  • Patent number: 5950011
Abstract: A system for configuring preconfigured software in networked open systems in a distributed environment, including, in a work station, a design device called a designer (DC), an editor (CE) and a knowledge base (KB), and, in a station to be configured, an interpreter (CI). The designer allows read and write access to the knowledge base which contains the data describing the various elements in the network that can be configured and the links between these various elements, said designer making it possible to define the various configuration capabilities of the editor on which the desired configuration is displayed.

  • Patent number: 5942834
Abstract: An improved thermionic electric converter uses a wire grid cathode to provide a larger surface area for electrons to boil off. Alternately or additionally, the larger electron emission surface area can be achieved by using a curved electron emission surface. A laser provides quantum interference to electrons just before they reach the anode, thereby lowering their energy levels such that they more readily are captured by the anode. The arrangement provides improved conversion efficiency and reduced electron scatter.

  • Patent number: 5931354
Abstract: A method for producing a fast drying high solids adhesive and the adhesive composition are described herein whereby a water based polymer emulsion known as latex is modified with unemulsified plasticizing oils and reinforcing-tackifying resins, and a stable final emulsion of polymer, oil and resin is achieved without the use of additional emulsifiers or volatile organic solvents. The method takes advantage of the inherent solubility of the oils and resins in the polymer and of the emulsion-stabilizing effects of the selected resins, and the resultant product has excellent adhesive characteristics such as fast drying, improved water resistance, improved freeze resistance, high bond strength and no volatile organic compounds.

  • Patent number: 5931911
Abstract: An information processing device IPD implanted in an information processing resource RES which enables dialog between an administration system MAN and the resource RES, by the agency of a standard protocol such as SNMP and through a network such as TCP/IP. The device PID is constituted on the one hand by a selection and dialog manager DIS including a configuration file CF, and on the other by a set of specific agents A1, A2, . . . , An of the protocol SNMP, the protocol which is also used in the device IPD. The manager DIS receives requests form the system MAN and, after reading the file CF, dispatches them, as a function of the object to which they pertain, to one or more of the agents A1, A2, . . . , An and then receives the responses to the requests sent by the appropriate agents and transmits them to the system MAN.

  • Patent number: 5928519
Abstract: A system for separation of fluids and drill cuttings received from a borehole during an under-balanced drilling procedure. The system is designed to cope with significantly varied pressures and flow rates, particularly in relation to gas content of drill fluids returned to the surface during the drilling process in a production zone, and to provide effective separation and to reduce the detrimental effect due to the presence of the drill cuttings in the returned drill fluids. In the present invention there is utilized a first stage, high pressure vessel in which a major portion of the gases ad drill cuttings are separated, and a second stage, horizontal low pressure vessel, preferably of greater volume than the high pressure vessel, in which further separating is achieved, including the separate removal of the drilling liquid to be returned to the drill tube.

  • Patent number: 5917115
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for degassing molten metal in a vacuum treatment chamber defined by a open topped ladle containing the molten metal and a generally cylindrical refractory lined cover having a closed top and an open bottom positioned on the ladle, with a temporary joint formed therebetween, and a vacuum seal sealing the vacuum treatment chamber from the atmosphere. A vacuum offtake is connected to the cover chamber to apply vacuum to the vacuum treatment chamber, and the molten metal is stirred to produce sufficient turbulence and splashing to produce an increased surface area of molten metal exposed to vacuum to accelerate the degassing rate. The offtake outlet is located at a height above the cover chamber open bottom to substantially prevent splashed metal and slag from being carried into the offtake while permitting aggressive stirring to increase treatment rate.

  • Patent number: 5917731
Abstract: The invention relates to a process of detecting check sequences in a situation recognition system, composed of a list of events and time constraints. For each check sequence, a sequence of events and intervals between possible dates of occurrence of each of these events is created in memory. The process manages an internal clock differing from universal time, representing the current date of the system, updates the sequences of events for each situation upon each occurrence of a new event. This causes an updating of the current date, an updating for each sequence of events memorized of the intervals between possible dates of occurrences, detection of all the sequences of events for which one of these intervals is empty, creation of new sequences of events integrating this new event, and a detection of complete sequences.

  • Patent number: 5915847
Abstract: A drain stopper having a lift mechanism or assembly and, optionally, a strainer assembly, is provided wherein a sealing member which may be a stopper plug or a flat disc is coupled to an elongate rod having a pair of legs extending in one direction and a handle extending in an opposite direction. The rod extends transversely across a top of the sealing member, and is coupled to the sealing member in a manner so as to permit rotation thereof. When the rod is rotated to urge the legs downwardly along the sides of the sealing member, the legs will engage the drain and, through lever or camming action, lift the sealing member upwardly from the drain. A strainer assembly includes a member extending downwardly from the underside of the sealing member which holds a screen at a lower extent of the extension member.

  • Patent number: 5915291
Abstract: The protection device according to the invention comprises a primary and a secondary coil facing each other. Current flow through the primary coil induces magnetic fields which repel each other, so that the two coils are jerked apart and a missile is projected towards an approaching projectile. The projecting device is triggered by a sensing device.By offsetting the magnetic fields of the primary and secondary coil, the angle between the direction of acceleration of the missile and the coil plane may be changed, as required.Preferably, the primary coil comprises several offset coil elements, which can be activated separately, in groups or all together, as desired.
