  • Patent number: 6169174
Abstract: Nucleotide sequences of cotton plant cDNA clones randomly selected are determined. Homology search is performed between the sequences and known gene sequences registered in the data base. Thus a gene, which controls the fiber formation mechanism in cotton plant and which can be used for industrially useful improvement, is isolated from clones having homology to a gene in the data base.

  • Patent number: 6168654
Abstract: The present invention is directed to compositions containing a colorant and at least one porphine. The present invention includes an ink set of one or more inks which have substantially identical light fastness properties. One or more of the inks of the ink set includes a colorant and at least one porphine. The porphine imparts light-stability to the colorant so that the colorant does not fade when exposed to electromagnetic radiation such as sunlight or artificial light. The ink set provides a range of colored inks having similar light-stability.

  • Patent number: 6165625
Abstract: Improved instrument pad surgical drape for use during surgical procedures is disclosed which is resistant to melting caused by high intensity light generated from sources such as fiberoptic illumination systems. The instrument pad and drape comprise an infrared energy reflective film/foam laminate that may also have a high coefficient of friction which is useful for retaining surgical instruments in place and preventing them from slipping off the pad during a surgical procedure.

  • Patent number: 6164678
Abstract: The present invention provides a non-rotating wheel disk for the main wheels of conventional wheelchairs. The non-rotating wheel disks shield the spokes from damage and a user's hands from injury. Easily accessible pockets for storing needed materials, catheter bags, and the like, are attached to an outer surface of the non-rotating disk. An exercise device for use from a conventional wheelchair is also provided. The exercise device may be used alone or in combination with the wheel disk of the present invention, which provides additional support for the exercise device.

  • Patent number: 6159399
Abstract: A spreader pipe for use in erecting concrete walls. The spreader pipe may contain at least one hole in its wall which is then covered with an impermeable cuff to prevent the poured concrete from passing into the spreader pipe. Once the wall has been erected and the boarding plates removed, grout may be injected into the spreader pipe in such a manner that it flows through the at least one hole and passes from the cuff into the hollow spaces and cracks in the concrete wall around the spreader pipe thereby making the concrete wall substantially waterproof. Alternatively, the spreader pipe may contain weak spots, rather than the at least one hole, which are punctured by the pressure of the grout being forced into the spreader pipe, thereby filling the hollow spaces and cracks in the concrete wall around the spreader pipe.

A data message system for communicating data collected from remote data sources includes sets of reporting devices, at least one mobile switching center (MSC) of a CMR system, and a data collection system connected to said MSC via a first communications link. Each recording device monitors a remote data source to obtain selected data and thereafter transmits a data message containing the selected data. The data collection system stores the data messages and processes the selected data. The data message system is equipped to process data messages of varying lengths, through the use of an expandable data message structure. A paging acknowledgment system is also provided for communicating both (1) paging messages and (2) acknowledgment messages to confirm reception of the paging messages.

  • Patent number: 6154219
Abstract: Labeling objects on a computerized map in an efficient manner while avoiding collisions with both more and less important objects. A first list contains objects to be labeled on the computerized map, the objects being both points and non-points. Each of the objects in the first list has a label selection priority. A second list contains the a collection of objects from the first list having the lowest label selection priority. The system can draw each object in the first list to the computerized map in ascending order of label selection priority. As each object is drawn, the system labels the object with a label while avoiding collisions between the label and objects in the second list having a higher label selection priority than the object.

  • Patent number: 6151500
Abstract: Apparatus, method and system for notifying a communications switching center that a subsequent communication directed to a wireless number associated with the wireless unit is to be routed to a directory number associated with the wireless unit. A converter may be provided and connected to a current source and to a communications switching center. The wireless unit may be connected to the converter, and if connected, the unit draws current therefrom. In response to the draw of current by the wireless unit through the converter, the converter transmits a message to the communications switching center. The message includes a notification that a subsequent communication directed to the wireless number associated with the wireless unit is to be routed to the directory number associated with the wireless unit.

  • Patent number: 6149705
Abstract: A projectile, such as a bullet, is made by combining two different metals in proportions calculated to achieve a desired density, without using lead. A base constituent, made of a material having density greater than lead, is combined with a binder constituent having less density. The binder constituent is malleable and ductile metallic phase material that forms projectile shapes when subjected to a consolidation force, such as compression. The metal constituents can be selected, rationed, and consolidated to achieve desired frangibility characteristics.

  • Patent number: 6147685
Abstract: A system and method for grouping and editing items directly on a display screen without accessing a dialog box. A box is displayed for grouping a plurality of items. These items are comprised of various fields of information. At least one field is selected for grouping the items. After the field is selected, the field is placed onto the box. The selected field is then displayed in the box. After the field is displayed in the box, the items are grouped by the selected field. After grouping the items by the selected field, the items are displayed as grouped by the selected field. The tasks are repeated for each field remaining if nesting of groups is desired. Items can be edited directly on the display screen by selecting an item from a first field group. The item is then moved to a second field group. As the item moves to the second field group, a message is displayed indicating the status of the item if the item is placed in the second field group. The item is then placed in the second field group.

Abstract: A device that provides feedback to a golfer on the characteristics of their swing of a golf club. The device can be mounted to or incorporated into the head of the golf club and includes a first light source and at least a second light source. The first and second light sources are aligned such that an imaginary line bisecting the first and second light sources passes through the sweet spot of the ball-striking face. When the club head is at the address position, the imaginary line lies in a horizontal plane and is further preferably at right angles to the ball-striking face in that plane. The first and second light sources are visible to the golfer when using the golf club at least at the time when the club head is striking the ball. The first light source has a first turn on/turn off cycle pattern and the second light source has a second turn on/turn off cycle pattern that is different to that of the first light source.
