  • Patent number: 5267274
Abstract: A method of analysis of rock samples taken from the bore of a well being drilled or from the Earth's surface and performed upon the apatite grains contained within the samples. The apatite grains are separated from the surrounding rock, polished to expose internal surfaces, and etched with acid to reveal the presence and characteristics of fission tracks within the apatite to determine the geological characteristics of the apatite. The grains containing the apatite are viewed under an optical microscope or other imaging apparatus and apatite crystals or crystal fragments which contain etched fission tracks are selected for analysis. If selected for analysis, measurements may be taken to determine the size and shape of the etched pits intersecting the apatite grain surface. The measurements are taken using a digitizing apparatus interconnected to a computer and containing a point light source superimposed upon the apatite grains viewed through the microscope.

  • Patent number: 5199753
Abstract: A child resistant latch having a latch operating assembly comprising a latch operating assembly and a striker bar or keeper plate assembly, one of which is supported on a gate and the other of which is to be supported on a gate post. The latch operating assembly comprises a closed box supported a predetermined distance above the striker bar or keeper plate assembly to permit operation only by an adult or tall child. A locking latch member is supported for vertical movement into and out of latching engagement with the striker bar or keeper plate. A guard box surrounds the striker bar or keeper plate when the latch member is in latching position to prevent opening other than by said operating means. A guide tube extends to a point just above the guard box and has a reciprocally movable rod guided for movement therein which interconnects a key-operated, latch operating lever and the latch member for movement in a vertical direction.

  • Patent number: 5184729
Abstract: A storage case and organizing insert for needlecraft material and accessories is disclosed. The organizer and storage case comprises a box-like container together with a replaceable organizer insert removably contained within the container. The removable organizer insert comprises a generally rectangular member constructed of a material which is easily penetrable by sewing needles. The top and bottom surfaces of the organizer insert are overlaid with material which is also easily penetrable by a needle. An organizational grid is provided on the material overlaying each of the top and bottom surfaces of the organizer insert. The organizational grids are provided with various rectangular spaces to serve as guides for locating the threaded needles and further provided with smaller areas for entering identification information such as thread numbers or symbols.

  • Patent number: 5004287
Abstract: A locking device is provided for a removable tailgate on a conventional pickup truck. The tailgate assembly is supported by a pair of hinges located at the bottom of the tailgate for opening movement about a horizontal axis, one of the hinges comprising an elongated pin member and receiver cup, the pin member extending from the truck body into the receiver cup located in the tailgate. An opening is provided in the side wall of the receiver cup to allow the pin member and consequently the tailgate to be removed when the opening is aligned with the narrow axis of the pin member. A cylinder lock and lock bolt is attached to the tailgate, the lock bolt extending through the end wall of the receiver cup.

  • Patent number: 5000260
Abstract: A casing scraper is provided for scraping foreign materials from the inside of pipe casing and other tubular members. The casing scraper is comprised of a central mandrel supporting a plurality of longitudinally and circumferentially extending scraper blades, the collective configuration of the scraper blades comprising a tube structure with the mandrel located at the longitudinal axis of the tube structure. Connecting links attach the mandrel to the plurality of scraper blades. Said connecting links are each pivotally attached to the mandrel and to the scraper blades. An adjustable spring is provided at the base of the mandrel and biased against the underside of the connecting links normally biasing said connecting links at a right angle to the axis of the mandrel, thereby normally positioning the scraper blades at the maximum distance from the mandrel allowed by the length of the connecting links.

  • Patent number: 4946159
Abstract: A martial arts practicing device with reactive limbs comprises a trunk having a padded front trunk section, and a box-like rear trunk section, together with a plurality of reactive limbs which limbs strike at the location of the practitioner of martial arts in reaction to the practitioner striking the front trunk section. The rear trunk section contains a plurality of springs biased against a rigid board member separating the front trunk section from the spring members. Reactive limbs comprise rigid members biased against the board member by spring hinges with flexible limb members attached to the rigid members. The spring hinges together with rigid biasing members cause the rigid limb members to rotate in response to movement of the board member thereby projecting the ends of the connected flexible limb members into a target area immediately in front of the trunk, which target area is the location of the practitioner.

  • Patent number: RE34636
Abstract: Apparatus for filtering contaminants from liquids such as cooking oil is disclosed. A filter assembly comprises an envelope formed of an upper wire mesh filter element and a lower wire mesh filter element joined about their peripheral edges and a porous insert filter member removably contained centrally within the envelope which has a plurality of voids allowing vertical and lateral fluid flow therethrough. The filter assembly is releasably secured in the assembled condition by a fastener which is adapted to be connected to a pump and the fastener has fluid passageways in communication with .Iadd.the lateral flow passages in .Iaddend.the porous insert for drawing fluid through the upper and lower filter elements and said insert. The upper and lower filter elements of the envelope are formed of stainless steel mesh and the porous insert filter member is formed of apertured aluminum plate.
