  • Patent number: 6580455
Abstract: An improved image sensing array including a semiconductive substrate having formed therein an array of discrete substrate areas organized in rows and columns. The array of areas is segmented into a plurality of blocks, each including a sub-array of the areas. At least one of the rows of each block has at least one reader cell formed therein, and the remaining rows of the block have photosensor cells formed in each area thereof. Each column of each block forms a column block including a plurality of photosensor cells, and a node line communicatively coupling each photosensor cell of the column block to an associated reader cell. A row address line is coupled to each photosensor cell in a particular row of the array. A column bit line is coupled to each reader cell in a particular column of the array. A block select line is coupled to each reader cell in a particular row of the array containing reader cells.

  • Patent number: 6447508
Abstract: An electrode catheter assembly for ablation of obstructive material formed within and around a stent inserted within a lumen includes an elongate flexible tube having a distal end and a proximal end, and an electrode assembly attached to the distal end of the tube. The electrode assembly includes: a first electrode formed by a cylindrical body defining a longitudinal axis and having a first end, and an opposite second end, the body having a plurality of slits formed therein, each of the slits extending parallel to the axis from a corresponding first point proximate the first end to a corresponding second point proximate the second end, the slits defining a plurality of elongated deformable segments; and a second electrode disposed along the axis at a distance from the first electrode. A spacer means, disposed between the first and second electrodes, is operative to physically separate and electrically insulate the first electrode from the second electrode.

  • Patent number: 6313964
Abstract: In a disk drive system, a servo controller is operative to perform a process of inhibiting write operations for writing data to tracks of a disk during a head settling period following a track seek operation. During each of a first plurality of sampling intervals transpiring during a first time period, the servo controller determines a present position value indicative of the position of the head during the present sampling interval, and also determines a predicted position value indicative of the position of the head during a subsequent sampling interval. Also during each of the first plurality of sampling intervals, the servo controller determines: whether the present position value is within a first error margin from the center of a target track; and whether the predicted position value is within the first error margin. If the present position value and the predicted position value are both within the first error margin, the servo controller enables write operations.

  • Patent number: 6226012
Abstract: A method which evaluates each sequence of pixels provided in a polygon to determine whether the pixels vary linearly, selects sequences of adjacent pixels which vary linearly, determines a processing factor for the sequence of pixels, processes only every one of a selected number of pixels of the sequence, and interpolates the data for pixels of the sequence between the processed pixels after the processed pixels have been processed.

  • Patent number: 6226370
Abstract: A pager system connectable to the existing telephone wiring for activation through the normal residential DTMF telephone instruments, the system including a plurality of pager devices, each connected to the phone line between the tip and ring wires, and each pager including an identification circuit to allow it be individually addressed by a person using the phone, whether or not connection has been made through the central office. For use of the system, the keypad of the telephone instrument is used to enter a sequence of characters (e.g., symbols as well as numbers), which comprise an activation sequence. The DTMF activation sequence includes three parts: a header, a pager address (pager identification PID) and a signal identification (SID). The header portion is a sequence which is not used by the central office as part of its available services. The header portion is a system enabling signal that distinguishes the pager system from central office sequences.

  • Patent number: 6196547
Abstract: A process of dealing and drawing cards is provided wherein a player hand including N cards is dealt to the player from a computer card deck. An opponent hand including N cards is dealt to the opponent from the deck. The player and the opponent are provided with opportunity to draw cards. A gaming system determines which cards of the initial opponent hand to hold and which to discard using a play strategy-lookup table in accordance with the present invention. The strategy look-up table is addressed using an address set including all possible hands that could be dealt in an N card poker game. Each address of the address set stores a corresponding optimal hold scenario which provides information indicating which of the particular N cards of a hand to hold and which to discard in order have the greatest probability of winning. Cards are discarded from the initial opponent hand according to the look up table.

  • Patent number: 5845632
Abstract: A vent damper is provided for limiting the flow of ambient air through the central core of a hot water heater having a combustion chamber, the central core forming an exhaust port leading to an exhaust duct for evacuation of exhaust gases from the combustion chamber. The vent damper includes an annular base having an upwardly facing opening forming a passageway therethrough for passage of the exhaust gases from the exhaust port to the exhaust duct. A poppet is pivotally supported above the annular base means to pivot between a closed position closing the passageway and a open position opening the passageway. The poppet is configured such that the exhaust gases generated in the combustion chamber and passing out of the exhaust port cause the poppet to pivot into the open position such that the gases may flow through the passageway.

  • Patent number: 5806862
Abstract: Apparatus for deterring unauthorized use and removal of steel or steel-and-plastic constructed swivel-wheel shopping carts by preventing the free movement of one or more of the installed wheels after the cart is moved a predetermined distance. A braking device, fully contained within a wheel, measures the distance traveled beyond an activating point by counting the number of rotations made by the cart wheel and compares the count to a preprogrammed stored attribute that defines the allowable distance the cart is allowed to travel once outside the shopping facility. Depending on the direction the cart is travelling, the counter is "armed" or "disarmed" when the cart passes over low-frequency magnetic arrays placed at the entry and/or exit of the shopping facility.
