  • Patent number: 4602892
Abstract: The present invention envisions a concentric structural combination of elements, consisting of an elongate core component, which is terminated at each end on the internal surface of a chambered coupling, and a elongate sheath component which consists of an interlaced configuration of assemblies of non-metallic filamentary elements embedded in a polymer matrix, the sheath component being bonded at each end to the external surface of the coupling, the load-elongation characteristics of the core and sheath components being chosen so as to ensure that both components share substantially in the load-bearing under the working load conditions, with at least 50% of the load being borne by the aggregate of the non-metallic elements, and the sheath and matrix being disposed so as to substantially cover and protect the core and coupling components.

  • Patent number: 4601785
Abstract: A felt for use in the press section of papermaking machines. The felt consists of a woven base preferably of two layers of threads extending in the machine direction of the felt and cross-machine direction threads interconnect the machine-direction threads, the woven base having a batt needed onto at least one of its faces. The felt is manufactured to be installed in flat form but after its installation in the machine its ends are joined together to form an endless cloth with the aid of a seam known per se. A flap of the batt or batts is arranged to cover the seam area. The invention also concerns a method of manufacturing and installing the felt in the press section of papermaking machines.

  • Patent number: 4401137
Abstract: A forming fabric for papermaking machines is produced by weaving a conventional fabric with warp yarns extending from each of two ends. A selected number of extended warps are cut with each having an adjacent extending warp. Loops are formed with the extending warps and the ends of extending warps are rewoven through provided fills to a position near the cut warps and leaving ends of the warps projecting from the surface of the fabric. The loops are interlaced and a join pin inserted. The projecting ends are pulled to collapse the loops about the join pin.

  • Patent number: 4210396
Abstract: Information on a patient chart is imaged onto a first portion of a dielectric receptor sheet simultaneously with, prior to or subsequent to exposure of a second portion of the receptor sheet to object-modulated X-rays in an ionography imaging chamber. The sheet has an outer layer consisting of polyvinyl chloride or polyethylene terephthalate and is brought into intimate contact with a chart at a station where the chart and the overlapping first portion of the sheet are exposed to electromagnetic radiation issuing from an electronic flash unit. This results in the formation of a latent image of the information on the first sheet portion, and such image is thereupon converted into a visible image, either on the receptor sheet or on a separate sheet, in accordance with a xerographic developing technique by resorting to toner particles. The sheet can be reused by neutralizing its charge, e.g., by heating its layer to a temperature approximately 10.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4200179
Abstract: Apparatus for increasing the distance between pairs of coaxial plain cigarettes has a rotary drum-shaped conveyor with a rotor which carries two annuli of axially movable segment-shaped holders provided with peripheral flutes for plain cigarettes. A cam with two endless grooves cooperates with rollers followers which are affixed to shifting rods for the holders to move successive aligned holders nearer to each other during travel toward a first transfer station where the flutes receive plain cigarettes and to thereupon move the holders apart during travel toward a second transfer station where the cigarettes are transferred into the flutes of a rotary assembly conveyor and are spaced apart to an extent which suffices for insertion of filter mouthpieces of double unit length. The holders are guided by tie rods which are reciprocable in a collar of the rotor.

  • Patent number: 4050761
Abstract: A connector for joining a tap conductor to a run conductor of an underground cable system without removing the insulation from the run conductor. The connector includes a body of conductive material adapted to be connected to a tap conductor and having a piercing member for passage through the insulation of a run conductor. A clamp is provided to couple the piercing member to the run conductor. The clamp is adjustable for bringing the piercing member into tight interengagement with the run conductor and then supplying sufficient force to direct it through the insulation of the run conductor and into electrical communication with the interior thereof. The piercing member has a hollow cup-shaped configuration to minimize the force required to penetrate the insulation, provide maximum contact area for current transfer with low unit pressure on the conductor strands and small sealing area.
