Patent number: 6044131Abstract: A security system for digital x-ray images is disclosed. In one example system, a direct capture digital x-ray imaging device is used to capture digital x-ray images. The direct capture digital x-ray imaging device then associates an identifier with the image. This identifier identifies the source of the image as being that particular device. In some example systems, the identifier is used to create a digital signature that identifies that particular image as being from that particular device. Some systems optionally include image encryption and/or compression.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1998Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: MedFX SystemsInventors: Steven P. McEvoy, Emilian S. Patent number: 6038558Abstract: One embodiment of the invention includes an architecture for extending the data requesting and data viewing capabilities of a database system. Data from the database is requested and viewed using a plan. The plan defines the steps to perform to request and view the data. The extensible architecture allows for the relatively easy addition of new steps for use in the database retrieval and viewing system. In one system, each step includes executable code for accessing, manipulating and/or outputting data. Each step conforms to a predefined interface that allows the step to be used in a plan, manipulate data received from another step (if necessary), and output data to another step (if necessary). By generating steps that conform to the predefined interface, developers can extend the functionality of the data retrieval and viewing application.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 1997Date of Patent: March 14, 2000Assignee: Sagent Technology, Inc.Inventors: Craig R. Patent number: 6025847Abstract: One embodiment includes a method of generating a 3D model from an image using a computer system. The image is of an arrangement of physical objects. The method comprises the following. Display the image. Create a 3D model primitive to represent at least a portion of a physical object in the image by specifying a set of parameters that correspond to a first set of locations of the primitive on the image. Modify the primitive to make it more closely match the location of the physical object in the image by specifying a second set of locations on the image for the primitive. Display a 2D representation of the primitive, including displaying a difference between the first set of locations and the second set of locations of the primitive on the image. In one embodiment, displaying the difference between the first set of locations and the second set of locations helps a user to see where the user is moving part a primitive from.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1997Date of Patent: February 15, 2000Assignee: Auto Desk, Inc.Inventor: Richard Lee Marks

Patent number: 5994998Abstract: Electrical supply current, sufficient to power a wireless access point, is transmitted concurrently with a network data signal across a transmission line. A power and data coupler couples the network data signal and the power signal, received through a data input and a power input respectively, and transmits the coupled signal, to a distance of three meters or more, over the transmission line to a power and data decoupler. The power and data decoupler separates the power signal from the network data signal and supplies those signals to a power output port and a data output port, respectively, for use by a wireless access node. The power signal may be modulated at a low frequency relative to the frequency of the data signal, and the network data signal has a data transmission rate of one megabit/second or higher.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 1997Date of Patent: November 30, 1999Assignee: 3Com CorporationInventors: David A. Patent number: 5968176Abstract: A system provides for establishing security in a network that include nodes having security functions operating in multiple protocol layers. Multiple network devices, such as remote access equipment, routers, switches, repeaters and network cards having security functions are configured to contribute to implementation of distributed firewall functions in the network. By distributing firewall functionality throughout many layers of the network in a variety of network devices, a pervasive firewall is implemented. The pervasive, multilayer firewall includes a policy definition component that accepts policy data that defines how the firewall should behave. The policy definition component can be a centralized component, or a component that is distributed over the network. The multilayer firewall also includes a collection of network devices that are used to enforce the defined policy.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 1997Date of Patent: October 19, 1999Assignee: 3Com CorporationInventors: Danny M. Patent number: 5966382Abstract: A system comprising the following elements. An ethernet controller circuit for generating ethernet data signals. An isolation circuit coupled to receive the ethernet data signals and for generating ethernet output signals. The ethernet output signals including primarily a first sine wave signal, a second sign wave signal, and a set of signals. The first sine wave signal is at a frequency approximately equal to the frequency of the ethernet data signals. The second sine wave signal is at a frequency approximately one half the frequency of the first sine wave signal. The third set of signals is for transitioning between said first sine wave signal and said second sine wave signal. In this embodiment, the high frequency components of the output signals is significantly reduced, which results in reduced electromagnetic interference from the system.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 1997Date of Patent: October 12, 1999Assignee: 3Com CorporationInventors: Marwan A. Patent number: 5961195Abstract: One embodiment of the invention includes an image display device. The image display device includes a projector for emitting an image, a screen on which the image is projected, and a mirror for reflecting the image from the projector toward the screen. The mirror has a planar surface reflection area and a curved surface reflection area continuous with the planar reflection area. Images projected onto the mirror are reflected with no distortion in one area and distortion in another area. The distorted area fills a portion of a user's peripheral vision. Also, the distorted area allows some embodiments of the invention to provide the user with a greater sense of motion.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1997Date of Patent: October 5, 1999Assignee: Namco Ltd.Inventors: Naotaka Yoshimatsu, Hideki Inoue

Patent number: 5946488Abstract: The present invention makes it possible for computer programmers to selectively examine the effects of preprocessing operations on computer source code. Where a preprocessor construct, such as a macro, appears in the source code, a user may selectively expand the construct to see the effects of expansion. If a macro expands into text which contains other macro calls, the user may selectively expand the other macro calls. The present invention allows the user to go back and forth between unexpanded, partly expanded, and fully expanded constructs in order to obtain a better understanding of the effect of macro expansion on the original source code. The present invention applies to any programming language which supports macros and/or other preprocessing constructs. It also applies to preprocessors that are independent of any programming language, such as the M4 preprocessor. The invention may also be included in another computer program, such as a debugger.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1997Date of Patent: August 31, 1999Assignee: Thnkage Ltd.Inventors: David A. Patent number: 5936537Abstract: A micro-power, micro-size RF detector is suitable for implementation on an integrated circuit. The detector is used for detecting the presence of high frequency AC signals on a transmission line which has a transmission line impedance. An input for connection to the transmission line through a high impedance relative to the transmission line is provided. A current mode detector is coupled to the input. The current mode detector translates AC signals on the input to a bias signal having a DC component determined by power of the AC signal on the transmission line. A current mode amplifier is coupled to the current mode detector, and amplifies the bias signal to produce a detector current. A binary output driver is coupled to the current mode amplifier, which generates a binary signal having one binary level if the detector current exceeds a high signal threshold, and another binary level if the detector current falls below a low signal threshold.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1996Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Assignee: 3Com CorporationInventors: Lawrence M. Patent number: 5802054Abstract: An atomic type switch mesh is combined with standard local area network links, such as high speed Ethernet, and a bridge-like protocol to provide a high performance scalable network switch. The network switch comprises a plurality of switch nodes, a first set of communication links which are coupled between switch nodes internal to the network switch, and a second set of communication links which comprise network links from switch nodes on the border of the network switch to systems external to the network switch. The respective switch nodes include a set of ports (having more than two members) which are connected to respective communication links in either the first or second set of communication links. Each port in the set comprises a medium access control (MAC) logic unit for a connectionless network protocol, preferably high speed Ethernet.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1996Date of Patent: September 1, 1998Assignee: 3Com CorporationInventor: Donald M.
