    Abstract: A lamp replacement tool which provides for positively captivating lamps for ease of removing or inserting lamps from or into the type of a lamp housing that forms part of a flush mounted push button switch used in aircraft cockpit control panels. The lamp is mounted behind a display legend formed on the face of the push button and for lamp replacement the push button portion of the switch unplugs from the switch body and hinges down to expose the rear of the lamp. A friction fit maintains the lamp in the lamp housing. The lamp replacement tool includes upper and lower blades extending from a handle member in spaced apart parallel relationship. The lower blade is formed with a forked end portion having a u-shape for engaging with a flange formed on a base portion of the lamp and for embracing the base portion. The upper blade is formed with either a v-shaped portion or an aperture for engaging with a base contact protruding from one end of the lamp. The upper blade terminates in an angled lead-in.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display is described that includes gray scale capability. Each pixel of the display is subdivided into a plurality of subpixels. Each subpixel includes an effective capacitor, with the liquid crystal material contained between the effective capacitor plates, and includes a control capacitor coupled in series with the effective capacitor. By controlling the capacitance of the control capacitors of the subpixels, selected subpixels can be activated as a function of the voltage applied across the series capacitors. By controlling the number of subpixels that are activated by the applied voltage, a gray scale capability can be provided for a liquid crystal display.

    Abstract: The microwave frequency characteristics of a cavity having a center conducting element and conducting cavity are modified by changing the length of the center conducting element. The resonating structure is comprised of a coaxial member providing the principal resonating surfaces. One end of the coaxial member is coupled to a wall of the cavity surrounding the center conducting member with provision for access to the interior of the center conducting member from a position exterior to the cavity. The second end of the center conducting element is free. In addition, the second end of the resonating element has threads fabricated on an interior surface and a self-locking insert positioned in the threaded portion. A threaded rod is inserted through the self-locking insert and extends beyond the center conducting element into the cavity.

    Abstract: A magnetic detent housed in an end cap adapted for mounting to a hydaulic control valve having a reciprocally actuated spool movable from a neutral to a detented position. The magnetic detent including a spool extension formed with a detent groove and slidably supported in a retainer mounting a plurality of radially movable balls. A centering spring exerting a biasing force for urging the extension to the neutral position. A clapper movably mounted on and in driving contact with the balls and spaced from a magnet member generating a magnetic force. A spring member exerting a relatively light pre-load force for urging the balls against the periphery of the extension and driving the clapper into magnetically held contact with the magnet member. The pre-load and magnetic forces combining to form a detenting force locking the balls against the biasing force of the centering spring. The biasing and pre-load forces combining to form a shifting force resisting movement of the extension from the neutral position.

    Abstract: A hydraulic pressure relief circuit including a main valve, a bleed flow orifice to provide stability to the main valve, a pilot valve having a differential area piston and a damping orifice in conjunction with an accumulator chamber. System pressure is limited by opening the main valve and allowing fluid flow from the system back to tank. The main valve is controlled as a bleed flow servo wherein the pilot valve meters the bleed flow from the bleed flow orifice to tank thereby controlling the opening of the main valve. Fluid flow through the damping orifice in conjunction with the accumulator chamber acts on the pilot valve to provide damping forces acting on the pilot valve with both rising and falling system pressures thereby limiting the maximum rate of pressure increase in the circuit.

A liquid absorbent sheet is positioned within the enclosure adjacent the first sheet and chemically reactive means for generating an exothermic reaction are positioned between the absorbent sheet and the second laminate sheet. The appliance is adapted to be advanced along a bed of hair in the same type of combing motion as is used to style the hair and the cutter is transported simultaneously with the comb. The cutter is positioned in the path of the deflected segments of hair for shearing thereof by the cutter.
