  • Patent number: 5853189
Abstract: The invention is a cart assembly having an upper and a lower deck whose body may be assembled in a single procedure using only one hand and whose body including the wheels can collapse to fit behind the driver's seat of a standard cab version of any size pickup truck. Specifically, a plurality of spacing members rotatably connected between the upper deck and lower deck rotate to alternately collapse and expand the cart. The cart is held in a fixed position by a brace member disposed diagonally between the upper deck and lower deck in the expanded position of the cart, and which is disposed in parallel to the upper deck and lower deck when the cart assumes its collapsed position. The brace member fixes the relative positions of the upper deck and the lower deck as the brace member has a length (and thus radius of curvature) unequal to the length (and thus radius of curvature) of the spacing member.

  • Patent number: 5836194
Abstract: A portable tube-bending machine for receiving a length of tubular material 10 and repeatedly crimping the length of tubular material 10 to form an elbow. It includes a so-called toggle assembly 24, a carriage assembly 70 and an operating shaft assembly 50, all being movably mounted to a framework assembly 15. Operating shaft assembly 50 is operatively connected to sequentially actuate movement in toggle assembly 24 and carriage assembly 70. Outer die elements 28, 29, and 30, are movably mounted to toggle assembly 24 and adapted to crimp tubular material 10 by crimping it against an inner die 26. Carriage assembly 70 engages tubular material 10 and induces lengthwise movement relative to framework assembly 15 along the axis of the length of the tubular material 10.

  • Patent number: 5799977
Abstract: This invention relates to a gas generator for a seat belt retracting power generating device to supply power to an emergency retracting device of a seat belt retractor, and aims to reliably ignite an ignition agent and a driving agent by concentrating flames into a small-diameter passage when a primer is ignited, quickly supplying heat to a gas generating agent chamber, and preventing the ignition agent and driving agent within the gas generating agent chamber from being damped.

  • Patent number: 5791334
Abstract: A heat pack for use as a warmer mattress for infants is formed of a flexible container at least partly filled with a supercooled aqueous salt solution which is selectively trigger-activated to produce heat by exothermic crystallization. The container is compartmentalized, being divided into several compartments by a heat-sealing arrangement of upper and lower joined halves. When crystallization is initiated by activating the trigger, crystallization is propagated quickly into the several compartments, from each of which heat is thereby liberated, the compartments being shaped such that the crystallizing solution in each compartment is effectively trapped therein to substantially prevent saddle-bagging, and whereby the heat pack reliably and safely supports an infant upon the warmer mattress. The upper and lower halves are heat-sealed together in various possible heat seal patterns defining the compartments, as by sealed margins and heat-seal extensions extending inwardly from the peripherally margins.

  • Patent number: 5786295
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for producing a metallic catalyst carrier used for a catalytic convertor for an automobile, for example, and calcines a metallic catalyst carrier element obtained by alternately winding or laminating metallic plates in vacuum, and in integrally combining the connecting parts of the metallic plates by diffused junction, the metallic catalyst carrier element being calcines at 1200.degree. C. or above and a pressure of 1 Pa to 10 Pa, preferably l.5 Pa to 10 Pa, to obtain a strong metallic catalyst carrier having oxidization resistance.

  • Patent number: 5779219
Abstract: The invention particularly relates to a solenoid valve used in a control fluid, and one end of a center pole on the side opposite from a plunger is covered with theend face of a housing, and a communication passage is formed in the housing to communicate a through hole of the center pole with an opening formed on the housing on the side of the plunger. The communication passage has an end face groove and at least one side face groove on the end face and the side face of the housing. A volume of the side face groove is larger than a variation in volume of a space between the plunger and the center pole due to the movement of the plunger, and it is 2.5 times or more of the variation in volume of the space between the plunger and the center pole due to the movement of the plunger.

  • Patent number: 5774904
Abstract: A device for automatically closing a toilet bowl cover upon flushing of the toilet has an elongated housing with a water outlet port formed therethrough and a water inlet port connectable to a source of water. The forward end has a central aperture for passage of a piston rod, and also supports the device in a substantially horizontal position within the toilet tank, above the level of the water. The rearwardly directed end is connected to a water inlet source when in normal use position, and the other end is supported from the front of the tank in a substantially horizontal position. A piston is disposed longitudinally within the housing, the piston rod terminating rearwardly in a piston head and extending forwardly through the aperture in the forward end of the housing, adjacent to and above the upper edge of the toilet tank, beyond the tank wall to contact the upright cover of the toilet bowl.

  • Patent number: 5771089
Abstract: A progressive spectacle lens is described which has a convex aspherical front surface 1 and a concave aspherical back surface 2, of which at least one surface contributes to the power increase from the distance portion 3 over the progression corridor 4 to the reading portion 5. The progressive spectacle lens in accordance with the present invention is characterized by the fact that the surface 1 or the surfaces contributing to the power increase are designed in such a way that the main portion of astigmatism is transposed into an area 3 in which the power practically does not increase and by the fact that the surface astigmatism of the two surfaces 1 and 2 substantially cancel each other out in these areas 3 or 6. (See FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 5753849
Abstract: Time delay apparatus for providing a firing action at the end of a predetermined time-delay period. It is used with a source of fluid under pressure, and defines a fluid-receiving chamber for accumulating the fluid when released from the source. A flow controller is connected between the source and the fluid-receiving chamber for providing fluid communication between the source and the fluid-receiving chamber. A triggering assembly initiates flow of fluid from the source through the flow controller and into the fluid-receiving chamber. A piston-form firing pin in the fluid-receiving chamber is actuated by shear pin release for movement to an actuating position for desired firing action when a predetermined pressure has accumulated in the fluid-receiving chamber at the end of the predetermined time-delay period.
