  • Patent number: 7814669
Abstract: A bow sight that utilizes fiber optic wave guides as a basis for collecting ambient light and providing multiple sighting spots within the archer's field of view. The terminal ends of the fiber optic wave guides are positioned so as to have images thereof reflected on a moveable reflective plane (objective optic) within the bow sight. The multiple aiming spots thus reflected in the bow sight provide the archer with sighting spots for targets over a range of distances. Each of the individual fiber optic wave guides collects ambient light and terminates in a terminal block that may be varied in its position so as to individually adjust the reflected image of the aiming spot. Various mechanisms within the fiber optic terminal block for adjusting the position of the ambient light wave guide are also described. The bow sight provides the advantages of multispot ambient light fiber optic systems with the advantages of reflective (reflex) sighting systems.

  • Patent number: 7610791
Abstract: Systems and methods are described that carry out an intelligent, variable, time-gain control (TGC) of signal amplification in a long-range, guided-wave inspection and monitoring system. The systems and methods compensate for signal attenuation over the longer distances that guided-wave inspection techniques are capable of operating with. The sensor signal received is divided into relevant frequency bands that are each subjected to a variable TGC through separate variable gain amplifiers (VGAs). The gain selection is processor controlled through the use of a digital look-up table (LUT) stored with predetermined gain functions and/or data that are both time and frequency specific. The signal components are re-combined and digitized for further signal analysis and defect detection. The LUT is established through one or more methods including a weld signal amplitude equalization approach and a background noise equalization approach.

  • Patent number: 7565252
Abstract: A method and associated algorithms for identifying and distinguishing geometric feature signals from defect signals in the NDE of longitudinal structures. The method includes the steps of collecting an interrogation signal (including reflected components) from a longitudinal structure under evaluation and comparing it with a selected reference signal from a known geometric feature maintained in a database. The comparison involves a determination of the signals phase. Same phase signals identify the source as a geometric feature, while opposite phase signals identify the source as a defect. The comparison involves the steps of gating each of the signals and creating an array of correlation values between points on each. The correlation values are analyzed and a determination (based on comparing maximum and minimum correlation values) is made of the signal phases. A reliability factor may be determined by comparison of the correlation values and the maximum and minimum thereof.

  • Patent number: 7557710
Abstract: A system for tracking and locating surgical items and objects in an operating room environment that incorporates two-stage functionality. A first stage provides mechanisms for tracking objects using radio frequency (RF) tags that are positioned on or in conjunction with every surgical item and object so as to be tracked by a number of RF transceivers located about the operating room. In addition to integrating RF ID components, the tags integrate hard spherical components that are easily identifiable by ultrasonic detection. If an object is “lost” from the tracking system functionality (RF tracking), the system operator may review a last known location and movement path presented on a display and thereafter utilize an ultrasonic sub-system in a localized area to detect the exact location of the missing object or item. Narrowing the location of a “lost” object is facilitated by the use of one or more LED laser pointers that are directed through the last known path of the object and to its last known location.
