  • Patent number: 6895252
Abstract: A system for economically extending the effective operational range of an infrared remote control system having a remote control unit with an infrared transmitter, and a controlled device having an infrared receiver. The system includes a first transmitter to receive IR signals from the remote control unit and transmit an RF output signal corresponding to the infrared signal received from the remote control unit. The RF signal is received by an RF receiver which generates a second IR signal corresponding to the received radio signal. The second IR signal is transmitted to and received by the IR controlled device. In some cases, the first IR control signal, and in all cases, the RF, signal include information/data concerning the IR carrier frequency.

  • Patent number: 6661844
Abstract: A method and a device for coding and decoding a sequence of images or pictures is disclosed. One exemplary embodiment disclosed codes by dividing each picture into blocks of picture elements. Each element of a block being represented by a digital value. Two types of coding are utilized in order to reduce the amount of data; inter-coding, which takes into account a corresponding block in a previous picture and intra coding, which is independent from a previous picture. Blocks being thus coded so that a further reduction of data is obtained by transmitting high spatial frequencies with less weight than low spatial frequencies. This is accomplished with the use of weighting coefficients. Weighting coefficients are variable as a function of the quantity of information to be transmitted.

  • Patent number: 6601238
Abstract: A method and a system for displaying program information for a plurality of information sources on an electronic program guide (EPG) is described. A matched program and its respective program source is first determined. This first matched program from the respective program source is then highlighted in the EPG. Additionally, an icon for a respective program source is displayed indicating a future or a previously matched program from the respective program source.

  • Patent number: 6567252
Abstract: The protection circuit for a power supply unit comprises a switching stage, at which at least two output voltages to be monitored are connected, these voltages being isolated from one another by means of resistors. Arranged here in the connection path of the output voltages is a diode, which turns on and thereby triggers the switching stage in the event of a fault, when there is a drop in one of the output voltages. In this way, the switching stage provides information which acts on a control loop of the power supply unit, so that the power supply unit switches off. The protection circuit also includes a passive network with a resistor and a capacitor, which prescribes a time constant, after which the protection circuit permits renewed starting of the power supply unit. The switching stage may be realized, for example, by a transistor stage, which provides the information signal for the event of a fault for the power supply unit when turning on occurs.

  • Patent number: 6463209
Abstract: A method for controlling MPEG compatible data reproduced in sectors by a digital video disk player. The method comprises the steps of transducing groups of sectors including requested sectors having MPEG compatible data required for processing, and unrequested sectors having MPEG compatible data not required for processing. Coupling the requested sectors exclusive of the unrequested sectors to a data processor for processing. Processing the requested data sectors to extract the required MPEG compatible data representative of video information.

  • Patent number: 6275554
Abstract: A receiver for processing a VSB modulated signal containing terrestrial broadcast high definition television information includes an input analog-to-digital converter (19) for producing a digital datastream. A symbol timing recovery and segment sync recovery network (24; FIG. 3, 4) develops a properly timed sampling clock for the digital converter (19). The symbol timing recovery network (310) responds to an output from the segment sync recovery network (328), which in turn responds to an equalized signal from an adaptive channel equalizer (34). A controlled oscillator (336) generates the sampling clock for the digital converter. A control network (340, 344, 348; FIG. 3) shifts the frequency range of the oscillator to maintain desired linear operation to enhance symbol timing acquisition.

  • Patent number: 5298982
Abstract: A fixed filter determines a lower portion of the amplitude characteristic of a chrominance signal sideband correction filter. A variable filter determines the upper portion of the amplitude characteristic. A control signal tunes the variable filter for providing a symmetrical response for video signals having balanced color sidebands and tunes the variable filter for providing an asymmetrical response for video signals having unbalanced sidebands.
