  • Patent number: 6845067
Abstract: A position control method, which positions the relative position of an optical disk and an optical pickup to a position that provides the optimum value of the jitter value of the detection signal obtained by detecting the reflected light of an optical spot, has a jitter value acquisition procedure, which carries out multiple feed operations within the adjustment range of the relative position and obtains the jitter value at each feed position, an edge position setting procedure which sets as the edge positions relative positions that exceed a prescribed preset jitter threshold value, an optimum position computation procedure, which computes the optimum position that yields the optimum value for the jitter value, and an edge position setting procedure that sets the edge positions on the condition that there are at least two relative positions that yield a jitter value that exceeds the jitter threshold value.

  • Patent number: 6841318
Abstract: Levenson masks capable of minimizing the effect of optical proximity, and a method for forming a fine pattern using such Levenson masks wherein the Levenson masks have patterns where shielding regions are sandwiched between shifter regions and non-shifter regions respectively. The shifter regions and the non-shifter regions are formed to have predetermined shapes to minimize the effect of optical proximity. Specifically, aperture widths, which are defined as widths of the shifter regions and widths of the non-shifter regions perpendicular to the longitudinal directions of the linear shielding regions, are of a predetermined width for minimizing the effect of optical proximity. The Levenson masks have patterns different from each other and are used for multiple exposures.

  • Patent number: 6839319
Abstract: A ring network has first and second network connecting offices for connecting ring networks together and for dropping a signal from a terminal office. Each node of the ring network recognizes whether it is the first network connecting office based upon channel setting information. A first node, which has been recognized as being the first network connecting office, executes a squelch-table creation procedure between itself and other nodes based upon the channel setting information, thereby identifying a second node, which is the second network connecting office. The first node embeds office identification information in a squelch table of a protection channel and sends this information to the second node. The second node recognizes that it itself is the second network connecting office based upon the office identification information.

  • Patent number: 6839857
Abstract: There is disclosed an interface device which can prevent the freezing of an information processing system caused occupation of a system bus even when a wait signal outputted from the PC card is kept asserted. When the wait signal outputted from the PC card, is asserted, a timer portion 201 is activated. When the timer portion 201 detects that the wait signal is kept asserted for more than a predetermined period of time, it asserts a wait mask signal. Upon assertion of the wait mask signal, a mask portion 202 masks the wait signal from the PC card so that the wait signal to the CPU is negated even when the wait signal is kept asserted. Further, when the timer portion 201 asserts the wait mask signal, an interrupt control block/card status register 210 asserts an interrupt signal to the CPU.

  • Patent number: 6839358
Abstract: In a relaying apparatus comprising input side accommodating portions including input side queues, a plurality of output side accommodating portions including output side queues, and a switch fabric for mutually connecting the input side queues and the output side queues in a mesh form, in a time slot of a fixed period, the output side-addressed queue managers corresponding to the output side accommodating portions select a bandwidth guaranteed packet so as to guarantee a bandwidth, and output priority/non-priority signals for indicating which of the bandwidth guaranteed packet and a bandwidth non-guaranteed packet has been selected, and output demand signals of the packet. An inter-output link manager selects the packet having an empty area in the priority queue or non-priority queue of the output side accommodating portion as a destination corresponding to the packet which is demanded to be outputted.

  • Patent number: 6837662
Abstract: Non-symmetrical molded articles, such as large preforms, are handled by a handling system into which an array of molded articles are transferred from a mold having a pitch separation The handling system has an arranging station configured to receive and align a first set of molded articles, which arranging station is further configured to receive and align a second set of molded articles in an opposingly orientated direction to the first set. To reduce the pitch separation, the arranging station includes a closure mechanism that brings together the first and second sets of molded articles in a substantially linear array. Once in the linear array, a handling device operates to pick up and crate the linear array of preforms. Transfer and pick-up of the preforms can be accomplished using a multi-function, multi-axis robot that supports take-out tubes and suction pads.

  • Patent number: 6839521
Abstract: A photonic arbitrary waveform modem utilizes a bipolar coding scheme. The bipolar coding scheme includes an arbitrary waveform modem which includes a plurality of tapped delay lines and is implemented by partitioning each optical frequency chip into positive and negative segments. Signals are decoded by effectively multiplying the transmit and receive code vectors and individually summing the positive and negative tap weights. The positive and negative tap weights are differenced to recreate the transmitted signal. The bipolar coding scheme allows for the use of truly orthogonal codes which decreases the interference and reduces the probability of detection.

  • Patent number: 6836661
Abstract: In a cellular mobile communications network a mobile station is capable of receiving a downlink signal from each of a plurality of base stations and transmitting an uplink signal to the plurality of the base stations through a wireless channel. The mobile station produces a measure of signal quality of the downlink signals from the plurality of base stations to the mobile station and selects a base station from which the downlink signal shows a preferred signal quality. The mobile station transmits an uplink signal indicating the selected base station among the plurality of base stations for subsequent communications with the mobile station. Each base station processes the uplink signal to identify the selected base station from among the plurality of base stations.
