Abstract: An apparatus for installing a newel post in a railing comprises a straight, double-ended bolt (12), the lower end of which includes coarse lag threads (14) by which it is screwed into a hole drilled into the underlying floor. The upper end of the bolt (12) includes screw threads (16) which extend through intersecting longitudinal and transverse holes (24, 40) drilled in the bottom end and side of the newel post (22) for receiving a nut and washer (18, 20) by which the newel post is tightened down. The transverse hole (40) is preferably closed with a plug 42.
Abstract: A lift arm assembly (30, 32) for a commercial riding mower includes pivotal lift arms (36, 38, 40, 120), each of which is biased downwardly by an adjustable spring arrangement for better control and contact between the underlying turf and the cutting reels supported on the outer ends of the lift arms.
Abstract: A manually actuated, hydraulic manhole cover lifter (10) comprises a frame (12) mounted on wheels (58) and adapted to straddle a manhole. An actuator (30) is mounted on the frame. The actuator comprises a cylinder (36) connected to a pump (34). A magnet (50) is connected to the cylinder (36) for engagement with the metallic manhole cover. In a second embodiment, the lifter (70) includes pivotal legs (74) in order to be more compact for storage and transport. A winch (108) can be utilized instead of a pump and cylinder arrangement (34, 36), and the manhole cover can be engaged either mechanically or magnetically.
Abstract: An improved brush attachment (10) includes a frame (12) comprising a semirigid plate (14) and rigid braces (16-24) so that the relative overall stiffness is adjustable in accordance with the contour of the underlying surface. An arrangement of end-to-end, oppositely angled brushes (46-60) is provided on the bottom of the frame (12).
Abstract: An improved assisted dip/chin exercise device (10) comprises a frame (12), chin bar (28), dip bar (30) and a pivotal foot bar (54) which is connected through a cable and pulley system to a weight stack so that a pre-adjusted amount of assistance can be selectively applied when and as desired for more effective training.
Abstract: Bench press (10) includes adjustable safety/range limiting bars (50) mounted for incremental adjustment over a wide range beneath the weight bar support pins (40, 42) in the uprights (14). The bench (24) is preferably positioned at a predetermined reduced height so that the knees of the athlete are substantially above the plane defined by his/her head, shoulders and back or hips to achieve more stability and to avoid arching and thus straining the lower back.
Abstract: A scrubber module (16) of the wet type includes a partition (26) extending across the upper end of a tank (20) between the dirty flue gas inlet (28) and the clean flue gas outlet (30). The partition (26) takes the form of a plurality of hollow fingers (32), the zigzag lower edge of which is submerged in the aqueous absorbent (22). Oxygen-containing gas such as air is introduced into the lower end of the tank (20) as the partially cleaned flue gas from a baghouse or precipitator (76) is forced underneath the partition (26) at the upper end of the tank to facilitate oxidation and absorption of the sulfur dioxide into calcium sulfate in solution.
Abstract: An adapter (70) for supporting a taper candle and chimney glass on a candle ring (16) in a centerpiece arrangement includes a plate (72), a candle holder (76), end clip (74) for snap-releasable engagement with the inner ring of the candle ring, and a chimney glass holder (80). The candle ring (16) preferably includes radial extensions or runners (90) in order to form a swag centerpiece.
Abstract: A wall-mountable back brush (10) comprises a base (12), bristles (14, 16) thereon, and suction cups (20) secured thereto in adjustable spaced apart relationship. The base (12) is preferably curved in accordance with the curvature of the lumbar region.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for pharmacological control of spastic urethral sphincters, particularly in patients with spinal cord injuries, includes a special monopolar electrode/needle (30) adapted for insertion through a cystoscope (46) in electrical isolation therewith but connection with an electromyograph (12) for precise determination of injection sites so that a toxin, such as botulinum A, can be injected directly into skeletal muscle tissue, rather than connective tissue, to denervate and thus relax the sphincter.
Abstract: A quick connect/disconnect assembly (10) comprises a male insert (50) secured to one end of a hose assembly (14), a separate female adapter (52) for attachment to an aerosol can (12), and dual seal arrangement (68, 70) within the adapter, and a releaseable latch (78) for positively interconnecting the insert and adapter. Upon insertion of the male insert (50), leakage of any fluid is contained within the female adapter (52).
Abstract: A universal bath waste and overflow drain assembly (10) comprises an overflow tube (12), drain pipe (14), t-connector (16), and an adapter (18) which can be interchanged and connected as desired in different drain configurations according to the requirements of the particular.
Abstract: An improved tease comb or hair pick (10) includes a handle (12) and a row of teeth (14, 16 and 18) thereon. A medium length tooth (16) is provided between each pair of long teeth (14) and a short tooth (18) is provided between each medium tooth and the adjacent long tooth, in order quickly to provide more volume with less tangling and knotting.
Abstract: With the process, pasta products are packed in serving portions, ready for sale. For doing this, the pasta products are separated into serving portions prior to drying and packing into the package. In order to avoid mechanical breakage, provision is made, when separating the pasta products, to lay at least one serving of pasta product onto a carrying member of the at least two-part package. Afterward, the carrying member is combined with the remaining packaging members into a package.
