  • Patent number: 4846270
Abstract: A well tubing extension joint including a trash barrier. A top sub having an internal locking recess is connected on the upper end of a well packer mandrel. A trash barrier is connected on the lower end of an upper tubing string for releaseably engaging the top sub to permit the upper tubing string to move longitudinally relative to the packer and packer top sub. The trash barrier includes a body having locking collet fingers for releaseably locking the body in the top sub at the locking recess. The body has external rings seals for sealing with the top sub and an internal wiper seal for sealing with the upper tubing string extending through the body.

  • Patent number: 4838366
Abstract: A drill bit for drilling holes in earth formations including a bit body having an integral shank for connection to a drilling machine stem and integral radial mounting wings for supporting removable cutter blades, and a removable cutter blade secured on each wing, each cutter blade having a tungsten carbide front drilling face arranged at a negative rake angle and an outside side face having a forward cutting edge of tungsten carbide and a relieve angle extending rearwardly and inwardly toward the axis of the bit for minimizing the mass of the bit exposed to the bore hole wall during drilling for reducing the temperature of bit. The bit has a longitudinal bore and lateral angular bores for air drilling fluid.

  • Patent number: 4812985
Abstract: A system for the storage and retrieval of motor vehicle keys wherein the keys are mounted in a container to which is affixed a printed bar code label identifying the vehicle stock number, its color and model. The system includes a bar code reader and a plurality of vertically rotatable circular plates having a plurality of key storage locations around the periphery of each. A pick and place arm is driven by a central processing unit in response to either the bar code read upon insertion of a key to be stored or upon entry of data from a key pad by a user to either store a key in an assigned location or to retrieve a key from that storage location and deliver it to the user. The system also includes routines whereby reports may be prepared for management indicating the individuals who currently have keys outstanding and the number of times each individual has removed the keys for each particular vehicle over a period of time.

  • Patent number: 4805696
Abstract: A hydraulic release tubing seal divider for connecting lower and upper tubing strings together in a wellbore, including an inner housing assembly connected with one of the tubing string and middle and outer housing assemblies connected with the other of the tubing strings, including hydraulically operable locking structure carried by the middle and outer housing assemblies for locking the tubing strings together while the strings are run into a well, and for hydraulically releasing the middle and outer housing assemblies from the inner housing assembly to permit relative telescopic movement in the well between the upper and lower tubing strings at the tubing seal divider.

  • Patent number: 4798247
Abstract: A power supply and control arrangement for a submersible pump and solenoid operated safety valve system. A surface control unit is connected to a downhole control unit by a three conductor cable. A single phase 400 Hz signal from the surface unit is rectified downhole and operates the solenoid to open the safety valve but is too high a frequency to affect the pump motor. A downhole detector senses full open condition of the safety valve and sends a signal to the surface where it is received by a monitor. The monitor interrupts the 400 Hz signal and applies a three phase 60 Hz signal to all three conductors of the cable to operate the pump motor and be rectified downhole to hold the solenoid and safety valve open. Loss of the valve open signal by the monitor interrupts the 60 Hz signal and disables the system until it is reset.

  • Patent number: 4781607
Abstract: A pilot valve system including an electrical connector assembly for a subsurface safety valve operated by control fluid pressure from the surface including a pilot valve connected with the control fluid line to the subsurface safety valve and into the well production string immediately above the safety valve to bypass the control fluid pressure directly into the tubing string and dump the control fluid pressure from the subsurface safety valve into the tubing string directly above the valve to minimize the time delay between control fluid pressure reduction and the safety valve closure.

  • Patent number: 4779900
Abstract: A segmented retainer gland assembly for holding pipe joints and the like together, including at least two gland segments in the shape of a circular arc forming together a circular gland for securing around a circular pipe, each of the segments having end flanges projecting substantially perpendicular to one side face of the gland segment, a clamping bracket having an inside face provided with a recess sized and shaped to receive the two end segment end flanges when adjacent ends of the gland segments are positioned together, each of the clamping brackets and gland segments having bolt holes and each of the clamping brackets having corresponding bolt holes which align with the bolt holes in the gland segments when the segments are positioned together, and bolts and nuts for securing the clamping brackets on the gland segments to hold the segments together at the end flanges to form a circular gland when the flanges are assembled together.
