  • Patent number: 7734609
Abstract: Multi-level reputation based recommendation system and method focused on users as opposed to products or web sites. Establishes reputations of recommenders that may extend beyond a given user's first hand trust of these recommenders. Trust formed between a second and third user based on similar valuations that may not be shared between the first user and the third user may be utilized when recommending something useful for the first user. Reputations are subjective to each user and change over time. Provides recommendations to connect users with blogs, videos, other users, music, books, web sites, reviews, products, vacations spots, hotels, cities, events, activities and ad units for example. Does not rely on the number of static information connections, i.e., links to a given web site, but rather utilize dynamic information as it spreads through the interaction of users. May be utilized in any application or domain where users attribute value to things or actions.

  • Patent number: 7697986
Abstract: Cardiac pacemaker, having at least one stimulation pulse generator to selectively generate stimulation pulses for delivery to an atrium or to an atrium and a ventricle of a heart in DDD mode, at least one sensing stage adapted to process electrical signals sensed by an atrial and ventricular sensing electrode to detect an atrial or ventricular event and to generate an atrial or ventricular sense signal upon event detection, a control unit connected to the generator and sensing stage and being adapted to trigger the generator in DDD mode, wherein the control unit is adapted to verify proper atrioventricular conduction and to switch from a regular (DDD) mode, wherein scheduled ventricular stimulation pulses having predetermined positive intensity is triggered unless inhibited to a ventricular pulse suppression mode (VPS mode) wherein no ventricular stimulation pulses or ventricular stimulation pulses of sub-threshold intensity are generated as long as proper atrioventricular conduction is verified.

  • Patent number: 7692597
Abstract: A multi-feed dipole antenna and method. Provides a volumetrically efficient antenna with wide radiation pattern bandwidth and wide impedance bandwidth that are relatively independent. Driving the antenna at multiple locations provides for a half wavelength dipole antenna with a wider frequency range than any other known fat dipole of similar volume. The apparatus is constructed from brass or any other suitable metal without requiring dielectric loading and without requiring direct coupling on the outside of the tubes. The apparatus utilizes a parasitic center tube with two end tubes that are driven by a collinearly mounted metal rod that is driven from the midpoint. Insulators hold the parasitic tube to the end tubes. The parasitic tube allows for induced currents to flow on the surface of the tube which allow for operation of the dipole over a wide frequency range.

  • Patent number: 6809495
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention move objects throughout three-dimensional by using two supporting ropes each of which connects to both opposing sides of the payload. If one rope breaks, the payload gently travels to the middle of the coverage area in a safe manner, maintaining the given displacement in the other unbroken axis. One rope controls the X-axis motion of the platform and is designated the X movement rope. The other rope controls the Y-axis motion of the platform and is designated the Y movement rope. Displacing equal lengths of the X and Y movement ropes allows the Z-axis of the platform to be traversed. There is no need for a complex computer control system since the Z-axis displacement is substantially independent of X and Y axis movement over a coverage area serviced by the platform. In addition, since the ropes are commanded from one point, distantly located motors and electrical cables are not required.

  • Patent number: 6758346
Abstract: A storage housing or unit for holding a circular disk, such as a CD-ROM, Audio Compact Disk, DVD, or any media product of a similar size, shape, or thickness. The unit has a top portion with a number of grooves recessed approximately half the depth of the unit to house the disks at a slight angle for easy access and viewing. The center of the container may include a piece of closed cell foam or other soft material that has slits approximately 1.5 times the thickness of the disk that will frictionally engage the disk without causing any harm or scratches to the disk. However, other embodiments of the invention do not utilize such material. The unit sits upright with or without a stand and allows multiple disks to be stored and viewed without the use of any other storage apparatus such as sleeves or jewel cases. The unit is decorative in fashion and can be made using many different materials in a myriad of colors. An area in front or on top of the unit is saved for the placement of a logo or corporate identity.

  • Patent number: 6754666
Abstract: The present invention provides for storage of data items with dissimilar structures in a single database table while minimizing the problems associated with prior approaches. In one aspect of the invention, a method of efficiently storing data items in a database management system (DBMS) is provided wherein each data item has at least one attribute associated with it, the method comprising identifying a set of attributes associated with each data item, creating, for use with all of the data items, a common data structure that excludes those attributes unique to any one of the data items, and associating each data item with attributes excluded from the data structure.
