Abstract: A decorative urn for storing cremation ashes in a lighted two part container. The base section receives an ash-containing receptacle and supported thereon is a top section including a recessed wick structure and full reservoir. The sections are light transmissive so that light from the wick imparts a glow throughout the urn.
Abstract: An insect trap employing a light transmissive sleeve for placement over a suspended light source wherein the sleeve is removably secured to the light. The sleeve includes vanes circumferentially spaced on a cylinder with arcuate segments of the cylinder exposed therebetween. An adhesive coating is applied to the vanes and the arcuate segments. Attracted by the light, the insects are drawn to the adhesively coated surfaces and trapped. The sleeve is replaced periodically as necessary.
Abstract: A load cell having overload protection wherein a central cantilever beam is provided between the sensing beams in the load cell structure and is bounded by slots of narrow gap width. When an excess load is applied, the load cell structure is deformed and contacts the cantilever beam to transfer the load thereto. The gap width determines the amount of applied load which initiates the protection.
Abstract: A method of making polishing pads used for the planarization of semiconductor wafers wherein the pad includes a polymer sleeve filled with an optical polymer to provide a window for the pad. An opaque polishing pad polymer is molded around the sleeve and window to form a large volume cake which is then cured and subdivided into a multiplicity of individual pads.
Abstract: An automatic roach trap having a receiving container removably located in the trap enclosure. The trap utilizes a beam to detect roaches on a platform therein and actuates a mechanism to open an internal closure and coerce the roach into the underlying container. Access to the container is restricted during operation to prevent the escape of trapped roaches. The container is automatically closed upon withdrawal and designed to prevent inadvertent reopening during disposal.
Abstract: An outdoor microwave transceiver intrusion detector that alternately transmits pulses of RF energy at two different frequencies and uses range and direction of travel information derived from the phase of the two Doppler responses to optimize the signal processing and apply range dependent thresholds. The time delay between the onset of the transmitted pulse and the sample of the Doppler response is controlled to provide an accurate range cutoff. The two frequencies are selected so that the difference in phase of the Doppler response at the two frequencies increases from zero to ninety degrees as the target goes from the Transceiver to the maximum range. Digital signal processing is used to measure the difference in phase of the two Doppler responses and translate this information into location of the target. The location information is used to create a number of range bins.
Abstract: A flexible molded hanger for removable placement on the top of masonry walls to support Christmas lights and other displays. The hanger is bowed to facilitate placement and provided with a central pediment to receive a stabilizing member. Retention chips are formed on the hanger at spaced locations.
Abstract: An electric door strike having a keeper rotatably mounted in a fixed strike case for movement between open and closed positions. The keeper includes dual solenoids with a biasing link between the solenoid plungers to urge the plungers to a non-actuated position. Changing the biasing link in the keeper changes the mode of operation. The application of an actuating signal to a solenoid moving the plungers to an actuated position which can be either the fail-safe or fail-secure mode of operation depending on the biasing link employed.
Abstract: A FM CW cable guided radar for the detection and location of outdoor perimeter intruders. Helically wound outer conductors on coaxial transmit and receive transmission lines provide a slow wave structure to support the propagation of external electromagnetic fields. The two leaky coaxial lines are enclosed in an extruded plastic jacket with the outer conductors in continuous electrical contact along the length of the cable. A chirp frequency modulation provides a continuous target response having a baseband frequency that is proportional to the distance along the length of the cable. After location determination, the amplitude of the response is compared to a location specific threshold to determine if an intruder is present.
Abstract: A circuit for providing a pulsed signal to a driven device such as a tattoo imprinting machine wherein the pulse width and signal magnitude and frequency are controlled by the operator. A voltage controlled oscillator establishes the signal frequency, a variable impedance provides operator control of the signal magnitude and a foot-actuated switch enables the operator to control pulse width for intermittent operation. An adjustable frequency controller enables the operator to control the oscillator.
Abstract: A humidity sensing device dimensioned to be received in a humidor for detecting an out of range ambient moisture condition and transmitting a signal to a remote monitor. The sensing device establishes an acceptable range of period for a humidity sensitive oscillator. The out of range condition causes a signal to be transmitted to the decoding monitor which provides an alarm signal.
Abstract: A composition for use in the rehydration and treatment of scours in calves. The composition includes fiber, electrolytes and three energy sources. The energy sources are sugar, medium chain triglycerides and glycine, present in a combined amount of about 14 percent by weight.

Triangular floor panels are supported by longitudinal flanges on the beams to provide an elevated load-bearing surface. Abstract: A speed controller for a three phase induction motor using sliding mode control to generate estimates of stator current and rotor flux to control motor speed. The controller receives only the actual operating speed and the desired operating speed as input signals. The controller establishes linked non-linear hyperplaces containing the operating points of each phase and coerces the operating points to move along the line of intersection. A change in operating conditions causes a change in the power supplied to the phase terminals.

Abstract: A new and distinct variety of the Baccharis plant named `Starn` is provided. The new variety was selected as a single plant from a block of hybrid seedlings. The new variety is a staminate plant that does not produce the white floss (pappus) and seed associated in large quantity with Baccharis plants. The new variety is heat tolerant, possesses drought resistance, exhibits procumbent growth habit and displays green foliage coloration. The characteristics of this new variety of plant make it particularly well-suited for growing as a ground cover in urban desert landscapes and regions with limited water supply.
