Abstract: A portable shade unit particularly adapted for ready assembly into a free standing configuration may be assembled from a kit of prepackaged components. These components include a weightable base formed with an inner space for ballast such as water or sand. On a top wall of the base are sets of clips to hold an adjustable standard, a tiltable knuckle connector, and a commercially available hand-held umbrella such as a golf umbrella. For assembly a lower end of an outer tube of the standard is fitted in a bushing on the base. An upper end of an inner member of the standard then is placed into a lower sleeve of the knuckle connector. Lastly, a handle end of the umbrella is fitted into an upper sleeve of the connector. A canopy of the umbrella then may be opened to provide shade or other protection from weather as required. Further, an angular position of the umbrella may be adjusted by releasing a pivot connection of the knuckle connector.
Abstract: A system particularly adapted for cleaning ink residue from cells forming part of an outer surface of a ceramic inking roll of a printing press roller assembly includes an ultrasonic tank unit. Seated on an top open end of the tank unit is a drive mechanism comprising a set of spaced apart wheels operatively connected to a motor by a belt. As fitted over the wheels, the belt engages one end of a shaft of the ink roller assembly. An opposite end of the shaft then is held by a set of wheels of an idle mechanism also seated on the tank unit top end. For use the tank unit is filled with a cleaning solution so that about a bottom one-third of the roll outer surface submerges in the solution, and the shaft and any included bearings or gears on the shaft remain free from contact with the solution. As the motor drives the belt to slowly turn the roll through the cleaning solution, sonic energy from a generator in the tank unit forces solution into the roll cells to incrementally scrub out the imbedded ink residue.
Abstract: The Christian sacrament of communion, particularly in Protestant churches, most often includes the service of wine or the like in small, individual disposable cups. These cups, selectively packaged in cartons, are transferred to trays for filling and subsequent service. To facilitate this transfer each carton includes a stack of spaced apart cup dividers and a top shipping divider. Each divider has a set of selectively arranged openings. Positioned over each cup divider opening is an open end of an inverted cup. Cups on lower cup dividers extend upward through the openings in the above divider. For cup transfer sides panels and a top panel of the carton are folded away. After removal of the shipping divider, an insert of a communion tray is placed up-side-down over the cups on the top cup divider so that the cups fit into holes in the tray insert. Next, a base of the tray is fitted over the insert to reform the tray. The tray, cups, and divider then are lifted from the divider stack and inverted.
Abstract: A guard, particularly adapted to protect a blade of a sailboat rudder from a propeller of an outboard motor mounted on a stern of the boat, includes a mounting plate. The mounting plate has an inner end prepared for ready attachment to a side of a fin of the motor located above the propeller. As attached, the plate then extends laterally toward the rudder to terminate a selective distance beyond outer end tips of blades of the propeller. On an outer end of the mounting plate is a curved protector tube having forward and rear end curved sections which extend respectively toward and away from the boat stern and back toward the motor. During travel of the boat by operation of the motor, the boat is steered by movement of the rudder which selectively positions the rudder blade to effect changes in directions. When rotational movement of the rudder in the direction of the motor is excess, the rudder blade engages the guard protector tube.
Abstract: A modular column planter, particularly adapted for household use, comprises a lower, middle and upper container. Each container has a bottom connecting with a sidewall that extends upwardly to define a top opening. On the lower container bottom is a post having a slotted, top retaining cup. Positioned about an opening in a bottom of the middle and upper container is an upright, hollow column and a lower column extension. A top edge of the middle container column is notched while a bottom edge of the upper container lower column extension is slotted. The planter is formed by fitting respectively the bottom of the middle and upper container in the top opening of the middle and upper container. As located, the middle container column extension fits into the lower container retaining cup and the upper container column extension fits into the middle container column upper end. These now joined columns form a watering tube.
Abstract: A disposable-type flashlight comprises a core piece having recessed sidewalls to hold a pair of oppositely positioned batteries. These batteries and core then fit inside of a flexible, hollow case. The flashlight further includes a switch having a pair of flexible arms connected by a base segment that fits against a rear end of the core piece. A front end of each switch arm locates next to a base terminal portion of a bulb having an inner terminal end held in an opening in a front end of the core piece. The switch base segment engages a rear terminal end of one battery while an oppositely charged rear terminal end of the other battery engages a contact flange of a connector strip. This strip extends through an inner space of the core piece to engage the bulb inner terminal end. A front contact member having a flexible web connects front terminal ends of the battery with an opening in the web holding a front lens portion of the bulb.
Abstract: A table unit particularly adapted for use in a correctional environment includes a base prepared to be filled with ballast. The base has a hollow core member that fits into an inner space of an outer shell member. A sidewall of the core member is spaced inward from a sidewall of the shell member to form a first ballast holding space therebetween. An inner space of the core member defines a second ballast holding space. For use the first holding space or both ballast holding spaces first are filled with ballast such as sand or gravel. Then, a table top is attached to an upper end of the outer shell member to form a completed work table unit. Ballast in the first holding space reinforces the sidewall of the outer shell member while weight of the ballast inhibits unauthorized movement or upsetting of the unit.
