  • Patent number: 4395847
Abstract: A window construction (20) includes a support frame (22) having a front channel member (52) for receiving a slidable window sash (26), and a rear channel (56) for receiving a fixed window sash (24). Front and rear channels (54) and (56) are divided by a central flange (52). Weatherstrip means (136) are mounted on sashes (24) and (26) to project transversely outwardly from the sashes to press against the adjacent face of support frame central flange (52) and against an adjacent surface of the opposite sash to thereby form an unbroken seal around the entire perimeter of each sash. The support frame 22 also includes a compound shaped mounting flange (32) having a diagonal section (76) extending outwardly and diagonally forwardly from front channel (54), and a perimeter section (78) extending outwardly from the outer edge of the diagonal section (76) to lie in a plane forwardly offset from and substantially parallel to the plane defined by sashes (24) and (26).

  • Patent number: 4392236
Abstract: Identification of migratory animals, such as adult fish and the like, by means of implanted coded tags, with tag coding involving one or more higher atomic numbered chemical elements in stable, solid form (elements with atomic numbers 40-42, 44-53, 55-60 and 62-83), the elements being identified in the live animal by selective X-ray irradiation of the implanted tag and spectral analysis of the fluorescent X-ray radiation emitted by the tag. Rapid analysis of the fluorescent X-ray radiation to identify the coding element(s) with a high level of confidence is obtained by use of high intensity irradiation and controlled masking to essentially confine the irradiation to only the tag and the animal tissue immediately surrounding the tag and thereby improve the signal-to-noise ratio of the fluorescent X-ray radiation emitted by the coding element(s).

  • Patent number: 4390141
Abstract: A strap winding mechanism for the winding of truck load straps and the like, in the form of an L-shaped frame having first and second legs in right angle relation with the first leg being demountably clamped in an upright position to any selected stake hole of a conventional flat bed truck so that the second leg extends horizontally from the truck bed. Intermediate the ends of the second leg, a strap reel handle and strap reel assembly are journaled for relative engagement during the winding operation.A strap guide is arranged at the outboard end of the second leg for guiding the strap onto the reel. The strap reel handle and strap reel assembly may be interchanged in position or removed, and the strap guide may be attached to extend from either side of the second leg or completely removed, for ease of use and convenient storage.

  • Patent number: 4388774
Abstract: A fishing system for a recreational, commercial or pleasure type boat (B) includes an inner pair of fishing poles (10) mounted near the gunwales (GW) of boat (B) to position inner fishing lines (12) closely adjacent the sides of boat (B). A rearwardly extending pair of fishing poles (14) are carried by holders (16) mounted on the stern of boat (B) to position lines (18) laterally inwardly of lines (12). An outer pair of fishing poles (20) are mounted on the outward end portions of elongate booms (38) to position outer lines (24) at a location a relatively large distance laterally outwardly from lines (12). Booms (38) are disposed transversely to the length of boat (B) and are supported by antifriction support assemblies (40) which support booms (38) for extensional travel outwardly from one side of boat (B) and for retractional travel towards the opposite side of boat (B).

  • Patent number: 4387543
Abstract: An anchor bracket (10) for supporting the lower end of a vertical column (12) spaced slightly above a concrete bed (14) includes an upper, channel-shaped section (16) for receiving the lower end of column (12). Anchor bracket (10) also includes an elongate, upright, post section (18) extending downwardly from channel section (16) into concrete (14). A flat, relatively thin necked-down portion (34) is formed intermediate the ends of post section (18) to serve as a reaction member reacting against concrete (14) to thereby prevent anchor bracket (10) from rotating about or moving longitudinally along the length of post section (18).

  • Patent number: 4387546
Abstract: A structural column (10) for use in the assembly of a framework (12) for a building (14) includes an outer member (16) constructed from a plurality of very thin sheets of wood material laminated together, and an inner member (18) also constructed from a plurality of very thin sheets of wooden material laminated together. Outer member (16) is composed of two substantially identical, preformed halves (20) bonded together along their longitudinal marginal shoulder portions (22) to form a closed cross-sectional shape. Correspondingly inner member 18 is constructed from two substantially identical, preformed halves 30 bonded together along their longitudinal marginal shoulder portions (31) to form a closed cross-sectional shape snugly fitting within the hollow interior of outer member (16).

  • Patent number: 4381038
Abstract: A bit connectible from the lower end of a rotatably powered drill stem for enlarging a preformed pilot hole includes a cutter carrier frame on which are mounted a plurality of roller cutters having peripheral cutting edges which sweep concentric circles upon rotation of the raise drilling bit. The circles swept by the cutters collectively define a generally dome-shaped cutting profile of constantly changing curvature which forms a segment of a spiral curve so that as the cutting profile extends radially outwardly from the drill stem, its curvature progressively decreases. The rotating cutter carrier frame structure drives a flywheel assembly at increased speed through the intermediacy of a step-up drive system composed of two planetary gear drives coupled in tandem.
