    Abstract: A roll of material is unloaded from a roll changer of a web-processing machine. The roll changer includes a first arm having a first axle journal and a second arm having a second axle journal. The roll of material is rotatably supported between these two spaced axle journals. The first arm is moved axially outwardly until the first end of the roll is stripped off the first axle journal. The second arm is then also moved axially outwardly until the roll of material is stripped off the second axle journal.

    Abstract: Three fundamental and three derived aspects of the present invention are disclosed. The three fundamental aspects each disclose a process sequence that may be integrated in a full process. The first aspect, designated as “latent masking”, defines a mask in a persistent material like silicon oxide that is held abeyant after definition while intervening processing operations are performed. The latent oxide pattern is then used to mask an etch. The second aspect, designated as “simultaneous multi-level etching (SMILE)”, provides a process sequence wherein a first pattern may be given an advanced start relative to a second pattern in etching into an underlying material, such that the first pattern may be etched deeper, shallower, or to the same depth as the second pattern. The third aspect, designated as “delayed LOCOS”, provides a means of defining a contact hole pattern at one stage of a process, then using the defined pattern at a later stage to open the contact holes.

    Abstract: The present invention on embodies a device and method for creating a bloodless field at an incision site in a blood vessel. The invention includes a perfusion tube for allowing perfusion of blood past the incision site. A pair of conical occlusive members are mounted on either end of the perfusion tube for preventing blood from flowing into the surgical site. A tubular stem depends from the tube, and includes a movable stopper which may be moved between a first position for blocking blood flow through the perfusion tube, and a second position for enabling blood to perfuse through the perfusion tube. With the movable stopper in the first position, a first end of the device may be inserted through a small incision into the upstream side of a blood vessel so that the blood flow is blocked. The second end of the device may then be inserted in the downstream side of the incision. The stopper may then be moved to the second position so that blood is free to flow through the perfusion tube.

    Abstract: A two-piece handle is provided having a male handle half and a female handle half, each of which may be formed separately by molding, machining, or other processes. The male handle half includes a projection near the rear of the handle, and has a first hole in the projection for receiving a leaf spring rod. The female handle half has an integral spring holder which includes a recess for receiving the projection of the male handle half. The spring holder has a second hole for receiving a leaf spring rod through it which intersects with the recess. When the projection of the male half is fitted into the recess of the female half, the first hole and the second hole line up sufficiently to enable the insertion of the leaf spring rod. When the leaf spring rod has been inserted, it aids in retaining the male handle half in an assembled state with the female handle half, while also serving a spring for the blade locking mechanism.
