  • Patent number: 8292112
Abstract: An aluminum container for dispensing beverage, includes a can having a cylindrical side wall, and transverse top and bottom walls. A pull tab mechanism is provided on the top wall to effect opening of the container. The transverse top wall has an upstanding peripheral rim, with one or two interrupted wall portions, one of said portions forming a spout for pouring the contents, or drinking from the container directly. The other of the interrupted wall portions provides a clearance space for facilitating the insertion of the user's finger beneath the pull tab in readiness for opening the container. The bottom wall of the container is provided with a removable appliqué, which may contain printed text/pictorial information, or information in the nature of a store or manufacturer's product coupon.

  • Patent number: 8286737
Abstract: A ball drive assembly for a vertical takeoff and land aircraft of the type having a plurality of supports extending outwardly from a central aircraft body. The ball drive assembly for one of the supports has a ball wheel housing containing a spherical, rigid ball, a drive shaft extending into the ball, a first driver for initiating rotating movement of the ball with respect to the ball wheel housing, and a second driver for initiating swiveling left and right movement of the ball so that it twists laterally of the ball wheel housing. Two motors are connected to the drivers, for operating them to rotate the ball with respect to the ball wheel housing, and effect both straight line movement and turning movement of the assembly.

  • Patent number: 8221300
Abstract: A centrifuge having two arcuate slots to receive resilient, bendable mounting flanges that each carry a plurality of test tubes in side by side relation. The resilience of the mounting flanges enables them to flex and assume either the curvature of the slot, or a linear configuration enabling the flanges to be suspended in a flat condition, such as on a test rack. The arrays of test tubes is attached to the flanges via living hinges that enable the flexing to occur. The advantages are that simplified identification of individual test tubes, as well as reduced likelihood of intermixing of spillage are realized.

  • Patent number: 8127492
Abstract: A barrier mechanism for providing selective access to a passageway on the floor of a lobby, room or pavilion. It utilizes a frame and carriage assembly thereon, a panel which is swivelable to selectively overlie and block the passageway, and an electric motor which powers the carriage assembly and moves the panel. A group of power components, including a driver operated by the motor and other linkages on the frame, provide simultaneous translating movement of the carriage assembly and panel and swiveling of the panel, synchronized to bring about a “wrap-around” effect to the latter. Optionally, the panel can be locked in either its blocking or its access position. Important safety features are incorporated in the mechanism, to prevent inadvertent injury to passageway personnel.

  • Patent number: 8113219
Abstract: A dispenser for storing and applying a supply of cosmetic powder, includes a container and closure cap. The closure cap carries an applicator brush that is manually advanceable or retractable with respect to the closure cap. The mouth of the container is covered by an apertured transverse wall and a lid thereon, the lid normally blocking communication between the powder in the container and the brush. When the closure cap is removed, the lid can be manually lifted by means of a hinged connection, to as to expose a small accumulation of powder that has adhered to the transverse wall. The applicator brush is then advanced, and used in the manner of a dabber to pick up particles of the powder and apply them to the user. Simplified components and assembly characterize the completed unit.

  • Patent number: 8109406
Abstract: A beverage container includes a can body having a side wall, a neck portion of reduced diameter, a closure lid and an anchor structure on the closure lid. The anchor structure is offset with respect to the center of the lid. A pull tab has a mounting hole which fits onto the anchor structure. One end of the pull tab has a grip handle, and the other end has a puncturing nose. The pull tab is turnable on the anchor structure, and thus also turnable with respect to the closure lid. The pull tab is of a length whereby it normally just fits between the opposite locations of a peripheral groove on the closure lid. The pull tab can be manually turned from a first position overlying the closure lid, to a second position wherein it overhangs one part of the peripheral groove. The construction thus provides an extended handle length to permit the user to more easily grasp and raise the pull tab, and open the container, for use.

  • Patent number: 7997286
Abstract: A cosmetic compact providing a molded plastic base, a first cover and combined second cover and grip handle, all disposed over the base. The first cover is hinged to the base. The combined second cover and grip handle are selectively removable from the base, and carry an applicator device which when stored, is disposed between the first cover and base. The arrangement enables the user to quickly open the first cover and immediately remove and manipulate the combined second cover and grip handle, and attached applicator device, for application of cosmetic to the face or body. An especially neat, compact construction thereby is realized.

  • Patent number: 7503331
Abstract: A dual dispensing mode cosmetic compact for use with a cosmetic powder puff, cosmetic applicator sponge, or cosmetic brush, has a base member with an annular lip, a well to hold a cake of cosmetic material, and a closure lid receivable onto the base member. A scraper member located adjacent the well is engageable with the upper surface of the cosmetic cake. Finger-engageable structures adjacent to the well are turnable thereon, and there is a driving connection between the finger-engageable structures and the scraper member, which effects corresponding turning movement of the latter during turning of the finger-engageable structures. In one mode, the scraper member shaves off limited quantities of the upper surface of the cosmetic cake to produce controlled amounts of dust-like cosmetic powder particulates therefrom. In another mode, the scraper member is shifted by the user, to a second position remote from and outside of the annular lip.

  • Patent number: 6139724
Abstract: A process is described for filtration of fluids, particularly of heterodisperse fluids like beer, in which a cleaning cycle of the MF modules is always carried out when the transmembrane pressure exceeds a pre-set pressure which has been selected to be equal to the optimal trans-membrane pressure for the particular fluid to be filtered as regards its analytical appearance. In beer filtration this value is preferably set at 1.5 bar. The microfiltration facility is equipped with numerous MF modules 5, arrayed in series and parallel; with a device for cleansing the MF modules 5; and with a measuring device 3 for recording trans-membrane pressure, attached to a control device 7, which, upon attaining the pre-set trans-membrane pressure, interrupts the filtration process and starts a cleansing cycle going.

  • Patent number: 6132126
Abstract: A ball-applicator device for applying a cosmetic substance to the skin of a user, has a squeeze container in the form of an upright bottle which is molded of resilient plastic substance. The bottle or container has a relatively broad bottom surface by means of which it can be placed upright on a supporting surface, and has a tubular side wall construction which is adapted to be gripped by and held in the hand for manipulation and squeezing. The side wall construction can have generally the configuration of a pistol grip of mostly cylindrical cross section, being circular at its top. An externally threaded applicator head is disposed on the circular top of the side wall construction of the bottle. The applicator head has a reduced-diameter rim portion constituting an inwardly facing socket, in which a ball applicator member is held captive and exposed to the exterior for engagement with the skin of the user for the purpose of transferring cosmetic substance thereto from the bottle.
