Abstract: A cover part for a vehicle, especially an underbody cover, has a porous core layer and at least one cover layer on each side, wherein the porous core layer is constructed such that it has acoustic transparency or an acoustically absorbent effect. Here, the porous core layer is made either from a thermoplastic matrix with embedded reinforcement fibers, especially glass fibers, whose melting point temperature is higher than the melting point temperature of the plastic matrix, or from a foam, which is either open-cell or closed-cell and perforated. The acoustically absorbent porous core layer is occupied on one or both sides with one or more acoustically transparent or absorbent covering layers.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices according to this invention provide drill guides for optimal placement of fixation elements, such as half pins, into a patient's bone. According to one embodiment, a collar frame (202) with a collar adapted (204) to receive a bar (270) of an orthopedic external fixation system such that the collar may be moved linearly or rotationally about the bar is coupled to a guide frame (224) including a bore (232) through which a fixation element (266) of the external fixation system may be inserted. The coupling between the collar frame and the guide frame allows for them to rotate about at least one axis relative to each other. In one embodiment, the collar frame and the guide frame may rotate about three axes relative to each other.

Abstract: A modular humeral prosthesis for replacement of the humeral head of a humerus. The prosthesis generally comprises a stem to be fitted to a resected humerus; a head sized and configured to approximate the humeral head; and an intermediate connecting member for connecting the stem to the head. The intermediate connecting member provides a desired angle of inclination or offset between stem and head. The head may be a traditional humeral head, or it may be an eccentric humeral head, with its mating portion being offset. The head may also comprise a groove or milled trench at least partially surrounding or otherwise defining mating portion. Also disclosed is a modular humeral prosthesis kit comprising a variety of different intermediate connecting members that may be selected to fit the prosthesis to the patient, and a method of replacing a humeral head in a patient.

Abstract: Navigating display data (e.g., large documents) on an electronic display is described in which a first set of visual indicators are layered over the portion of the portion of data displayed on the electronic display. The user selects a particular navigation task, which selection signal is received by the navigation application. The navigation application determines a section of interest based on the particular navigation task selected and layers a second set of visual indicators over the portion of the display data defined by all of the sections other than the section of interest. The navigation application then animates movement of the display data and both sets of visual indicators on the electronic display according to the particular navigation task selected.
Abstract: Methods, systems and devices for preventing prosthetic articulating surfaces from separating from each other. A containment system according to one embodiment seeks to prevent an implant stem head from dislocating from a prosthetic component while providing an increased range of motion over conventional contrained components. In one embodiment, an implant structural member includes a cavity and an opening having a lip, including a web along a portion of the lip. An implant stem head has a cooperating surface that corresponds with the web, so that when the cooperating surface of the implant stem head is aligned with the web, the head may be inserted into the implant structural member. The implant stem head is then rotated and the femoral stem component attached, thereby preventing dislocation of the head.
Abstract: A mounting assembly for mounting an optical member to a panel can comprise a mounting portion configured to contact a top surface of the panel when mounted to the panel and a receiving portion to receive optical hardware such as an optical detector so that a field of view of the optical detector substantially encompasses the top surface of the panel when the mounting assembly is mounted thereto. The assembly can include an attachment member to attach the mounting portion to the panel and to limit axial movement along or about an axis parallel to an edge of the panel when the mounting assembly is mounted to the panel. The body of the mounting portion may also be shaped to limit axial movement, such as by including a lip in contact with edges of the panel and/or a base portion that contacts the top surface of the panel when mounted.
Abstract: Orthopaedic implants, orthopaedic implant sets, and/or methods for making the same. Aspects and embodiments of the present invention may include orthopaedic implants having an elongated insertion region including proximal, distal, and transition portions, wherein at least portions of at least one face each of the proximal and transition portions are defined by spaced apart constant radii of curvature. The same or other aspects and embodiments may include sets of orthopaedic implants in which proximal portions of the implants grow at different rates than distal portions of the implants. The same or other aspects and embodiments may include methods for making implants and/or sets of implants by studying the geometries of differently sized bony anatomies.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a delipidation method employing a solvent system useful for extracting lipids from cancer cells, thereby creating a modified cancer cell particle. Upon delipidation of the cancer cells, a portion of the cancer cell antigens remain intact. These exposed antigens, or epitopes, foster and promote antibody production. The resulting modified cancer cell particle, or portions of the cancer cell, initiate a positive immunogenic response when administered to an animal or human and help to treat, prevent or delay the onset of cancer. The present invention provides autologous and heterologous vaccine compositions comprising the modified cancer cell with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The present invention provides method of administering these vaccines to treat, prevent or delay the onset of cancer.

Abstract: Certain aspects and embodiments of the present invention provide an airbag having a vent that can adaptively release gas from the airbag upon impact with an occupant. The vent may include a membrane and/or diaphragm that can control the amount of gas released from the airbag based on the pressure in the airbag. During a collision, the airbag can be filled with gas and absorb the energy from an occupant causing the pressure in the airbag to increase. The adaptive vent can release gas from the airbag by opening when the occupant impacts the airbag. In some embodiments, the size of the vents changes depending on the pressure existing in the airbag.
