Abstract: Segregation of antiperspirant actives suspended in anhydrous compositions employing ester oils or non-volatile silicone oils having a refractive index of at least 1.5, preferably together with an alcohol oil, gelled with a fibre-forming amide gellant can be inhibited by including a segregation inhibitor, especially an arylene-alkylene block copolymer, such as a tri-block copolymer e.g. a styrene/ethylenebutylene/styrene copolymer or a styrene/butylene copolymer.

Abstract: The design of the spray nozzle in an aerosol dispenser controls the characteristics of the spray that is produced. In a nozzle that comprises the elements of a multiplicity of inlet channels leading to a swirl chamber and an outlet orifice, the perception of wetness of a spray, such as an aqueous alcoholic deodorant spray, can be reduced by dimensioning the respective elements so that the sum of the widths of the inlet channels is less than the diameter of the swirl chamber and at least 1.5 times the diameter of the outlet orifice and the outlet orifice has a diameter of at least 0.3 mm together with the inlet channels being short, such as less than 0.5 mm. The new nozzle is especially suitable for spraying compositions having a low volatile organic carbon content and compositions comprising a significant proportion of water.

Abstract: The present invention relates to emulsifier system comprising food-grade gelled particles and the preparation of particle stabilised emulsions with this emulsifier. The emulsifier system can be used in any fields of applications, such as food products, home and personal care applications and pharmaceutical applications.
Abstract: Improved oil-in-water emulsions are provided and a method for their manufacture. In particular, the emulsions comprise a means to control delivery of oil-soluble or water-soluble actives in a core comprising a liquid oil or gel oil continuous phase, which actives can be delivered with improved deposition to surfaces such as, in particular, the skin, gastro-intestinal tract and that defined by the oral cavity. The emulsions are also noted for their improved stability.

Abstract: A volatilizable substance can be sampled from a surface using a hand-held sampler employing a probe that comprises a supply tube in fluid communication with a pressurized gas supply and an outlet proximate to a target surface, a recovery tube having an inlet proximate to the target surface and being in fluid communication with a collector or analyzer and a skirt of varied depth. The probe is brought into contact with the surface, preferably in at least three points, gas flows out through the supply tube onto the surface, the volatilizable substance is volatilized, uptaken in to the gas and a fraction of the gas flows back through the recovery tube to the collector or analyzer, the remainder flowing under the skirt to prevent ingress of contaminants.

Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus suitable for preparing a variety of emulsion type of food products. The apparatus comprises a source unit (a) for components that are used to make a base product and a source unit (b) for post-added ingredients. It is preferred that the apparatus comprises separate mixers for each family of post-added ingredients.
Abstract: A static ion-exchange process for the preparation of a polynuclear Al species comprising the treatment of an aqueous aluminum chloride solution with a hydroxide-form ion-exchange resin at a temperature of from 5° C. to 60° C. for a period of at least 30 minutes.
Abstract: A vibrating hair brush for enhanced detangling of hair, comprising a head with a base and a bristle-bearing pad, the pad comprising a motor and a vibrating actuator for generating a vibration movement in the pad, the pad being pivotally attached to the base such that the pad pivots about a pivot axis which is substantially transverse the general longitudinal axis of the hair brush and a method for detangling using said brush.
