  • Patent number: 4176566
Abstract: Sheet material is moved along its length from a supply to a take-up spool and the material is inspected as it is moved. A garment pattern image is projected on and is moved with the material. The operator determines where the material is to be cut either from the length accumulated on the take-up spool or from the image projected on the material, and if a flaw in the material is detected, the operator determines if the flaw should be removed by identifying the pattern part in the garment from the image projected on the material where the flaw will appear. If the flaw is to be removed, the operator cuts the flaw out and splices the cut ends of material together at splice marks in the image projected on the material. The spools loaded with sheet material with this procedure are loaded in a creel, and the ends of the sheets of material from the spools in the creel are aligned in a vertically stacked arrangement and moved to a cutting apparatus where the garment pattern is cut in the stacked sheets of material.

  • Patent number: 4176269
Abstract: Apparatus for rapid and automatic welding of joints which interconnect sections of pipe, and in particular oil or gas transmission pipe. The system includes at least one torch transport assembly which simultaneously moves a plural number of welding torches along a path parallel to the pipe joint being welded. The torch transport assembly includes track segments which surround circumferential portions of the pipe joint, with a welding torch carrier and multiple torches being independently movable along each track segment. The torch transport assembly is mounted on a support apparatus which is rigidly clamped to the pipe sections during welding, and which permits the torch transport assembly to be rapidly positioned in rough alignment with a pipe joint. The torch transport assembly and selected operating parameters of each welding torch are adjusted to accurately position each torch with respect to the pipe joint, and to repeatably provide programmed welding parameters resulting in a uniform pipe joint weld.

  • Patent number: 4169428
Abstract: A sleeping bag for pets is formed from a multiple ply padded sheet of deeply quilted material which is normally folded along its central portion with opposite halves in overlying relationship to form lower and upper layers and with the edge portions of each half in alignment with each other. A closure means, such as a zipper, connects the overlying edge portions of the layers together to form an open-end bag with a pet entry opening at one end. A plurality of small air openings are formed in the edge portions of the layers with each air opening being of a size smaller than the appendage of the pet to use the bag, so that the air openings and the deeply quilted inside surfaces of the sleeping bag form air passages inside the sleeping bag and movement of the pet in the bag usually causes air to enter into and exhaust from the bag. An accessory attachment pocket is formed in the bag structure for the insertion of flea retardant chemicals, etc.

  • Patent number: 4169329
Abstract: Apparatus for converting a firearm of a first caliber to fire cartridges of a second caliber. The regular bolt assembly of the firearm is removed and replaced with a conversion bolt assembly having a flat receiver plate which is bifurcated to provide a pair of flat rails. A bolt assembly is supported for movement along the rails, out of contact with the receiver of the firearm. The receiver plate of the conversion bolt assembly extends forwardly from a backplate which accurately locates the conversion assembly within the firearm, and the receiver plate is tilted to clear the conventional ejection port of the firearm. The conversion bolt assembly includes an automatic sear trip which enables full-automatic firing of second caliber cartridges on firearms that are so equipped, and also includes a weight for improved full-automatic operation. The disclosed embodiment is designed for use with an M-16 or AR-15 rifle.

  • Patent number: 4166639
Abstract: An auxiliary lift axle wheel assembly is mounted to a vehicle body by L-shaped levers, each of which is pivotally mounted at the intersection of its legs to the vehicle, and the lift axle is held in its upward, unloaded position on the longitudinally extending legs of the levers by the force of springs bearing against the upwardly extending legs of the levers. Air inflatable air springs positioned between the auxiliary lift axle and vehicle body are filled with air to move the auxiliary axle downward relative to the vehicle body with force sufficient to overcome the force of the springs to urge the wheels of the axle down into load-bearing engagement with the road surface beneath the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4159947
Abstract: The dewatering system includes a first endless filter belt movable along its length through an upper run, then through an arc about a dewatering drum, and then through a lower return run in a sinuous path about a plurality of rollers. A flowable aqueous material or slurry, such as sludge, is deposited on the upper surface of the belt as it moves along its upper run. A subatmospheric pressure is applied to the lower surface of the upper run of the first belt to induce the liquid to drain from the sludge. A second endless filter belt is movable into sandwiched relationship with the first belt about the sludge and moves with the first belt about the dewatering drum and about the plurality of rollers in the sinuous path of the return run.

  • Patent number: 4157692
Abstract: The label dispensing system includes an upright label housing which is open at its lower end, a stationary shelf at one side of the opening of the housing for supporting the edge portion of the bottom label in a stack of labels in the housing, a movable platform at the opposite side of the opening of the housing, and pointed instruments movable through slots in the shelf to impale and push the bottom label off the shelf. The platform moves to a level above the shelf to bow the bottom label downwardly as the pointed instruments impale and push the bottom label off the shelf. A suction head is movable from a position immediately beneath the bottom label in the housing through a downward arc to a position above a moving work piece, to grasp and pull the bottom label from the platform and move the bottom label from the stack in the housing to the work piece.
