and that of the discrete strips adhered thereto, is then changed to a desired curvilinear configuration. The transfer members are then brought into transfer contact in a transfer zone with a moving web of second material, which may comprise the backing sheet of a disposable diaper construction, and the curvilinear strips are transferred to the web.
