  • Patent number: 8270104
Abstract: A turret knob comprises an adjustable member, an engagement member and a plurality of stop members. The adjustable member is capable of being adjustably positionable about an axis of rotation. The engagement member is coupled to the adjustment member, and a relative position of the engagement member with respect to the axis of rotation corresponds to a position of the adjustable member as the adjustable member is adjustably positioned about the axis of rotation. The plurality of stop members are each selectably positioned about the axis of rotation. Each stop member is capable of interfering with the engagement member and blocking movement of the adjustable member as the adjustable member is adjustably positioned about the axis of rotation. The adjustable member is adjustably positionable about the axis of rotation between adjacent stop member positions.

  • Patent number: 8228111
Abstract: A circuit architecture, or topology, that provides a level shifter substantially independent of the duty cycle of an input signal includes an H-bridge arrangement of field effect transistors, a pair of capacitively coupled input terminals connected to the gates of the high-side transistors and circuitry to set the bias voltage at the gates of the high-side transistors, wherein the bias voltage generation circuitry receives at least information indicative of both the H-bridge power supply voltage and the modulation of the input signal. Various embodiments include a switchable element coupled in series with a voltage divider portion in the bias voltage generation circuitry. The ratio of on to off time of the switchable element determines the average current through the voltage divider and thus the bias voltage. To prevent excessive short-circuit current flow through the high-side transistors, the switchable elements are turned off responsive to detection of a short-circuit condition.

  • Patent number: 8214328
Abstract: Database content changes are asynchronously remotely copied from a primary site to a remote site by associating sequential identification with each respective log record write and each corresponding data record write received at the primary site. Each respective log record write is asynchronously remotely copied from the primary site to the remote site, and an acknowledgement corresponding to a log record write that has been completed at the remote site is received at the primary site. Each data record write having a sequential identification that is prior to or equal to the sequential identification of the log record write corresponding to the received acknowledgement is then asynchronously remotely copied to the remote site. A log record write is asynchronously remotely copied from the primary site to the remote site before a data record write is asynchronously remotely copied from the primary site to the remote site.

  • Patent number: 8172139
Abstract: A portable system for facilitating inclined shooting of projectile weapons comprises a ranging system, an inclinometer and a processor. The ranging system measures a line-of sight range distance from a vantage point to a target that is elevated or depressed relative to the vantage point, and the inclinometer measures an inclination angle of a line of sight between the vantage point and the target. Based on information from the rangefinder and inclinometer, the processor determines a predicted altitude-compensated inclined shooting (ACIS) trajectory at the line-of sight range distance for a preselected projectile. The ACIS trajectory is based on a bullet path height correction between a bullet path height at a first altitude and a bullet path height at a second altitude, a range distance of the target from the vantage point, and selected meteorological atmospheric information.

  • Patent number: 8108750
Abstract: A data storage subsystem that includes three data storage units, three check storage units, and an array controller coupled to the three data and three check storage units can tolerate failure of any three data and check storage units failures can be occur before data stored on the data storage subsystem is lost. Information is stored on the data storage subsystem as a symmetric Maximum Distance Separation code, such as a Winograd code, a Reed Solomon code, an EVENODD code or a derivative of an EVENODD code. The array controller determines the contents of the check storage units so that any three erasures of the data storage units and the check storage units can be corrected by the array controller. The array controller updates a block of data contained in any one of the data storage units and the check storage units using only six IO operations.

  • Patent number: 8068941
Abstract: A system and a method for a controllable power-assisted application of pressure includes a force sensor capable of sensing a user-applied force; and a force generator responsive to the sensed user-applied force and capable of generating a force that is applied to a pressure-applying device. • Patent number: 8032643
Abstract: Network latencies are reduced by detecting a metadata access call for filesystem metadata contained in a filesystem node of remotely located filesystem. The metadata corresponding to the metadata access call is fetched when the metadata corresponding to the metadata access call is not contained in a local filesystem cache that has a hierarchical structure corresponding to a hierarchical structure of the remotely located filesystem. • Patent number: 7911674
Abstract: Varying the optical absorption of an electrochromic device in situ allows optimal control over the depth and quality of laser patterning lines when patterning electrochromic devices. Accordingly, an electrochromic device comprises a target conductive layer, an absorbing electrochromic layer formed below the target layer, and an electrolyte layer formed below the absorbing electrochromic layer. The absorbing electrochromic layer is placed in a darkened state, and the target layer is laser ablated using a wavelength that is minimally absorbed in the target layer and a fluence level that does not ablate layers of the electrochromic device that are below the absorbing electrochromic layer. The absorbing electrochromic layer is placed in the darkened state by applying a predetermined control voltage to the electrochromic device, forming the electrochromic device by dark-state deposition, or forming an electrochromic device that is in its darkened state in an equilibrium state.
