Abstract: A foldable walker having a front frame section, left and right side frame sections and a top frame section. The left and right side frame sections and the top frame section are all hingedly attached to the front frame section. The walker folds by disengaging the top section from the left and right side frame sections. The top section pivots downwardly to lie against the front frame section. The left side section pivots outwardly to lie against the front of the front frame section. The right side frame section pivots inwardly to lie against the top frame section and the rear of the front frame section.

  • Patent number: 5169097
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for the support of an accessory unit within the defined space of a storage area. The storage area is preferably a floor-mounted console receptacle or a dashboard receptacle commonly found within the seating compartment of an automobile. The support structure provides a mounting plate that supports a radio telephone unit within the receptacle by spanning the space separating side walls of the receptacle. Engaging Velcro attachment elements mounted upon both side flanges of the mounting plate and the receptacle side walls permits the mounting plate supporting the radio telephone unit to be easily installed to removed within the receptacle. The use of Velcro elements to removably install the mounting plate within the receptacle eliminates the need for fastening screws, nuts and bolts, or rivets to mount a support structure within the storage area.

  • Patent number: 5163833
Abstract: A peripheral adapter board and circuit which is capable for operation with two different personal computer bus architectures is disclosed. The preferred peripheral function for the board and circuit is a terminal emulator, which allows a personal computer into which the board is plugged to function as a terminal for a mainframe or minicomputer. Edge connectors or contacts are provided on opposite side edges of the board; each one of the edge connectors is compatible with a different computer bus. The adapter board may be flipped over to plug into either computer bus. A removable, repositionable connector board assembly is provided at one end of the board, for mounting communications connectors in a position accessible from the back panel of a host personal computer. The connector board may be repositioned to maintain the orientation of the communications connectors with respect to the personal computer back panel when the adapter board is flipped over to plug into a different computer bus.

  • Patent number: 5163947
Abstract: A needle spacer is disclosed for use with a biopsy needle assembly of the type which is coupled to a driving unit to effect movement of the needle assembly. The needle spacer maintains the biopsy needle assembly in a predetermined operational relationship until after the needle assembly is coupled to the driving unit. In the preferred embodiment, the needle spacer prevents the lid of the driving unit from being closed while the needle spacer is still in place on the needle assembly, thereby eliminating the possibility that the physician will forget to remove the spacer prior to firing the instrument. In a first alternate embodiment, the needle spacer is configured to interfere with movement of the needles within the driving unit while the spacer is still in place so that if the physician attempts to fire the instrument with the needle spacer still in place, the needles will not advance.

  • Patent number: 5160530
Abstract: Agriculturally active materials, such as pesticides, herbicides and the like and a process for microencapsulating said materials. The present invention includes trifluralin having a polymorphic form characterized by a yellow color and a melting point of approximately 41.degree.-43.degree. C. The present invention also includes a method of using the yellow polymorphic form of trifluralin as a herbicide. In addition, the present invention includes a method of microencapsulating low-melting agriculturally active materials, such as trifluralin. The microencapsulation process comprises the steps of heating a low-melting, water-immiscible, agriculturally active material to a molten state. The molten active material is then combined with an aqueous soluion of a water-soluble, film-forming polymer at a temperature sufficient to maintain the active material in its molten state.

  • Patent number: 5156045
Abstract: Method in improving of the precision of impedance detectors in radiosondes. In the method, the temperature of the detector or detectors (30 and/or 10) is measured by means of a thermocouple (20), in which the joint (23) of one branch of its thermoelements (21,22) is placed in connection with, or at the proximity of, the detector to be measured. In the thermocouple (20) the joint (24) of the other branch is placed in the atmosphere (SA) surrounding the detector. By means of the thermocouple (20), the difference (T.sub.1 -T.sub.0) between the temperature (T.sub.1) prevailing in connection with the detector and the temperature (T.sub.0) in the surrounding atmosphere (SA) is detected. The output signal (f.sub.out) of the measurement coupling of the radiosonde is affected by means of an electric signal (U(t)) representing the difference (T.sub.1 --T.sub.

  • Patent number: 5154309
Abstract: Insulation material is configured to provide improved insulating properties in a shipping container. A sheet of insulation material is placed aong the bottom of a container under the contents of the container. An insulating blanket constructed of plastic sheets sealed around their periphery to form a pouch for containing scored paperboard and scored mineral wool is configured to have an inverted U-shape and is placed over a bottom half of the container. A top half of the container is then placed over the bottom half such that the legs of the inverted U-shaped material are between the overlapping side of top and bottom of the container and the middle portion of the U-shaped material is between the top of the container and the contents within the container. A method of scoring mineral wool positioned between plastic sheets is also provided.

  • Patent number: 5152743
Abstract: Selective separation of blood cholesterol by cascade filtration. An in vivo filter is implanted within a blood vessel to separate plasma from blood, and the separated plasma is removed to an extracorporeal secondary filter which removes low density lipoprotein (LDL) from the plasma. The in vivo portion of the apparatus comprises a number of microporous hollow fibers sized to permit diffusion of plasma, but not cellular or other larger blood components, through the fiber pores to the hollow interior of the fibers. The secondary filter passes the removed plasma along membrane walls formed by fibers sized to block passage of LDL while permitting passage of other plasma components, so that approximately 95 percent of LDL is separated from the plasma before the plasma is returned to the body in real time after removing the LDL cholesterol.

  • Patent number: 5151082
Abstract: Kidney dialysis in which metabolic waste products are removed from plasma instead of blood. Plasma separation takes place in vivo through a filter implanted within a blood vessel, and the separated plasma is removed to an extracorporeal dialysis apparatus for separating waste products from the plasma. The plasma then is returned to the bloodstream. Plasma flow in the system is significantly less than blood flow used in current hemodialysis systems, so that the present system performs dialysis continuously in real time to eliminate the extreme swings of toxicity associated with high-volume hemodialysis.
