Abstract: A device is usable to feed at least one material web and/or at least one strand that is comprised of several material webs into a folding device. A superstructure is part of the device, as is a former that can be displaced in relation to the material web, and a transverse cutter which is usable to separate the material web or webs into individual products. At least one guide rail is provided in the superstructure and carries a retaining device that can be displaceably guided on the path of travel of the material web through the superstructure. A leading edge of at least one of the material webs can be attached to the retaining device. The guide rail passes the former and includes at least one flexible guide rail section whose form can be altered. In particular, the length of the flexible guide rail section can be adjusted in the region adjoining the former.

  • Patent number: 7921773
Abstract: A doctor blade system utilizes a lightweight doctor blade chamber to apply ink to an inking roller. The doctor blade chamber is removably positioned on a support plate which is, in turn, carried by linear guides on pivotable end plates. A rigid box beam is also attached to the end plates and is spaced from the support plate. A plurality of membrane cylinders are mounted on the rigid box beam and engage a surface of the support plate opposite to the surface that supports the doctor blade chamber. Through the application of suitable force, the support plate and its supported doctor blade chamber can be moved, by sliding motion on the linear slides, into uniform engagement with the surface of the ink roller. The system uses pivotable end plates which are supported by exterior plates that are, in turn, pivotably supported by press side frames.

  • Patent number: 7912570
Abstract: An accompanying document for a printing substrate, which is to be printed in a printing press, is configured as an electronic data set that is stored in a memory of an RFID tag. Data relating to a production-preparatory generation of an adhesive surface, on the printing substrate to be fed to the printing press, is written into the data set. Data relating to the manufacturer of the printing substrate of to its supplier, and data relating to the manufacture of the printing substrate are also written into the data set. In the case of a commercial unit having a printing substrate that has been only partially printed during a production run of the printing press, the data set can be supplemented with data which, at least, characterizes an event. The event could relate to a break in the printing substrate or to changes to the commercial unit which occurred during the production process that was implemented in the printing press using the printing substrate of the commercial unit.

  • Patent number: 7900583
Abstract: A bird toy for stimulating a foraging instinct by surrounding a treat on a platform on a main body with one or more substantially transparent rings rotatable and vertically slidable on the main body. In one or more rotative positions of the ring or rings turned by a pet bird, the ring or rings are allowed to shift vertically to make the treat accessible. • Patent number: 7886663
Abstract: Vibrations of a cylinder, which is a part of a web-processing machine, and particularly a printing machine, are dampened. A functional correlation is determined for a course of a force of a channel passage through a nip point defined by the cylinder and a second cylinder. The functional correlation is pre-defined up to a scaling factor determining the height as a time course for an actuator force time course and is stored in a control or a regulating device. The vibration, or an amplitude of the vibration is measured during the operation of at least part of the cylinder by the use of a sensor. A maximum vibration amplitude on the roll body of the cylinder is then calculated from the measuring value. The actuators are controlled by the control or regulating device according to the pre-defined actuator force time course.

  • Patent number: 7883455
Abstract: A folding device includes a folding blade cylinder and a cooperating folding jaw cylinder, each of which has several circumferentially arranged holding devices. These holding devices can be moved between a disengaged position, where the leading end of a product can be inserted or released, and a holding position in which the product leading edge is held in the holding device. The folding blade cylinder and the folding jaw cylinder each have a number of holding devices equal to the respective number of folding blades and folding jaws. Each of the folding blades presses a product to be folded, and which is held by one of the holding devices on the folding blade cylinder, into a cooperating folding jaw on the folding jaw cylinder. This is accomplished during the passage of the product through a transfer slot between the folding blade cylinder and the folding jaw cylinder. An offset between each folding blade and its associated holding device is adjustable.

  • Patent number: 7832682
Abstract: A material roll is transported to a roll changer by being arranged on a transport carriage. The material roll and transport carriage are placed on a transfer table which is moved into position between journal bearings of the roll changer. The transfer table is adapted to move the material roll transversely and along a longitudinal axis of the material roll and can pivot in a horizontal plane. An inclined position of the material roll, arranged on the transfer table, is determined by sensors. In this determined, axially aligned position, the material roll is axially aligned on the bearing journals. The roll size of the material is determined. An axially aligned position for roller support arms of a roll carrier of the roll changer is determined as a function of the determined roll size. An axially aligned position of the transfer table is determined as a function of the determined roll size and the determined inclined position of the material roll.

  • Patent number: 7830939
Abstract: A method and structure for producing lasers having good optical wavefront characteristics, such as are needed for optical storage includes providing a laser wherein an output beam emerging from the laser front facet is essentially unobstructed by the edges of the semiconductor chip in order to prevent detrimental beam distortions. The semiconductor laser structure is epitaxially grown on a substrate with at least a lower cladding layer, an active layer, an upper cladding layer, and a contact layer. Dry etching through a lithographically defined mask produces a laser mesa of length lc and width bm. Another sequence of lithography and etching is used to form a ridge structure with width won top of the mesa. The etching step also forming mirrors, or facets, on the ends of the laser waveguide structures. The length ls and width bs of the chip can be selected as convenient values equal to or longer than the waveguide length lc and mesa width bm, respectively.
