  • Patent number: 4295319
Abstract: A floor panel for use in elevated floor assemblies having a bottom metal sheet and a top metal sheet sandwiched on each side of a solid noncompressible core. The bottom has an upwardly turned side deflected away from the side of the core forming a first shoulder on the upper edge thereof and the top has a downwardly deflected side spaced from the first shoulder forming a second shoulder such that they are spaced, non-overlapping sides. A flexible edge member having an outer shoulder engaging the first shoulder of said bottom metal sheet and an inner channel formed longitudinally thereof to receive the downwardly deflected edge of the top metal sheet is wedged between the top metal sheet edge and the bottom metal sheet edge and is locked in by the first and second shoulder on the bottom and top sheet respectively.

  • Patent number: 4290842
Abstract: A felt paper dispenser and tampers assembly for dispensing and tamping felt paper on a built-up roof in a single operation. The device has a tamping roller which supports the machine and has adjustable conically shaped hubs which grasp a roll of felt paper forward of the tamper roller and dispenses the paper as the device is rolled along the surface to be covered. A solvent is dispensed onto a brush to clean the surface of the tamper roller to provide a smooth, uninterrupted surface for smoothing the paper onto the heated tar in a single motion.

  • Patent number: 4281734
Abstract: A multi-function control system for generating control signals in response to the movement of an operator's body is disclosed. An arrangement of the multi-function control system for controlling the speed and direction of a wheelchair (12) includes a mirror (16) for mounting on the head of the operator, a housing (20) attached to the wheelchair, a light source (26) within the housing for shining on the mirror, light sensors (30, 32, 34, and 36) for sensing the light reflected by the mirror, and a control circuit (38) for driving the wheelchair motors (70 and 72) in response to the output signals of the light sensors. The housing forms an opening facing toward the mirror when the operator's head is in the normal forward position. The control circuit includes an input (39) that responds to the output signals of the light sensors, a signal processing circuit (43), and an output (53) which responds to the signal processing circuit.

  • Patent number: 4277091
Abstract: Disclosed are coupling joints for interconnecting the ends of metal conduit sections having plastic liners to form a continuously lined conduit and methods for making such joints. The opposed open ends of lined pipe are fitted with flanged end face collars which cover the end faces of the pipe and the open ends are then joined in an abutting relationship within a coupling sleeve by interference fit coupling. The coupling sleeve carries an internal sealing band which mates with the outer edges of the opposed collars to fully seal the joint and the ends of the coupling sleeve are radially crimped into a corresponding groove in the pipe to mechanically interlock the joint. Fully lined couplings are also formed by fitting an end face collar in the pin end of one lined conduit and interference fitting the pin end into an unlined bell on a lined conduit.

  • Patent number: 4270505
Abstract: Disclosed is a fuel vaporizer system for forming a mixture of vaporized fuel and air and injecting the mixture into the intake manifold of a spark ignition internal combustion engine. The vaporizer unit includes a canister containing a controlled liquid level of fuel and a foraminous body partially submerged in the liquid fuel to promote rapid vaporization of the fuel. The canister contains a dividing wall above the foraminous body so that air drawn into the canister must pass through the foraminous body and mix with the vaporized fuel. The vaporization unit functionally parallels the conventional carburetor and includes means to control the flow of gas through the vaporizer and control the pressure in the intake manifold.

  • Patent number: 4268756
Abstract: An optical transceiver for transmitting optical data to an optics communication channel and receiving optical data from the optics communication channel is disclosed. The transceiver includes a light sensor, a light emitter, and an interface between the optical transceiver and the optics communication channel. The light sensor is substantially optically isolated from the light emitter. Electrical data is transmitted responsive to the light sensor, and sufficient electric current is supplied to the light emitter responsive to received electrical data.

  • Patent number: 4264129
Abstract: Disclosed is an optics cable including a plurality of optically transmissive fibers with the portions adjacent the terminal ends thereof clad with a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and a fluoroplastic. The copolymer contains a minor proportion of a coupling agent which permits bonding of the clad fiber ends together and to terminal hardware so that the ends of the fibers are rigidly secured in a fixed relationship with each other and the terminal hardware.

  • Patent number: 4261076
Abstract: Disclosed is a unitary body comprised of relatively rigid complementary halves interconnected along their common edges by a flexible hinge. The laterally extending body portions are of reduced thickness with respect to the joined edges so that upon folding the complementary halves about the hinge, an elongated handle is formed having a channel extending therethrough parallel with the hinge. One laterally extending body member carries a pin extending therefrom which mates with an aperture in the opposing complementary half and bridges the channel. The pin is inserted through an aperture in a card-like structure near a corner thereof so that the unitary body may pivot about the corner of the card-like structure.

  • Patent number: 4261785
Abstract: Disclosed is a pipe wrapper and cleaner or similar apparatus which includes a rotatable drum with an axial linear slot or gap therein which may be supported on and rotated about an elongated body such as a pipe by casters carried by the drum and engaging the elongated body to support the drum concentrically thereabout. An outwardly projecting flange encircles the drum with a gap therein coincident with the gap in the drum. The drum is rotated by a pair of drive gears powered by synchronous motors and placed circumferentially apart by an arcuate distance greater than the arcuate length of the gap in the flange.
