Patent number: 3994800Abstract: A process for cracking hydrocarbon feedstocks by contacting such stocks under cracking conditions with a composite catalyst comprising an improved hydrogen exchanged Y-type zeolite component and an amorphous inorganic matrix component. The use of this catalyst yields cracked naphthas of increased olefinic content for the production of lead-free high octane gasoline. Further improvement in the levels of C.sub.3 and C.sub.4 olefins can be realized by incorporating a portion of calcined rare earth exchanged Y-type zeolite into the composite catalyst.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1975Date of Patent: November 30, 1976Assignee: W. R. Grace & Co.Inventors: Roger Jean Lussier, Edwin Wolf Albers, John Storey Magee, Jr.

Patent number: 3985846Abstract: This invention relates to an improvement in the process of preparing porous ceramic articles which are formed by blending a composition containing a polyolefin, a ceramic filler and a plasticizer; shaping the blend; extracting the plasticizer and firing the article to remove the polyolefin. The improvement comprises soaking the extracted article in a water solution of a surfactant prior to firing which results in a substantial reduction in the number of cracked pieces when firing many pieces simultaneously.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1975Date of Patent: October 12, 1976Assignee: W. Patent number: 3983983Abstract: A throw-out lever assembly for use in a clutch mechanism of a motor vehicle and including a support and a fulcrum assembly mounted on the support. A throw-out lever is operably connected to the fulcrum assembly being adapted at one end for engagement with a clutch actuator and at its opposite end for engagement with a throw-out bearing of the clutch assembly. The fulcrum assembly includes a fulcrum member for pivotally engaging the throw-out lever between its ends. Patent number: 3984297Abstract: A curable composition comprising compatible polyene and polythiol in which both the components are derived from a hydantoin glycol. The polyene is typically a reaction product of N,N'-bis(2-hydroxyethyl) dimethylhydantoin, a diisocyanate and an unsaturated alcohol, e.g., allyl alcohol. The polythiol is typically a reaction product of N,N'-bis(2-hydroxyethyl) dimethylhydantoin and a mercapto carboxylic acid, e.g., .beta.-mercaptopropionic acid. Upon exposure to a free radical generator, e.g., actinic radiation, this polyene-polythiol composition cures to solid, insoluble, chemically resistant, cross-linked polythioether products.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1975Date of Patent: October 5, 1976Assignee: W. R. Grace & Co.Inventor: Charles R. Morgan

Patent number: 3959103Abstract: A polar unsaturated polyester is photocured by irradiating (ultraviolet radiation) an admixture of a polythiol, an unsaturated polyester, and a photocuring rate accelerator. The unsaturated polyester is prepared by reacting mono- or polycarboxylic acids with mono- or polyhydric alcohols. The double bonds are furnished by any of these components. At least one of the double bonds is situated internally to the main backbone chain of the polyester. The photocure is achieved by the addition of the sulfhydryl groups of the polythiol to the reactive double bonds of the polyester.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1973Date of Patent: May 25, 1976Assignee: W. Patent number: 3953587Abstract: Certain zeolite materials have been found to be effective zeolite adsorbents-catalysts for the adsorption and conversion of sulfuric compounds to elemental sulfur. These zeolites adsorb hydrogen sulfide and sulfur oxides and promote the reaction of these materials so as to produce sulfur. These useful zeolites are the hydrogen forms of the zeolite materials and sodium exchanged hydrogen zeolites, especially mordenite. These zeolite adsorbents-catalysts are very useful for the removal of small amounts of hydrogen sulfide and sulfurous oxide from effluent streams such as effluent streams from Claus reactors.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1974Date of Patent: April 27, 1976Assignee: W. Patent number: 3949059Abstract: Faujasitic-type crystalline zeolites X and Y are produced. In one embodiment, sodium sulfide is added to the reaction mixture as a source of sodium and as a buffer. The buffering action of the sodium sulfide provides the basicity required to maintain the alumina hydrate component of the reaction mixture in solution but not a basicity whereby zeolite crystallization is retarded. In another embodiment, a nucleating mixture having the formula3-10 Na.sub.2 S: 5-15 Na.sub.2 O: 5-50 SiO.sub.2 : 0.4-4.0 Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 : 50-500 H.sub.2 Ois added to the reaction mixture to promote crystalline zeolite formation.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1973Date of Patent: April 6, 1976Assignee: W. R. Grace & Co.Inventor: Curtis H. Elliott, Jr.

Patent number: 3947482Abstract: High purity synthetic zeolites having open frameworks, such as offretite, uncontaminated with detectable traces of other zeolites, can be synthesized by the hydrothermal reaction of a silica source, alumina source, sodium hydroxide and/or potassium hydroxide in the presence of a zeolite nucleation slurry synthesized from a mixture of a silica source, alumina source, sodium hydroxide and/or potassium hydroxide and an organic template agent. The preferred organic template agents are the quaternary compounds wherein the central element is one from Group 5A of the Periodic Table and various conjugated aromatic compounds. The zeolite synthesis mixture itself does not contain any organic ion template agent. With this organic template agent not being required, the nucleation slurry is used to promote crystallization of the synthesis mixture to the open framework type of zeolite.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1974Date of Patent: March 30, 1976Assignee: W. R. Grace & Co.Inventors: Edwin W. Albers, David E. W. Vaughan
