Abstract: Water soluble granules or particles of saldimine-type manganese complexes that are suitable as catalysts in reactions with peroxy compounds are described. The granules are used especially in washing agents. They are distinguished by retarded disssolution of and improved action of the manganese complexes.

Abstract: Compositions which, as well as water, contain certain sulfonate salts or polyhydric alcohols together with ethoxylated/propoxylated alcohols and ethoxylated alcohols are useful for pretreating textile sheet materials. Further ingredients also render them useful for hydrogen peroxide bleaching.
The compositions, which provide the textiles with good primary wettability and good rewettability, are low-foaming. Batchwise pretreatment processes, for example in jet machines, therefore represent no problem.
Abstract: Described are polysiloxane compositions that are obtainable in 2 steps. The first step comprises reacting a linear organopolysiloxane which contains Si—H bonds with a compound that has a terminal C═C double bond and a polyoxyalkylene chain. This reaction is carried out in such a way that Si—H bonds are still present in the resultant product. The second step comprises adding a base or water and an acid to the resultant product. The hydrophilic properties of the resultant polysiloxane compositions can be influenced in a specific manner. The compositions are useful for treating fiber materials, especially textile fabrics. The effects obtained are notable for good durability. Further groups may be incorporated into the polysiloxanes to open up further applications.

Abstract: A method of sizing paper by applying a composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of polymeric particles of particle size up to 1 micron, preferably 80-200 nm, wherein the polymeric particles comprise a water insoluble polymer matrix, preferably formed from styrene and 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, characterized in that an oligomer formed from a monomer blend comprising,
(a) (meth)acrylamide, and
(b) organic mercaptan or an organic sulphone, preferably dodecyl mercaptan or dodecyl sulphone
is located at the surface of the particles. Compositions where the oligomer further comprises an ethylenically unsaturated monomer comprising either a tertiary amine group or a quaternary ammonium group, preferably dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate are novel.
Advantages of the composition when applied to the surface of paper, include improved water resistance, brightness and printability properties of the treated paper.
