    Abstract: Compact pore-free silicon carbide moldings are produced by compressing amorphous silicon carbide powder in the absence of sintering assistants at from to C. and under from 100 to 2000 kp/cm .sup.2 to give dense, glassy moldings. In a subsequent stage the resulting glassy moldings are converted into crystalline .alpha.-silicon carbide at from to C.
