    Abstract: Novel colored contact lens and methods for preparation thereof are described. Binding of a color coat to the lenses is accomplished by use of compounds containing the functional groups --CH.sub.2 --O--R.sup.1, wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 to C.sub.16 alkyl, and said --CH.sub.2 --O--R.sup.1 groups are attached to a carbon atom that is part of an aromatic ring, or are attached to a nitrogen or oxygen atom.
