Abstract: Cutting members for razors are provided that have been subjected to a localized heat-treating process, e.g., application of laser energy. In some cases, the cutting members include a bent portion, and the localized heat-treating process is used to enhance ductility and thereby facilitate formation of the bent portion.

Abstract: Battery operated appliances are provided. Some appliances include a housing defining a chamber having an interior wall, electronics within the chamber, a battery cover, and a closing system including (a) a first electrically conductive member secured to the battery cover, and (b) a second electrically conductive member secured to the interior wall of the housing and configured to engage the first electrically conductive member and thereby mechanically secure the battery cover to the housing while also establishing electrical contact between the first and second electrically conductive members.

Abstract: A shaving blade unit having a housing with a top surface, a bottom surface, a front edge, a rear edge and a pair of side edges extending between the front edge and the rear edge. The housing has a pair of apertures between the front edge and the rear edge. The pair of apertures extend through the housing from the top surface to the bottom surface. One or more shaving blades are disposed between the front edge and the rear edge. The one or more shaving blades each have a cutting edge. A clip has a pair of legs that extend through the pair of apertures. Each leg is bent about at least a portion of the bottom surface of the housing securing the clip to the housing and retaining the blades on the housing.

Abstract: A molding process for forming a wet shaving razor including the step of placing one or more of the blades into a first mold cavity. A first generally rigid polymer is injected into the first mold cavity to form a housing and to secure the blades. A second generally rigid polymer is injected into a second mold cavity to form a handle that is adjacent to and spaced apart from the housing of the first mold cavity. A generally flexible polymer is injected into a third mold cavity to interconnect the housing and the handle, wherein the generally flexible polymer forms a gripping portion on the handle and a resilient skin contacting element between the housing and the handle.
Abstract: A hair removal kit having a handle, a cover removably engagable to the handle, and a cartridge removably engagable to the handle. The cartridge has at least one blade. A removable dispensing unit is disposed within the handle. The dispensing unit has a pump, an applicator in liquid communication with the pump, and a reservoir having a first position and a second position. The reservoir is in liquid communication with the pump in the second position, but not in liquid communication with the pump in the first position.

Abstract: A shaving blade assembly having a blade unit with at least one blade and a guard bar positioned in front of the blade. A cantilever guard is positioned in front of the blade unit defining a gap between the guard bar and the cantilever guard. The cantilever guard has a plurality of spaced apart fingers extending transverse to the blade. The fingers have a wedge shaped cross section in a direction transverse to the blades and are movable relative to the guard bar between a first position and a second position during a shaving stroke.
Abstract: A button assembly for displaying an illuminated symbol has a locking ring and a solid light guide positioned within and spaced apart from the locking ring. The light guide has a top surface for displaying an illuminated symbol and a bottom surface with a light receiving member having a refracting surface with a first lens member for receiving and directing light to the top surface of the light guide. A resilient sealing member interconnects the locking ring and the light guide. The resilient sealing member is mounted on the locking ring and interconnects the locking ring and the light guide. The sealing member has an unsupported portion that facilitates movement of the light guide relative to the locking ring.

Abstract: A shaving cartridge has a housing with at least one blade having a blade edge. The housing has a first guard in front of the blade with a plurality of projections defining a plurality of open slots extending generally transverse to the blade edge. The open slots have a width of about 0.20 mm to about 0.49 mm and a pitch of about 0.40 mm to about 0.85 mm for allowing the free passage of hair during shaving.
Abstract: A safety razor includes a handle and a blade unit having at least one blade. The blade unit is connected to the handle for a pivotal movement relative thereto. One of the handle and the blade unit has a concave portion formed on its surface. A relative movement transfer member is formed between the handle and the blade unit for transferring a relative movement between the handle and the blade unit caused by the pivotal movement. A return force generating member is formed in the concave portion for generating a return force for the blade unit in response to the relative movement transfer member. The return force generating member includes a holding structure for holding a part of the relative movement transfer member, and an elastic member connected to the holding structure for generating the return force in response to the relative movement transfer member.

Abstract: A safety razor having a blade unit has at least one blade and a handle casing. A pivotal connection structure is disposed between the blade unit and the handle casing. A first member is connected to the blade unit and a second member is connected to the handle casing. A joint member connects the first member and the second member and facilitates movement of the first member relative to the second member about a hinge axis that is substantially perpendicular to the at least one blade.
