  • Patent number: 7453400
Abstract: A radio geolocation system is described in which a plurality of moving platforms such as aircraft concurrently receive a signal from a remote transmitter and the geolocation of the transmitter is determined. At each platform every thirty seconds a plurality of samples of the received signal are taken over a one second period. The samples are digitized and a time and GPS location stamp are added to each sample. The digitized samples with time and location stamps from all platforms are transmitted to a central location and stored in covariance matrices, one matrix per one second sample period. The signal samples in each matrix are processed utilizing a unique algorithm to generate a data set which defines a correlation surface. The data from a plurality of data sets are summed together on a point by point basis and normalized to yield a summation data set which defines a summation correlation surface.

  • Patent number: 7436351
Abstract: Apparatus and a method utilizing correlation interferometer direction finding for determining the azimuth and elevation to an aircraft at long range and flying at low altitudes above water with a transmitting radar while resolving multipath signals. The signals from the radar are received both directly and reflected from the surface of the water using horizontally polarized and vertically polarized antenna arrays, are digitized and are stored in separate covariant matrices. Eigenvalues for the eigenvectors of the matrices processed on signal samples recorded on horizontally polarized X arrays are compared to the eigenvalues for the eigenvectors of the covariance matrices processed on signal samples recorded on vertically polarized X arrays. Incident field polarization is associated with the antenna array measurements that yield the strongest eigenvalue. The eigenvector and eigenvalues for the strongest signal are selected and used for subsequent signal processing.

  • Patent number: 7432444
Abstract: A temporary protective cover for an electrical outlet box is disclosed which is attached to the outlet box after wiring is installed but before wallboard is hung over the box. The protective cover has a protruding pin mounted in a keyhole shaped hole through the cover and when wallboard is mounted over the outlet box the protruding pin indicates the location of the box so a tool can be used to cut away wallboard covering the box while preventing wires inside the box from being cut. The protruding pin is then slid along the keyhole slot to its large end and is pushed inside the outlet box. The absence of the protruding pin makes it easier to apply spackle, paint and other materials to the wallboard and to sand it. The cover provides protection against spackle, paint, dust and other debris from entering the outlet box until the cover is removed by an electrician who then install outlets and switches.

  • Patent number: 7322301
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for processing sewerage sludge and other organic based feedstocks, in an energy efficient manner that minimizes or eliminates unwanted byproducts, including pathogens, and generates useful environmentally safe products. The sewage sludge or other feedstocks are partially dried before being input to a gasifier operating under partial pyrolytic conditions with a small amount of oxygen or air present to produce fuel in the form of synthesis gas, bio-oil fuel, and char. A small percentage of the fuel may be used to maintain the operation of the feedstock drying process after it is started and a small amount of the synthesis gas produced in the gasifier reacts with the small amount of oxygen present with the feedstock to maintain the pyrolysis temperature in the gasifier in order to make the system economically viable.

  • Patent number: 7310024
Abstract: A double oven crystal oscillator (DOCXO) is disclosed which is highly stable by incorporating means to reduce the effects of ambient pressure changes on the frequency of the oscillator. The oscillator crystal is mounted in a temperature controlled inner oven to reduce the effects on the frequency stability of the oscillator. The oscillator circuitry and all circuitry associated with the inner oven is mounted in good thermal contact with the inner oven. A Faraday shield at ground potential is placed over the oscillator circuitry to minimize the effects of stray capacitance between the oscillator components and the case wall of the inner oven. The effects of minor deformations in the case walls within the oscillator caused by ambient pressure changes and other factors causing pressure changes are thereby greatly minimized.

  • Patent number: 7286587
Abstract: A Ho:YAG crystal laser is disclosed which is doped with less than 2% holmium to reduce the lasing threshold and up-conversion, thereby increasing the operating efficiency of the laser. The laser does not need sensitizer ions so energy mismatches introduced by the sensitizer ions ale eliminated to the thereby increase the efficiency of the laser while minimizing detrimental thermal loading in the laser caused by up-conversion loss processes. The Ho:YAG crystal laser is directly pumped by a Thulium fiber laser at 1.9 ?m at the holmium 5I7 to 5I8 transition to produce an output at 2.1 ?m yielding a very low quantum defect. The laser is embodied as a thulium fiber laser pumped oscillator or an amplifier.

  • Patent number: 7268728
Abstract: A Moving Transmitter Correlation Interferometer Geo-Location (MT-CIGL) system is disclosed that permits locating both moving and stationary transmitters from moving DF equipment. A conjugate gradient based search routine is utilized which solves for the location of moving and stationary transmitters at the start of each measurement sequence and then solves for the velocity and direction of motion of the moving transmitter. This information is used to track the moving transmitter. Received signals are sampled, digitized and stored in covariance matrices. They are then summed and normalized using an equation that has velocity terms that are set to zero to minimize extraneous correlation peaks, and a maximum correlation peak is developed. A conjugate gradient search routine is used to find the correlation peak of the summed data. The value of the peak is then analyzed to see if it is above or below a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 7233285
Abstract: Correlation Interferometer Geo Location (CIGL) uses DF antenna array movement on an aircraft while taking a Plurality of sets of transmitted signal Measurements. Each measurement set is stored as data in a covariance matrix, and the matrices are each decomposed to yield measured array vectors. Using an array manifold table developed during calibration of the CIGI. system, and containing testing array vectors, the measured array vectors are each correlated to testing array vectors to develop a correlation Surface that includes compensation for perturbations Such as aircraft induced electromagnetic scattering, All the correlation surfaces are summed and normalized, with the resultant summation undergoing conjugate gradient processing to more accurately geo-locate the transmitter. Improved accuracy with fewer antennas and polarization independence are also achieved.

  • Patent number: 7170909
Abstract: A directly pumped, un-sensitized, holmium, quasi-two level fiber laser is disclosed that is doped with Holmium active ions between 0.1 and 2.0 percent by atomic weight. This yields greater energy efficiency from the laser because up-conversion losses are minimized, mismatches created by sensitizer ions are eliminated by having no sensitizer ions, and thermal loading of the fiber medium of the laser is thereby reduced. In addition, the pump ratio of the fiber laser is 0.9 which yields a very low quantum defect. The low doping percentage of holmium active ions also eliminates any absorption of its own energy because the power of the diode pumping source is sufficient to cause the laser to reach transparency.

  • Patent number: 7119739
Abstract: A technique is disclosed for calculating the phase and amplitude weighting factors for use with a specific compact antenna range that synthesize an in phase, constant amplitude planar wave front that appears to have been transmitted from the far field. The weighting factors are used to weight RF signals after they are received by a full size or scaled radio direction finding array mounted on a platform during testing of the antenna array on the compact antenna range. The weighted received signals accurately replicate the antenna array response in the far field, including electromagnetic glint caused by the platform on which the antennas are mounted, and are stored in complex voltage form as a calibration table for the array.

  • Patent number: 7111812
Abstract: A fastening device is disclosed for attachment to a pole without the need for tools and without the need for excessive force to mount or remove the device from the pole. The device has an interior channel that is open along a side of the fastening device. The opening in the channel along the side of the device is defined by first edges that are uniformly spaced apart and contiguous second edges that are angled away from each other, starting with the spacing of the first edges, until their spacing is equal to the diameter of the pole. To mount the fastening device to the pole its top edge with the widest spacing of the second edges are placed against the pole and pushed on to the pole for a short distance before rotating the bottom of the fastening device on to the pole. This attachment sequence distributes the mounting force timewise making it easier to attach or remove the fastening device to or from the pole.
