Patent number: 5786741Abstract: A voice coil actuator is disclosed having a housing, a pole piece, a magnet structure and a coil. The housing is cylindrical and defines a vertical axis. The housing further defines a base portion, an outer wall extending axially from the base portion and a top plate extending radially inward from the outer wall. The base portion defines an annular channel coaxial within the base portion. The pole piece is coaxially disposed within the housing. A gap is defined between the top plate and the pole piece. The coil is moveably suspended coaxially within the gap. The magnet structure is fabricated from rectangular shaped radially magnetized permanent magnets. The magnets are arranged in a polygonal shape and disposed in the channel.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1995Date of Patent: July 28, 1998Assignee: Aura Systems, Inc.Inventor: Emanuel Leibzon

Patent number: 5768395Abstract: A field coil actuator includes a magnetic flux conductive material case, an electrical current conductive field coil and two electrical current conductive moving coils uniquely arranged. The case has a first surface and a continuous channel disposed in said first surface. The channel has a pair of opposing walls. The field coil is disposed within the channel between the walls so that a gap remains between the walls above the field coil and another gap remains between the walls below the field coil. When a current is induced in the field coil, magnetic flux is developed across the gaps. The flux is confined substantially normal to the walls of the channel. The electrical current conductive moving coils are each disposed moveably in one of the gaps such that an electrical current in the coil develops a Lorentz force on each of the coils in a direction substantially normal to the current in the moving coil and the magnetic flux to displace the moving coil in response to the current in the moving coil.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1997Date of Patent: June 16, 1998Assignee: Aura Systems, Inc.Inventors: Keith O. Stuart, Dennis C. Bulgatz

Patent number: 5734217Abstract: An induction machine having ferromagnetic conducting material in the rotor is disclosed. The machine may be used as a motor, an alternator, a generator, or an alternator/starter. The machine includes a first stator and a second stator in a symmetrical mirrored relationship to the first stator such that a gap is defined intermediate the first and second stator. A disk-shaped rotor is disposed in the gap. The rotor is substantially comprised of ferromagnetic material electrically conducting in the radial direction and may include copper bars or rings embedded within the rotor.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1996Date of Patent: March 31, 1998Assignee: Aura Systems, Inc.Inventor: Fernando B. Morinigo

Patent number: 5727076Abstract: An audio transducer is disclosed that has a piezoelectric driving element and a diaphragm having a sheet configured as a flat, curvilinear plane. A lightweight, rigid bridge element connects the piezoelectric device to the diaphragm. Several bridge configurations are shown that emphasize or reduce various characteristics such as frequency response and vertical dispersion. Also, several diaphragm configurations are disclosed in which the diaphragms have as few as a single diaphragm sheet or as many as four sheets. In each case the diaphragm sheets are configured as a flat, curvilinear plane.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1994Date of Patent: March 10, 1998Assignee: Aura Systems, Inc.Inventor: Paul W. Paddock

Patent number: 5710657Abstract: A thin film actuated mirror is disclosed having a substrate, a deformable structure mounted to the substrate, and a mirror surface interconnected to the deformable structure such that the mirror surface tilts in response to the deformation of the deformable material layer. The deformation occurs due to the effective strain gradient across the monomorph thickness which is accomplished by varying the electric field across the thickness or the strain parameter across the thickness. The deformable structure includes an active material layer fabricated from a semi-conductive ferroelectric ceramic material and two metal electrodes, each of the electrodes being mounted on opposing surfaces of the active material layer, wherein an electrical signal applied across the active material layer between the electrodes causes deformation of the active material layer.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 1995Date of Patent: January 20, 1998Assignee: Aura Systems, Inc.Inventor: Gregory Um

Patent number: 5652801Abstract: An audio transducer is disclosed that has a piezoelectric driving element and a diaphragm configured as a flat, curvilinear plane. A lightweight, rigid bridge element connects the piezoelectric device to the diaphragm. Several bridge configurations are shown that emphasize or reduce various characteristics such as frequency response and vertical dispersion. Also, several diaphragm configurations are disclosed in which the diaphragms have as few as a single diaphragm sheet or as many as four sheets or more. In each case the diaphragm sheets are configured as flat, curvilinear planes. A resonance damper is provided comprising a resilient membrane having a plurality of resilient flaps. The damper is resiliently coupled to the piezoelectric device by arranging adjacent flaps to press against opposite sides of the piezoelectric device.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1994Date of Patent: July 29, 1997Assignee: Aura Systems, Inc.Inventor: Paul W.
