Patent number: 8349418Abstract: It is intended to provide a natural biodegradable material having both properties of biodegradability and mechanical strength; a biodegradable film or container produced from the natural biodegradable material; a binder for producing the biodegradable material; and a method for producing these. A natural polymeric substance which has a cellulose-like property of having hydroxy group which is not present in a petroleum-derived polymeric compound, and which moreover has a polypropylene-like structure is obtained by the steps of using a cereal starch such as Kaoliang starch as a culture raw material, adding a microorganism belonging to the genus Bacillus to the raw material to conduct a culture, and recovering a viscous polymeric substance. A biodegradable material having biodegradability comparable to that of cellulose and also having a mechanical strength property of polypropylene can be obtained by using the natural polymeric substance as a binder and mixing starch and/or shell powder thereto.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 2007Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignee: Seiko SatoInventor: Seiko Sato

Patent number: 8329670Abstract: The object of present invention is to provide a system that can deliver in vivo nucleic acids such as an siRNA for suppressing a target gene expression in vivo more safely and efficiently, and to provide an expression-suppressing agent and a pharmaceutical composition utilizing the system. An introduction substance into chylomiclon, particularly nucleic acids to which an alpha-tocopherol is bound for suppressing a target gene expression, can be delivered more safely and efficiently into hepatic cells in vivo by administering the nucleic aids under the condition where the production of chylomicron is induced in the body. Alternatively, alpha-tocopherol-bound nucleic acids are mixed with extracted chylomiclon, and then they are administered. Consequently, a target gene expression is suppressed, thereby a disease caused by an elevated expression of the target gene can be treated more safely and efficiently.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2010Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: National University Corporation Tokyo Medical and Dental UniversityInventors: Takanori Yokota, Kazutaka Nishina, Hidehiro Mizusawa, Toshinori Unno

Patent number: 8315583Abstract: A noise-reduction system includes a noise-pattern predictor in communication with a noise-canceling module. In a more specific embodiment, the noise-reduction apparatus further includes an input collector in communication with the noise-pattern predictor. The input collector is coupled to a first module, such as a sensor, that provides information to the noise-pattern predictor to facilitate predicting noise in an accompanying signal environment and to provide a first signal in response thereto. In an illustrative embodiment, the first signal includes information indicating when an ignition system of a vehicle will turn on. The first signal further includes information indicating when a second signal transmitted from a cellular base station will affect noise in the signal environment. The second signal may include a burst in a cellular signal.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2008Date of Patent: November 20, 2012Assignee: Quellan, Inc.Inventors: David Anthony Stelliga, Wilhelm Steffen Hahn

Patent number: 8311168Abstract: A Signal Conditioning Filter (SCF) and a Signal Integrity Unit (SIU) address the coupled problem of equalization and noise filtering in order to improve signal fidelity for decoding. Specifically, a received signal can be filtered in a manner to optimize the signal fidelity even in the presence of both significant (large magnitudes of) ISI and noise. The present invention can provide an adaptive method that continuously monitors a signal fidelity measure. Monitoring the fidelity of a multilevel signal can be performed by external means such as by the SIU. A received signal y(t) can be “conditioned” by application of a filter with an electronically adjustable impulse response g(t). A resulting output z(t) can then be interrogated to characterize the quality of the conditioned signal. This fidelity measure q(t) can be used to adjust the filter response to maximize the fidelity measure of the conditioned signal.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 2009Date of Patent: November 13, 2012Assignee: Quellan, Inc.Inventors: Andrew Joo Kim, Vincent Mark Hietala, Sanjay Bajekal
