  • Patent number: 6126714
Abstract: The invention is directed to a process for dehydrating and recycling back into a BOF converter wet BOF scrubber sludge to produce a steelmaking revert having an improved flow rate when handled in a recycle stream. Wet sludge is combined with hot BOF slag to provide a slag/sludge mixture. The wet sludge causes the mixture to have a moisture content greater than 10% water by weight, and the hot slag, having a temperature below the molten liquid state, vaporizes the water in the mixture and reduces the moisture content to about 4% water by weight or less. The dehydrated mixture has improved flow rate properties when it is recycled as a steelmaking revert.

  • Patent number: 6004786
Abstract: A carrier for immobilizing lipase is prepared by bonding a silane coupling agent having a carboxylic-ester group to an inorganic carrier. Preferred silane coupling agents are .gamma.-methacryl oxypropyltrimethoxy silane, .gamma.-acetoxypropyltrimethoxy silane or .gamma.-acryloxypropyltrimethoxy silane. The inorganic carrier can be kaolinite, porous glass, bentonite, silica gel, alumina, silica, silica-alumina hydroxy apatite or calcium phosphate gel. Lipase is immobilized by mixing lipase with the inorganic carrier containing the bound silane coupling agent, filtering the resultant mixture and drying the filtered mixture. Functional groups of the lipase are bonded to the carboxylic-ester group of the silane coupling agent.

  • Patent number: 5899356
Abstract: An eating utensil is provided for holding pieces of food. The eating utensil is provided in the form of gripping tongs (1) with gripper arms (2-3) which can be moved towards each other against a restoring force from an open position into a gripping position. Also provided is a dispenser for the eating utensil. The dispenser holds a plurality of such eating utensils in a stacked relationship within the dispenser. A lowest one of the eating utensils in the dispenser is held in place by the combination of stop elements on the dispenser and catch devices on the utensils. While held in this manner, the lowest eating utensil protrudes partially from the dispensing shaft of the dispenser. The lowest eating utensil therefore can be pulled out of the dispenser for use. The next eating utensil, which was above the lowest eating utensil, then falls to the position of the lowest eating utensil.

  • Patent number: 5853444
Abstract: A porous permeable molded body designed especially for use in the removal of diesel soot particles from the exhaust gas of diesel engines is disclosed. The body includes an alternatingly closed honeycombed body made of silicon carbide and possessing the following features:______________________________________ wall thickness: 1.25 .+-. 0.5 mm; porosity: 55 to 60%; average pore diameter: 25 to 70 .mu.m; specific permeability: 20 to 100 nPm. ______________________________________In the production method, a starting powder of silicon or a mixture of silicon with portions of silicon carbide and/or carbon is combined with an organic binding agent that can be coked and molded into a green body. This is then subjected to a coking fire in an inert-gas atmosphere; the molded body obtained in this manner is then heated in the presence of nitrogen or a nitrogenous inert gas to a temperature where free silicon is converted with the carbon, in a reaction firing, to silicon carbide.

  • Patent number: 5812059
Abstract: A system and corresponding method for enhancing hygiene in a food handling environment include an indicator to be worn by a worker in the food handling area, an activating device located outside of the food handling area, a hand cleaning station located proximate or within the food handling area (remote from the restroom), and a deactivating device operatively associated with the hand cleaning station. Upon leaving the food handling area, the indicator worn by the worker is activated when the worker enters a predetermined area proximate the activating device. Thereafter, the indicator is deactivated by the deactivating device only when it is determined that the worker has utilized the hand cleaning station proximate the food handling area. In such a manner, the prior art problem of worker contamination occurring between, for example, the restroom and food handling area is substantially eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5809304
Abstract: A program designing method which makes it possible to efficiently design an application-oriented program without errors irrespective of levels of technical skills of engineers. In this program designing method, all types of definition items which are processed by a processing system for specific business use are extracted. Program segments (ASL) with a single function are generated in a form in which a corresponding definition item is used as a keyword and ASLs are control-independent of each other in such a way that each definition item is associated with one ASL. A control program (FAL) is separately generated which combines ASLs with each other in an organic manner by operating and controlling the group of ASLs. Each necessary ASL is activated by use of an array of a plurality of link statements included in FAL, and a source program which satisfies required business processing functions is produced by merging FAL and ASL into one.
