    Abstract: A device for requesting emergency assistance having a built-in panic button that may be implemented in hardware or software. The device may be in a wearable configuration so that the user in need of emergency help can carry the device on the user's person, or the device may be located at a fixed location accessible by the user. Activation of the panic button by the user results in the device automatically transmitting one or more TCP/IP messages over the Internet to an emergency service center requesting emergency help and identifying the user requesting such help. The emergency service center may also communicate, e.g., via Internet e-mail, with the device (and, hence, with the user) prior to dispatching emergency help. The resources of the Internet may thus be advantageously harnessed to allow users to request emergency help using the device of the present invention.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the recovery of an organic acid from a fermentation broth which comprises drying the fermentation broth to obtain a dried product, adding the dried product to a lower alcohol in the presence of an acid, and then removing the insoluble material to obtain an organic acid. In accordance with the recovery process of the present invention, organic acids of a high purity can be recovered in high yields from the whole fermentation solution containing various impurities with fewer steps as compared with conventional methods. In an embodiment, the fermentation broth is a whole broth containing insolubles including all microbial biomass present after fermentation. The insolubles are not separated until the organic acid is recovered. Prior to recovery, the organic acid may be esterified to the corresponding ester, and the insolubles are removed to recover the ester.

    Abstract: Implants and associated delivery systems for promoting angiogenesis in ischemic tissue are provided. The implants may be delivered percutaneously, thoracically or surgically and are particularly well suited for implantation into the myocardium of the heart. The implants are configured to have a first configuration having a low profile and an expanded, second configuration having a large profile. The implants are delivered to the ischemic tissue location in the first configuration, implanted then expanded to the second configuration. The expanded implants maintain a stress on the surrounding tissue, irritating and slightly injuring the tissue to provoke an injury response that results in angiogenesis. The flow of blood from the surrounding tissue into the implant and pooling of the blood in and around the implant leads to thrombosis and fibrin growth. This healing process leads to angiogenesis in the tissue surrounding the implant.

Thus, the subscriber or caller mobility is not hampered when the called party's line is busy or unanswered. The service-doesn't require the caller/subscriber to reinitiate the call when the called party's line is busy or unanswered.
