Patent number: 6254202Abstract: A vehicle capable of performing automatic driving can be braked with a hydraulic braking pressure produced by a master cylinder having a vacuum booster and a hydraulic braking pressure produced by a hydraulic pressure pump provided to an ABS/B-TCS hydraulic pressure control unit. During normal braking, the vehicle performs braking with the hydraulic braking pressure produced by the master cylinder, by controlling a linear solenoid of the vacuum booster in accordance with a command from an automatic driving electronic control unit. If an insufficient braking force is obtained from the hydraulic braking pressure produced by the master cylinder or a failure occurs in the braking system of the master cylinder, the vehicle performs emergency braking with the hydraulic braking pressure produced by the hydraulic pressure pump of the ABS/B-TCS hydraulic pressure control unit HU.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1998Date of Patent: July 3, 2001Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Yoshimichi Kawamoto

Patent number: 6230675Abstract: In a valve lift control system for engine intake valves which selectively changes an intake valve lift of an engine, and a phase angle relationship of a timing of opening the engine valve in relation with a crankshaft angle depending on the operating condition of the engine, an arrangement is made to limit the advancing of the opening timing of the engine valve when a large valve lift is selected. It is thus possible to limit the advancing of the timing of opening the engine intake valve only when the valve lift is increased, and the advancing of the timing of opening the engine intake valve may cause an interference between the engine intake valve and the corresponding engine piston. The valve opening timing is otherwise optimized, and the maximum performance of the engine can be attained under all possible circumstances.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2000Date of Patent: May 15, 2001Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Toshiki Kobayashi, Koichi Yoshiki

Patent number: 6223108Abstract: An active actuator is interposed between the unsprung mass and the sprung mass of a vehicle, and a controller selectively extends and retracts the actuator at a prescribed acceleration so as to selectively apply an additional contact load to the wheel by making use of the inertial force of the sprung mass and/or the unsprung mass of the vehicle. A particularly advantageous result can be achieved by increasing the tire contact load when the wheel is about to lock up when braking. The present invention can thus reduce the braking distance for the given road condition.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1998Date of Patent: April 24, 2001Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Masaki Izawa, Kei Oshida, Hideaki Shibue

Patent number: 6214104Abstract: A substrate onto which a coating solution is dropped is rotated at a low speed in a first rotational mode and then after an interval of time at a high speed in a second rotational mode. At the end of the first rotational mode, the coating solution is coated to a thickness larger than a given thickness on irregularities on the substrate such as twin patterns and a global pattern, with the coating solution being coated to a thickness smaller than the given thickness between the twin patterns. Subsequently, at the start of the second rotational mode, the coating solution coated on the twin patterns and the global pattern flows into spaces between these patterns. At the end of the second rotational mode, the thickness of the coating solution on the twin patterns is almost nil, and the thickness of the coating solution on the global pattern is small in its entirety though it is somewhat large in the central area of the global pattern.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1996Date of Patent: April 10, 2001Assignee: Tokyo Ohka Kogyo Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroyuki Iida, Hiroki Endo, Hideya Kobari, Yoshio Hagiwara, Toshimasa Nakayama

Patent number: 6208102Abstract: In a method for controlling a powered sliding door system, a standard time period for the sliding door to pass a calibration interval defined near a fully closed position under a standard duty ratio condition is measured, and the duty ratio of the drive pulse signal for the motor in the remaining interval of operation is determined from this standard time period so that the sliding door may move at a prescribed speed irrespective of the load acting on the door. This control method can be favorably used in combination with the process of detecting an obstacle in the path of the sliding door, which is based on the detection in the reduction in the speed of the sliding door, without any interference between them.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1999Date of Patent: March 27, 2001Assignees: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha, Mitsuba CorporationInventors: Taizo Kikuchi, Kazunari Ochi, Toru Namiki, Tatsumi Sakazume, Hiroshi Ono, Masami Sayama
