Patent number: 3970861Abstract: A peak load control and power-distributing system for residential or small commercial/industrial use in which some loads are uncontrolled and others are controlled. Current transformers in the main feeder for all loads supply current to a thermal switch to detect when the power demand exceeds a predetermined value. The thermal switch starts a small synchronous motor having gears driving a shaft with cams operating microswitches for the controlled loads. One cam switch enables the motor to operate through a preprogrammed cycle, and to turn off at the end of a cycle whenever the thermal switch indicates the power demand has dropped below the predetermined value.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1974Date of Patent: July 20, 1976Assignee: Sangamo Electric CompanyInventor: Samuel C. Patent number: 3963019Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting changes in body chemistry, for example, glycemia, is disclosed in which a beam of light is projected into and through the aqueous humor of the patient's eye. An analyzer positioned to detect the beam on its exit from the patient's eye compares the effect the aqueous humor has on said beam against a norm. An excess or deficiency of glucose present in the aqueous humor produces a corresponding positive or negative variation in the exiting beam and thereby indicates a hyper or hypo glycemia condition in the body chemistry of the patient being tested.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1974Date of Patent: June 15, 1976Inventor: Robert S. Patent number: 3961869Abstract: The invention provides an air compressor of low cost, high quality, long life and of simple and rugged construction and ready replaceability of the chief wear parts as a unit. The compressor employs a wobble piston with a Teflon or equivalent packing on the wobble piston, which packing bears against the surface of a working cylinder of aluminum with a hardened polished surface. The working cylinder in the form of a cylindrical sleeve is seated at its lower end on a circular shoulder in the main housing or frame. At its upper end it is seated and sealed in a groove in a head plate which provides a cylinder head for the cylinder and a closure for the top of the main frame. An inverted cup shaped delivery chamber rests upon and is secured to and sealed by an O-ring of heat resistant rubber to the head plate to receive the delivery of compressed gas and to provide anchorage for a delivery pipe or pipes.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1974Date of Patent: June 8, 1976Assignee: Thomas Industries, Inc.Inventors: Arthur John Droege, Sr., Richard Charles Bell

Patent number: 3961868Abstract: A small high speed direct connected motor compressor has a unitary piston and piston rod whereby the piston wobbles in the cylinder as the crank shaft rotates. The wobbling piston is sealed to the cylinder by a flanged disk of Teflon which forms both a seal and mechanical guide for the piston and which runs without lubrication in contact with a low-friction, surface-coated cylinder of high heat conductivity. The circular rim of the Teflon cup is warped from circular outline to elliptical outline twice per revolution while maintaining its seal with the walls of the cylinder. The structure involves small clearance spaces with consequent good efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1974Date of Patent: June 8, 1976Assignee: Thomas Industries, Inc.Inventors: Arthur John Droege, Sr., Richard Charles Bell

Patent number: 3961138Abstract: The data comprises 8-bit words, plus a leading bit as a start bit at a logic one, and a trailing bit for parity, for a total of 10 bits per group. A synchronizing circuit in the receiver selects a proper phase of clock signals for shifting the data bits into a shift register. An enable flip-flop for the synchronizing circuit is set in response to the start bit at the receiver input, and is reset when the start bit appears in the last bit position of the shift register. In a preferred embodiment, a clock signal is divided into three phases by a delay line. The synchronizing circuit has three flip-flops for selecting the phase when the enable flip-flop becomes set. These flip-flops enable gates for supplying the selected phase to the shift register. Delays are provided from the transmission line to the shift register and enable flip-flop inputs, so that the sampling is centered over each data bit.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1974Date of Patent: June 1, 1976Assignee: North Electric CompanyInventor: Frank Fellinger

Patent number: 3957200Abstract: A humidity controller includes a set point device, which establishes a set point for humidity within a given area, and a humidity sensor, which senses the humidity within the area, connected in a sensing network which provides a differential output voltage indicating deviations of the humidity from the set point. The output voltage selectively enables differential threshold detecting circuits which energize humidifying and dehumidifying apparatus to return the humidity to the set point value. A differential range adjust, which establishes a turnon threshold for the detecting circuits, is derived from the set point such that the turnon differential for the detecting circuits remains fixed regardless of the set point value.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 1975Date of Patent: May 18, 1976Assignee: Johnson, Controls, Inc.Inventor: Geoffrey Allen Young

Patent number: 3955910Abstract: A pilot fuel ignition system including an ignition circuit for generating sparks for igniting fuel emanating from a pilot burner to establish a pilot flame, a control circuit responsive to the ignition circuit to operate a pilot valve to supply fuel to the pilot burner, and a sampling circuit controlled by the control circuit to maintain the pilot valve operated and to operate a main burner valve to supply fuel to a main burner for ignition by the pilot flame. A flame sensing circuit enabled whenever a pilot flame is established normally disables the ignition circuit, but periodically enables the ignition circuit to test the operability of the ignition circuit. Failure of the ignition circuit to operate results in the disabling of the sampling circuit causing shutoff of the pilot and main burner valves. Also, a warp switch energized whenever the pilot flame is extinguished effects shutoff of the pilot valve interrupting the supply of fuel to the pilot and the main burners.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1974Date of Patent: May 11, 1976Assignee: Johnson Service CompanyInventor: Russell Byron Matthews

Patent number: 3949995Abstract: In accordance with the present invention two independent controls of the application of the pickup needle to the groove are provided. The first control involves means to overcome the tendency of the needle to skate up and sidewise out of the groove, and the second involves an adjustment of the downward pressure on the needle to keep it fully in contact with the walls of the groove. Two independent influences are required--the first acting generally parallel to or diagonally downward to the plane of the record groove and the second requires an influence acting mainly normal to the plane of the record groove. The two tendencies arise from causes which are independent of each other, and for best reproduction they require independent corrective measures accordingly. Conveniently operable independent controls for each of the above requirements, respectively, are provided in a convenient location on the player, according to the present invention.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1974Date of Patent: April 13, 1976Assignee: Avnet, Inc.Inventor: Dwipendra Nath Guha
