Abstract: There is disclosed an improved method of installing wall-to-wall carpet. The method comprises installing a wall-to-wall carpet on a substrate bounded at least partially by opposed walls by applying to the substrate an intermediate member having a top surface, applying to the top surface of the intermediate member the bottom surface of the carpet, the top surface of the intermediate member and the bottom surface of the carpet being constructed such that the surfaces resist relative movement between the intermediate member and the carpet; and cutting the carpet to conform to a desired shape at least partially bounded on two sides by the opposed walls.

Abstract: A geodesic slotted cylindrical (GSC) antenna having a shaped elevation pattern and a narrow or shaped azimuth beam that can be scanned 360.degree. in the azimuth plane. The azimuth radiation pattern of the GSC antenna can be reconfigured through the use of interchangeable beam forming feed networks. The GSC antenna comprises a parallel plate waveguide formed by spaced-apart inner and outer cylinders constructed from conductive material. Radiation occurs from a stack of circumferential slots in the outer cylinder. By varying the slot spacing with the azimuth angle, the elevation pattern can be altered as a function of the azimuth angle. The GSC antenna can be excited by a number of equally spaced probes on a circle at the base of the cylinders. The feed radius is typically smaller than the outer cylinder's radius to minimize the number of active components and to minimize the number of spurious ray paths that can wrap around inside the cylinder's parallel plate region.

Abstract: In an electronic word processing system environment, a system and method for verifying the accuracy of the grammatical composition of a sentence in the background. While the word processor is in edit mode, i.e., the user is entering data or commands, it is determined when there is an idle period. An idle period is when the user is not entering data or commands. During an idle period, a sentence is extracted from the electronic document. It is determined whether the sentence is of proper grammatical composition. If the sentence does not have proper grammatical composition, then an error indication is displayed to the user in the context of the electronic document. These tasks may be repeated for each sentence in the document until the entire document has been proofed or the idle period ends. When the user selects the error indication in the document, a pop-up menu is displayed beneath the sentence containing the error.

Abstract: Disclosed is a thermoplastic composition that comprises a unreacted mixture of polyethylene oxide polymer and a multicarboxylic acid. One embodiment of such a thermoplastic composition is a mixture of polyethylene oxide polymer and adipic acid. The thermoplastic composition is capable of being extruded into fibers that may be formed into nonwoven structures that may be used in a disposable absorbent product intended for the absorption of fluids such as body fluids.

Abstract: A plug connection for a pressure system comprising a receptacle part and a plug part, the plug part is inserted into the receptacle part and retained therein by a locking device which forms a prelocked, unsealed connection and a locked, sealed connection between the plug part and the receptacle part with a limit stop element which indicates when the locked, sealed connection has been obtained.

Abstract: A golf souvenir holder for safe keeping and display of golf score cards, tees, and pencils. The holder includes a backing sheet and a thin cover sheet of clear plastic film attached to the backing sheet. The cover sheet overlays the backing sheet and forms a first pocket having an opening for removably receiving a golf score card. The souvenir holder also includes a second pocket attached to the cover sheet adjacent the first pocket and having an opening for receiving a golf pencil or a golf tee. Desirably, the souvenir holder includes a third pocket for holding a golf pencil or golf tee and is adapted for engaging the rings of a ring binder.

Abstract: A pallet for a wheeled item comprises a base frame having openings for receiving forklift arms, a plurality of tracks mounted on the base frame for receiving the wheels of the item, and a plurality of ramps mounted on the base frame and sloping from the tracks toward the base frame so that when the wheeled item is shifted on the wheels from the tracks along the ramps, the undercarriage of the wheeled item comes to rest on the pallet. Wheeled items can be quickly loaded and secured on the pallet and can be manipulated with a forklift for storing wheeled items in stacked relation. The pallet can be designed to store wheeled items with aligned or offset casters.

Abstract: A seat slide apparatus includes: a lock plate axially attached to a side surface of an upper rail of which a portion near a base portion is axially attached in a freely rotatable manner; a lock hole formed in a lower portion close to a free end of the lock plate; and a lock spring engaging the lock hole with a lock tooth of a lower rail by using an urging force. In the construction, the engagement of the lock hole with a lock tooth prevents a seat main body mounted to the upper rail from moving in a longitudinal direction and canceling the engagement makes the seat main body freely move in the longitudinal direction. A lock plate guiding long hole is formed in the upper rail. A lock spring locking means is provided on the lock plate at a portion corresponding to the lock plate guiding long hole in such a manner that the lock spring locking means is inserted into the lock plate guiding long hole and projects from the lock plate guiding long hole so as to lock the lock spring.

Abstract: A caller ID call-back device that allows a user to automatically place telephone calls to selected directory numbers using several dialing plans. A user may select a dialing plan by selecting a first, second, or third dialing plan selection device. Selection of each dialing plan selection device causes the caller ID call-back device to automatically dial a received caller ID directory number using a particular dialing plan. The dialing plans typically include the last seven digits of the received directory number, all ten digits of the received directory number, and one plus all ten digits of the received directory number. The caller ID call-back device may also include a memory call-back selection device for automatically dialing a received caller ID directory number in accordance with a dialing plan indicator that was previously saved in association with the directory number.

Abstract: A method of generating reactive species which includes exposing a photoreactor composition to radiation, in which the photoreactor composition comprises a wavelength-specific sensitizer associated with one or more reactive species-generating photoinitiators. Also described are methods of polymerizing unsaturated monomers and curing an unsaturated oligomer/monomer mixture.

Abstract: An imperfect fungus such as a microorganism belonging to the genus Curvularia in a culture medium containing nutrients utilizable for normal microorganisms and isolating MK7634 substance of a molecular formula: C.sub.8 H.sub.15 N.sub.3 O.sub.4 from the culture by, for example, solvent extraction, ion exchange resin technique or gel filtration chromatography. The MK7634 substance can be used as an active ingredient of drugs. In particular, the MK7634 substance is a novel anthelmintic substance and expected to be used as an active ingredient of anthelmintics.

Abstract: A system for retrieving and displaying programming information in response to selection of a category of programming information. Programming information is presented via a schedule display having a category display, a subcategory category display, and a program display. The category display displays an array of category tiles representing categories of programming information. The subcategory display displays an array of subcategory tiles representing subcategories that are associated with the categories of the category display. The program display displays an array of program tiles that are associated with the subcategories of the subcategory display. A viewing panel extends along each of the displays for displaying one each of the category, subcategory, and program tiles. Classes of programming information are selected by scrolling the tiles of the associated displays until the desired class items are presented within the viewing panel.

Abstract: Compositions and methods of use of constructed microbial mats, comprising cyanobacteria and purple autotrophic bacteria and an organic nutrient source, in a laminated structure, are described. The constructed microbial mat is used for bioremediation of different individual contaminants and for mixed or multiple contaminants, and for production of beneficial compositions and molecules.

Abstract: A method and system for programming a remote control unit to control the operation of a controllable device. A group of code sets associated with a particular type and brand of controllable device are selected from a database of code sets stored in the memory of the remote control unit. The commands of each code set in the group of code sets are compared to identify similarities and dissimilarities between command formats within each respective code set. The user tests a command and provides feedback to the remote control unit regarding the results of such testing. When the testing of a command is successful, the remote control unit eliminates code sets containing a command format that is dissimilar to the format of the command that was successfully tested. By eliminating code sets from the group of code sets and testing other commands, the remote control unit eliminates all but one code set.

Abstract: In association with a computer system, a method and system for allowing multiple users to simultaneously edit a spreadsheet. Multiple users access a spreadsheet stored in a disk file and make independent changes to the spreadsheet. Changes are stored in respective memory change logs on each user's computer. When a user performs a save operation, the contents of the memory change log are appended to a disk change log in the disk file. When each user performs a save operation, each user's changes, as maintained in each respective memory change log, are appended to the disk change log. Conflicting changes that cannot simultaneously exist in the spreadsheet in the disk file are identified and resolved by allowing the user to select the winning action or automatically selecting the most recent action as the winning action. Losing actions in the memory change log are deleted and losing actions in the disk change log are effectively canceled by applying an inverse action to the losing action.

Abstract: Routing information between an origination module and a destination module using a routing architecture. After an origination module (OM) receives information, a packet is transmitted to a routing architecture (RA) for routing to a destination module (DM) designated by the router packet. The RA interprets the router packet and adaptively routes the router packet to the DM so that the router packet is quickly processed by the DM. If the DM's queue is empty and the DM is not processing any other packets, the RA places the router packet in the queue and the DM reads its queue to process the router packet. If there is another router packet being processed by the DM, the RA adapts by placing the router packet in the queue. Once processing of the other router packet is complete, the DM processes the router packet in the queue. If there is already another router packet pending within the DM's queue, the RA adapts by creating another DM in memory to process the router packet.

Abstract: A heating system with a combustion chamber into which fuel is fed via a fuel feed unit in the form of an injection device which operates on the energy-storage principle and has a pump and a nozzle device which delivers bursts of fuel in specified quantities. With this fuel burner, it is possible to select both the quantity of fuel injected and the injection frequency independently of any boundary conditions, thereby optimizing levels of harmful pollutants in the exhaust gas and effectively counteracting resonance vibrations in the burner.

Abstract: An improved filtration media, method of preparing the media, and method of treating a fluid stream with the media are disclosed. The improved media comprises a substrate having elevated levels of permanganate and water in one embodiment. More specifically, the improved media comprises a porous substrate impregnated with at least approximately 5% permanganate, and at least approximately 10% water, by weight. In another embodiment, the media further comprises sodium bicarbonate. Improved efficiency of removal of undesirable compounds such as hydrogen sulfide is achieved.

Abstract: A data communications system characterized by the combination of a base station connected to a plurality of repeaters for communicating with remote terminals in response to outgoing data from a host computer and for communicating with the host computer in response to incoming data from the remote terminals. Each repeater is assigned a coverage area with in a predetermined communications area to support data communications with the remote terminals located within its coverage area. In response to incoming data, a repeater conducts a signal amplification operation and outputs amplified incoming data to the base station via a first communications link. The base station processes the amplified incoming data and, in turn, generates processed incoming data for distribution to the host computer via a second communications link.
