Abstract: A low bit rate digital audio coding system includes an encoder which assigns codebooks to groups of quantization indexes based on their local properties resulting in codebook application ranges that are independent of block quantization boundaries. The invention also incorporates a resolution filter bank, or a tri-mode resolution filter bank, which is selectively switchable between high and low frequency resolution modes or high, low and intermediate modes such as when detecting transient in a frame. The result is a multichannel audio signal having a significantly lower bit rate for efficient transmission or storage. The decoder is essentially an inverse of the structure and methods of the encoder, and results in a reproduced audio signal that cannot be audibly distinguished from the original signal.
Abstract: Provided is a shoe that has a multi-layered sole with embedded padding. More specifically, at least one of the layers includes a sheet of base material having a hole through its central region, such that the hole is surrounded by the base material, and a cushioning pad attached to the base material so as to fill the hole. In one representative embodiment, the cushioning pad is approximately the same size and shape as the hole, and the perimeter of the pad is stitched to the perimeter of the hole. As a result of such construction, padding is provided in a manner that tends to resist damage over time.
Abstract: Provided is a technique for evaluating an asset, such as a share of stock in a corporation, by processing historical data for value of an asset and historical data values for various exogenous variables to obtain a formula for calculating a measure of a tendency of the value of the asset to change as a result of changes in the data values for the exogenous variables, the formula being a function of the exogenous variables. Projected data values are then obtained for the exogenous variables, and a measure of the tendency of the value of the asset to change based on a change in at least one of the exogenous variables is estimated using the formula and the input projected data values.

Abstract: Provided are, among other things, systems, methods and techniques for making a shoe outsole and to shoe outsoles made using such techniques. In one such technique, a sheet of composite material is produced by extruding a base material together with a sheet of fabric material. The sheet of composite material is then cut into an outsole component, and a shoe outsole is fabricated using the outsole component.
