Abstract: The invention comprises a spectroscopic measuring device, a seal for such a device, and a method for sealing such a device. A window having a first and second portion is disposed in a cavity of a housing. The first portion is adjacent to an exterior of the device and has a first diameter less than a second diameter of the second portion, thus forming a shoulder therebetween and defining a gap between the first portion and an interior housing surface. An intermediate ring with a, metallic coating is disposed in the gap adjacent to the shoulder. A retaining ring is disposed in the gap adjacent to the intermediate ring. An exposed surface of the retaining ring is flush with an end housing surface and an exposed sapphire surface. A portion of the exposed retaining ring surface is electron beam welded to a portion of the end housing surface. The housing, intermediate ring, and retaining ring comprise a nickel-molybdenum-chromium alloy.

  • Patent number: 6563992
Abstract: The invention relates to a fiber-optic coupled diffuse reflectance probe that is adapted to detachably connect to a bifurcated fiber bundle. The probe includes a solid light guide for separating the bundle from the target within a small-diameter probe body. A probe of this construction is especially useful for analyzing high temperature and high pressure targets, through relatively small fittings, as is required in polymer extrusion applications. The solid light guide may extend along all or along a lesser portion of the probe body's length. Its fiber-end may be coupled directly to the illumination and detector fibers or indirectly, and at some distance from the fibers, by way of a lens or a hollow light guide. Its target-end may be exposed to terminate in a direct face-to-face relationship with the target, or it may be located behind an intermediate window. The solid light guide is characterized by a target-end refracting surface that minimizes stray light.

  • Patent number: 6560109
Abstract: A stack of multilayer modules has a segmentation layer disposed between neighboring multilayer modules. The segmentation layer facilitates the separation of neighboring multilayer modules. The stack of multilayer modules includes a first multilayer module and a second multilayer module. Each multilayer module includes a plurality of active layers each comprising a substrate, at least one electronic element, and a plurality of electrically-conductive traces. The second multilayer module is disposed to be neighboring the first multilayer module with at least one segmentation layer between the first and second multilayer modules. The segmentation layer includes a metal layer and at least one thermoplastic adhesive layer. When heat is applied, the metal layer conducts heat to the thermoplastic adhesive layer.

  • Patent number: 6550216
Abstract: A storage shed comprises a plurality of posts erected onto a base. The posts comprise a prismatic profile disposed over a hollow bar to form a void and a longitudinal slot. Corrugated wall panels are disposed in between the posts. U-channels are coupled to the base to support the posts and wall panels. The wall panels include parallel latitudinal folds and longitudinal side flanges which fit into the longitudinal slots of the posts. A roof frame is disposed on top of the vertical posts and wall panels. Corrugated roof panels are disposed on the roof frame. The corrugated roof panels include parallel latitudinal folds and side portions adapted to overlap with each other. Ridge panels are disposed at the ridge of the roof frame so as to cover a portion of the roof panels on each side of the shed. Facia boards are disposed on an entrance end and a rear end of the roof frame. Doors are disposed on an entrance side of the shed.

  • Patent number: 6513380
Abstract: Disclosed is a MEMS sensor including a sense element and a single anchor that supports the sense element arranged in a central hub-like fashion that reduces the effects of thermal stress. Usually, two or more anchors are required to suitably constrain the sense element's motion. The anchor disclosed herein, however, supports the sense element with connection elements having a connection geometry that substantially limits the motion of the sense element to a single-degree-of-freedom. The connection elements may include, for example, converging flexures, an extender bar, or both.

  • Patent number: 6510624
Abstract: The invention is an inflatable inner sole for footwear which has a flexible, inflatable enclosure with an inflation system that preferably includes an on-board air pump and a pressure relief valve. In this invention the inner sole has a sheet and/or foam cover or surround on the flexible enclosure for enhanced comfort. Useful sheet covers can be plastic, including rubber, films in solid or foamed state, or fabric which are applied against the upper, wearing surface of the inflatable enclosures. The covers can be bonded only to the edges of the inflatable enclosures to permit relative movement between the covers and enclosures, or can be bonded to the top surface of the enclosures, or formed as surrounds which encapsulate the inflatable enclosures.

  • Patent number: 6476392
Abstract: A temperature dependent focal plane array operates without a temperature stabilization cooler and/or heater over a wide range of ambient temperatures. Gain, offset and/or bias correction tables are provided in a flash memory in memory pages indexed by the measured temperature of the focal plane array. The memory stores a calibration database, which is accessed using a logic circuit which generates a memory page address from a digitized temperature measurement of the focal plane array. The calibration database is comprised of an array of bias, gain and offset values for each pixel in the focal plane array for each potential operating temperature over the entire range of potential operating temperatures. The bias, gain and offset data within the database are read out, converted to analog form, and used by analog circuits to correct the focal plane array response.

  • Patent number: 6446563
Abstract: An improved load bearing pallet includes an upper deck formed from a sheet of thermoplastic material with a load engaging surface and an opposing, substantially parallel lift engaging surface. Ridges, channels, depressions, and legs, are formed in the sheet with corresponding features being necessarily defined by the sheet on the opposite side. The pallet preferably includes a peripheral channel formed around a periphery of the upper deck and nine legs positioned in three rows of three creating two gaps on each side of the pallet for the tines of a fork lift to enter to lift the pallet. A plurality of strengthening ridges and channels are formed in the load bearing surface of the upper deck, with corresponding channels and ridges necessarily formed in the lifting surface of the upper deck, to resist bending and folding of the pallet.

  • Patent number: 6408842
Abstract: An oven includes single or multiple decks of longitudinal burners extending from an infeed end to an outfeed end of a body. The burners are slanted relative to a direction of a movable carrier such that a product traveling on the carrier will be heated continuously from one side to the other by a burner whose orientation is diagonal to the product's path of travel. The proportion of air and gas may be separately controlled for each deck. Furthermore, each burner may be individually controlled and monitored to maintain a desired temperature within the body. Latitudinal pilot runners extend across the width of the oven to ignite and maintain the longitudinal burners. Infrared burners above the top deck initially heat a product to either seal in or eliminate moisture. The invention further comprises a method for heating a product.
