  • Patent number: 5403787
Abstract: Extruded low-expansion ceramic honeycombs comprising beta-spodumene solid solution as the principal crystal phase and with less than 7 weight percent of included mullite are produced by compounding an extrusion batch comprising a lithium aluminosilicate glass powder and a clay additive, extruding a green honeycomb body from the batch, and drying and firing the green extruded cellular honeycomb to crystallize the glass and clay into a low-expansion spodumene ceramic honeycomb body.

  • Patent number: 5306457
Abstract: A method and die apparatus for manufacturing a honeycomb body of rhombic cell cross-section by extrusion through an extrusion die of triangular cell discharge slot configuration, the die incorporating feedholes at selected slot intersections only, such that slot segments communicating directly with the feedholes discharge web material and slot segments not so connected do not discharge web material, whereby a rhombic cell cross-section in the extruded body is provided.

  • Patent number: 4541855
Abstract: A method of forming a glass or ceramic product by the direct casting of a non-aqueous suspension of a particulate oxide such as fumed SiO.sub.2 or Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 into a final product configuration, wherein a non-aqueous oxide suspension of limited stability against gelation is cast into shape, permitted to gel, and then dried to provide an integral monolith which can be sintered or otherwise processed to a clear glass or non-porous ceramic product, is described.
