    Abstract: The present invention disclosed and claimed herein comprises a backup power system to supply current to an electromechanical actuator (50) to position a mechanical device (52) to a fail-safe position upon failure of a primary electric power source (12). A capacitor (40) is provided for storing energy. The capacitor (40) is charged by the primary electric power source (12). A relay device (35) is also provided for disconnecting the primary control signal upon failure of the primary electric power source (12) and connecting the capacitor (40) to the electromechanical actuator (50) to supply electric current to the electromechanical actuator (50) to position the mechanical device (52) to a fail-safe position. The relay device (35) comprises a transistor (32) which is kept turned off by the primary electric power source (12) and upon failure of the primary electric power source (12), turns on and energizes an electric relay coil (34).

    Abstract: A ventilated shoe for ventilating the foot is disclosed. The ventilated shoe contains an outer sole (14). A heel pad (16) is disposed at the rear end of the outer sole (14). An intake manifold (26) is disposed near the front of the outer sole (14). The intake manifold (26) is connected to pump cells (20), (22) and (24). An exhaust manifold (46) is also connected to pump cells (20), (22) and (24). The intake manifold (26) only allows air to flow through the manifold (26) into the pump cells (20), (22) and (24). The exhaust manifold (46) only allows air to flow out of the manifold (46) from the pump cells (20), (22) and (24). The pump cells (20), (22) and (24) are filled with an open-celled foam (70) so that when no pressure is being applied to the pump cells (20), (22) and (24), they draw air in through the intake manifold (26). When pressure is applied to the pump cells (20), (22) and (24), the open-celled foam (70) is compressed and the air is expelled through the exhaust manifold (46).

    Abstract: The present invention comprises a reversible drive ratchet wrench (10). A formed metallic insert (50) is provided. The reversible drive ratchet wrench (10) has a length, a head (14), including a ratchet mechanism (36) and a handle (16). A formed metallic insert (50) has an opening (28) for insertion of a ratchet mechanism (36). The formed metallic insert (50) also extends along the handle (16) of the wrench (10). A non-metallic covering (13) is molded around the metallic insert (50), encapsulating the head and entire length of the metallic insert (50), except for the interior of the opening (28). The non-metallic covering (13) is injection-molded around the metallic insert (50). The non-metallic covering (13) has a low dielectric value and may comprise glass fibers distributed longitudinally and/or nylon or copolymers. A non-metallic covering (13) may be of uniform thickness or varying thickness. The reversing lever (18) may also be made of the composite material.

    Abstract: A method and system for extracting revenue information from a point-of-sale (POS) terminal for purposes of revenue sharing including the step of periodically selecting and extracting predetermined portions of revenue transaction data in a proprietary database. This system allows extrapolation of select data relating to revenue traffic in a rental system. Revenue stored in a proprietary database (40) by a proprietary point-of-sale operating program is periodically selected, extracted and stored in a periodic database (42). This data is compared to a history database (38) comprising the periodic database as it existed prior to a given time. The data is output from the periodic database that is not present in the history database at the given time. This data can be transmitted to a remote location.

    Abstract: The present invention disclosed and claimed herein comprises an apparatus and method for curing and drying coatings on nails of the human hand. A housing (12) is provided having two elongated solid sides (14), one elongated solid top (15), two solid ends (16), and an elongated underneath side (18) having a length. Restrictive air vents (22) are provided along the length of the elongated underneath side (18) of the housing (12), such that the housing (12) and air vents (22) define a substantially closed air pressure chamber (34). An ultraviolet light source (20) is disposed along the underneath side (18). A flat surface (26) running the length of the underneath side (18) is disposed a distance beneath the restrictive air vents (22) and the ultraviolet light source (20).
