  • Patent number: 7901185
Abstract: A variable rotor blade mechanism for use in a gas turbine engine comprises a blade rotor, a blade, a harmonic drive system, a stepper motor and a bracket. The blade rotor rotates absolutely about an axial engine centerline during operation of the gas turbine engine. The blade extends radially from the blade rotor and is configured to be adjustable by rotation about a radial axis. The harmonic drive system is mounted to the blade rotor and connected to the blade to rotate the blade about the radial axis. The stepper motor drives the harmonic drive with relative rotational input with respect to the absolute rotation of the blade rotor. The bracket is disposed about the engine centerline and supports the stepper motor stationary with respect to the rotation of blade rotor such that the relative rotational input to the stepper motor is generated.

  • Patent number: 7903596
Abstract: A wireless mesh network routes messages between a host computer and a plurality of field devices. The mesh network is synchronized to a global regular active schedule that defines active periods when messages can be transmitted or received by nodes of the network, and inactive periods when messages cannot be transmitted or received. Based upon messages to be sent by the host computer to selected field devices, the network is controlled to selectively maintain active those nodes required to route messages to the selected field devices. Those required nodes are maintained in an active state as long as communication with the selected field devices continues, while other nodes are allowed to return to a low power inactive state. When communication between the host computer and the selected field devices is no longer required, the entire network is allowed to enter the low power inactive state.

  • Patent number: 7887520
Abstract: A pressure compensating IV rate flow regulator having a housing with a metering port and an outlet. The flow rate is set by adjusting a flexible disk to vary the clearance between metering port and flow passageway. The controlled fluid passes to a land surrounding the outlet. A flexible control membrane having specific design and material characteristics extends across the land and will move or oscillate away or towards the outlet port in response to changes in head pressure, venous back pressure or patient movement. The resulting oscillation of the membrane serves to maintain the flow rate originally set by the clinician. The regulator is provided with safety and operational convenience features such as tactile indicators for “off” and KVO settings and has provision for use with accessory items such as a pole mount holder or anchoring device secured at the forearm or chest.

  • Patent number: 7889710
Abstract: A wireless mesh network is formed by nodes having a regular active schedule for transmitting and receiving messages, and a fast active schedule mode that is locally activated when a demand exists for transmission of a larger number of messages. As each node transmits a message to another node, the transmitting node includes a message buffer queue parameter that indicates the number of messages in the transmitting nodes, pending message queue. The receiving node determines, based upon the message buffer queue parameter received and its own capacity, whether to continue on the regular schedule, or to activate the fast active schedule. If the fast active schedule is activated, the receiving node sends a special acknowledge message back to the sending node, so that both nodes will transmit and receive messages over a fast active schedule link until the message buffer of the sending node has been reduced and the fast active schedule can be deactivated in favor of the regular active schedule.

  • Patent number: 7884581
Abstract: A generator control unit (GCU) provides active damping of a synchronous generator by monitoring the speed of the synchronous generator and detecting oscillations in the monitored speed. The oscillations are indicative of torsional oscillations within the mechanical drivetrain including the synchronous generator or generators. In response to detected oscillations in the monitored speed, the GCU generates a varying set-point value that is used to control the excitation voltage provided to the synchronous generator. Varying the excitation voltage provided to the synchronous generator causes a variation in synchronous generator torque. By selectively varying the torque in the synchronous generator, the GCU provides active damping in the synchronous generator that decreases or dampens the torsional oscillations.
