  • Patent number: 4069354
Abstract: This disclosure depicts a novel method for dispensing a cement onto the seal land of a color CRT funnel. In particular, this method is intended for dispensing cement onto a funnel seal land which defines a convex curved plane, at least a curved segment of the seal land lying on a predetermined radius. The method comprises holding the funnel in a neck-down position, providing a substantially stationary cement dispensing nozzle and, in order to dispense cement on at least the segment of the curved seal land, swinging the funnel about the origin of the radius of the seal land segment such that the seal land segment passes under the cement dispensing nozzle at a substantially constant predetermined distance beneath the nozzle and in a substantially horizontal attitude. Apparatus is disclosed for implementing the described method.

  • Patent number: 4035524
Abstract: This disclosure depicts a process for forming on an inner viewing surface of a color cathode ray tube having a flangeless faceplate a coating of an aqueous slurry composed of a photosensitized organic binder and a suspension of phosphor particles. The process comprises applying an aqueous pre-wet to the inner surface of the faceplate and, while the surface is still wet, applying a phosphor slurry to the pre-wetted inner surface of the faceplate; and suffusing the slurry across the surface to form a coating thereof. As a result of the pre-wetting of the faceplate surface, the occurrence of radially oriented non-coated areas on the surface is eliminated and the phosphor sedimentation rate is enhanced.

Abstract: This disclosure depicts a means for energizing a color television cathode ray tube during manufacture. In particular, this means for energizing a color television picture tube is for use with a tube having an envelope containing an electron gun assembly and a base attached to a neck of the envelope. The base has electrically conductive pins connected to elements of the electron gun assembly wherein a first of the pins on the base carries a relatively high focus potential of many kilovolts and a second of the pins carries a substantially higher main focus lens potential. The means for energizing the tube during the manufacture comprises a socket for coupling with the base on the tube wherein the socket has a lead attached to a source of high potential, the lead being characterized by having a switch. The switch has an electrically nonconductive casing filled with a dielectric fluid.

  • Patent number: 4028726
Abstract: A system for enlarging the image on the screen of a cathode ray picture tube by increasing the deflection of the electron beam. Accompanying deterioration in contrast and brightness is reduced by blanking the overscan portions of the raster. In addition, contrast and color level controls are automatically adjusted to match the expanded image to the normal image. The blanking for both the horizontal and vertical deflection is handled by a common circuit.

  • Patent number: 4021850
Abstract: This disclosure depicts a novel system for implosion protecting a color television picture tube having a faceplate with a rearwardly extending side surface and a mating funnel. The system is illustrated as comprising, in part, a high tensile strength frame which surrounds and overlies at least a portion of the side surface of the faceplate and which is cemented to the faceplate. The system further comprises a crack retarder which is located about the circumference of the tube, but which is spaced axially rearwardly from the frame. The system assists in retaining in position the shards of a shattered faceplate and also assists in retarding the propagation of cracks in the tube, thereby providing for a relatively gradual buildup of pressure in the tube.

  • Patent number: 4016364
Abstract: This disclosure depicts a novel edgebond system for implosion protecting a color television picture tube having a flangeless faceplate. The edgebond system is illustrated as comprising in its most general sense a high tensile strength metal contoured frame, preferably having a substantially constant depth around the faceplate, which is cemented to and binds up the edge surface of the faceplate, i.e., the thickness dimension of the faceplate. The system assists in retaining in position the shards of a shattered faceplate and thereby provides for a relatively gradual buildup of pressure in the tube.

Abstract: This disclosure depicts a novel method of etching a shadow mask for a color television picture tube and in particular to a method of etching the steel substrate layer of a two layer shadow mask, wherein the first layer has been previously etched, and of reclaiming the used etchant. Ferric sulphate is used to etch the steel substrate layer, resulting in the generation of ferrous sulphate, a by-product of the chemical reaction of the ferric sulphate etchant and the steel substrate. The used etchant is reclaimed by reacting and mixing in a particular manner the used etchant with sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide.
