  • Patent number: 6075078
Abstract: A method for producing a fast drying high solids adhesive wherein a water based polymer emulsion (latex) is modified with unemulsified elasticizing oils and reinforcing-tackifying resins to produce a stable emulsion of polymer, oil and resin without the use of additional emulsifiers or volatile organic solvents. When packaged in pressurizable canisters along with a suitable propellant, the adhesive may be sprayed through a suitable nozzle and deposited in a thin layer to form an adhesive film which has excellent bonding characteristics for many laminates such as fabric or textiles, wood, plastics, metals and rubber, and for adhering flooring materials such as carpet, linoleum, tiles and artificial grass to a variety of substrates.

  • Patent number: 6059624
Abstract: The display screen (11) is made of pixels (P) connected to one edge (11a) of the screen by wires (12) separated by a given pitch (s) so as to be controlled by respective terminals (18) of integrated circuits (16) outside the screen. The terminals (18) of each integrated circuit are disposed in a plurality of parallel rows (19) in which they are separated from one another by a pitch (Sm) equal to several times the pitch of the wires. Each integrated circuit is mounted on a connecting support (10) formed by an insulating film (21) carrying conductive tracks (23) connecting the terminals of the integrated circuit to the corresponding wires of the screen, the tracks extending substantially at the pitch of the wires. The mounting is done simply by collective reflow of bumps between the tracks (23) and the terminals (18), and the support (10) makes it possible to test the integrated circuits before they are mounted on the screen.

  • Patent number: 6042497
Abstract: A mechanical assembly is operable as a variable speed transmission. The output shaft has a rotational force at speeds variable from an input applied to an input shaft. The mechanical assembly is a transmission device using a "positive traction" effect with a differential using a speed control (control shaft or hydraulic device) of relatively small controlling power to control transmission of power from the input shaft to the output shaft. Planetary gearing at a two-to-one ratio is used to convert the speed and direction supplied by the speed control to the output axle. The power input is applied to a differential carrier by a shaft mounted opposite of and collinear to the output axle. This eliminates the ring gear and pinion normally required. The carrier of a planetary gearing is used for speed control and is connected to the control shaft by a one-to-one ratio.

  • Patent number: 6018795
Abstract: For the obtainment of a unique number identifier called a ticket indentifying a task or an event in a multi-node data processing system (SYS), a master node (Ny) for distributing the ticket in the system is designated, and it includes a ticket generator (TICKy:VALy, SESSy, COUNTy) whose address (TICK.sub.-- ID) is stored in a reference register (REF) of each node. When a node (Nx) requests a ticket, it reads the address (TICK.sub.-- ID) in this register and thus accesses the ticket generator of the master node (Ny). A backup or substitute node (Ns) can replace the master node (Ny) in case of a failure (TICK-MISS).

  • Patent number: 6009116
Abstract: An integrated receiver decoder (IRD), commonly called a set-top box, has a global positioning system (GPS) receiver. The GPS receiver checks to see if the IRD is at an authorized location and allows descrambling of video signals only if the location is authorized. A central access control system, remote from the customers/viewers, has a high quality GPS receiver and sends some GPS data in the transmission medium used to send video signals to the customers. The set-top box, referred to as a customer access control, establishes different geographic restrictions on different of various video signals. Location-specific signals require that the set-top box be at a single fixed location for descrambling. Region-specific signals are accessible only if the set-top box is in a geographic region authorized for reception, there being several such regions. Large area signals are accessible anywhere within a large area including the regions.

  • Patent number: 6003589
Abstract: A nozzle for delivering molten metal to a casting pool of a twin roll strip caster is formed in two halves and comprises an upwardly opening trough (61) to receive falling supply streams of molten metal and outlet openings (64) at the bottom of the trough. Nozzle end formations (87) define reservoirs (88) to receive separate supply streams of molten metal and flow passages (95) to direct metal from the reservoirs across pool confining end closures of the caster. Each reservoir (88) is separated from trough (61) by an upstanding wall (70) which functions as a weir for metal in the reservoir such that metal can flow over it into the trough when the reservoir is full.

  • Patent number: 5999557
Abstract: This invention is directed to a method and apparatus for thermal homogenization of molten metal in a heath of a electric arc furnace for steel production. The invention addresses the problem of lack of thermal homogenization by providing a lance which directs oxygen gas downwardly towards the surface of the bath and into the molten metal in a direction that diverges away from a direct line to a central region of the hearth through a horizontal divergence angle in the range of 10.degree. to 50.degree. thereby to enhance movement of the molten metal about the hearth and the direction of the gas is inclined downwardly to strike the nominal horizontal plane of the surface of the bath at an inclined angle in the range of 35.degree. to 50.degree. thereby to minimize splashing of the molten metal.
