Acrylic polymers containing moieties of at least two such aziridine compounds depending therefrom are also disclosed. The acrylic polymers are relatively non-toxic and have negligible inhalation irritation and are useful in the formulation of coating compositions which harden or cure at low temperatures.
Abstract: A radiation shield for visual display terminals capable of being mounted in front of a visual display terminal for attenuating electromagnetic fields emanating from such visual display terminal which comprises a sheet of glass carrying on at least one face a layer of conductive metal that does not appreciably impair visibility through the coated glass and metal grounding member ultrasonically bonded to the glass sheet solely at one location adjacent to a corner of the glass sheet.
Abstract: A novel ignition promoter; a process for preparing the ignition promoter which comprises removing cellulose from biomass, such as wood, bagasse, corncobs, straw, hay, or newspaper, and thereafter nitrating the remainder after treatment with an oxirane; and a fuel suitable for use in an internal combustion engine, such as a Diesel engine, containing an alcohol, such as methanol or ethanol, and said ignition promoter. Cellulose can be removed from the biomass by treating it with an aqueous nitric acid solution. The material remaining after cellulose removal can be nitrated using an aqueous solution of nitric acid. Nitration is carried out by reacting the material after cellulose removal with an oxirane, such as ethylene oxide, and thereafter nitrating the resulting product using aqueous nitric acid in combination with a dehydrating agent, such as sulfuric acid.
Abstract: A novel one-piece louver having a flat or substantially arcuate cross-section defining thereof first and second longitudinal edges, there being no other structure depending from the first and the second longitudinal edges, suitable for use in a louvered covering system carrying on at least one face thereof and along the periphery thereof an adhesive carrying a removable protection covering.
Abstract: A water line test cap is claimed comprising an elongated body closed at one end and having an elongated cylindrical recess and external threads at the other end thereof, an internally-threaded nut threaded to the elongated body, the nut being provided with a bore communicating with the elongated cylindrical recess and an expandable O-ring disposed therein, the cylindrical recess, the bore and said O-ring being linearly disposed and having the same internal diameter sufficient to permit the entry of a water pipe therein. In a preferred embodiment, the water line test cap is also provided with means to bleed the interior of air.
Abstract: A process for preparing an explosive comprising contacting a ketone with a compound capable of producing a product, or compound, containing nitro groups for a time sufficient to obtain a product having a high-energy content and the product resulting therefrom.
Abstract: A cooling apparatus that comprises a first elongated metal tube, a second elongated metal tube longitudinally disposed within the first elongated metal tube having a substantial portion of its outer surfaces out of contact with the inner surface of the first elongated metal tube, with the inner metal tube being adapted to provide passage through it of a hot fluid, and means for cooling the outer surface of the first elongated metal tube, whereby at ambient temperatures the tubes can be easily separated for inspection and at operating temperatures the tubes are substantially in contact with each other.
Abstract: A melt adhesive composition containing an amorphous polypropylene, a selectively hydrogenated monoalkenyl arene/conjugated diene block copolymer and a tackifier.
Abstract: A process for improving resistance of pressure vessel shells, tubesheets, tubes, pipes, pipe fittings and machine parts to stress corrosion cracking comprising heating at least those portions of such bodies subject to danger by stress corrosion cracking to a critical elevated themperature level, cooling at least the surface portions of the metal body subject to stress corrosion cracking and then permitting such treated portions of the metal body to come to ambient temperature.
